Who: Olivia Moore and Stefan Salvatore
When: Early May
Where: Street
What: Random Encounter
Rating/Warnings: Low/None (Vampire plus Zombie equals… what rating?)
Status: Complete
Stefan didn’t normally run around this neighborhood, but since he’d picked up the job working at Dean’s garage, he’d come around these parts more often. There was a guy who kept unusual car parts not far from here, and there was never parking in front of his shop. When Stefan needed to grab something, he’d have to park a block away and walk. Not a big deal, really. It was good they could get their hands on the antique stuff, and didn’t have to pay a premium for it.
He was on his way back to his car, carrying a bag of spark plugs when he smelled something strange. He turned to glance around, wondering what on Earth that could be. Some kind of pollen in the air?
Liv was on a walk. Enjoying the effects of her positivity brain now. The sky seemed bluer, the grass was greener and all those other cliche’s. Maybe this whole zombie thing wouldn’t be so bad. Sure she had to survive on brains but that didn’t mean she didn’t have to kill anyone. Hurt anyone.
As she walked along the street she was behind who seemed familiar. Although Liv couldn’t exactly figure it out. That was until he turned around. Right, he was the vampire corpse. “Hi,” she greeted cheerfully no longer shocked or scared of him.
Stefan raised an eyebrow at the sight of the… mortician? She looked different, though. And he took a step closer to her, smelling the air. Man, was that terrible smell coming from her? How bizarre was that? His forehead wrinkled as he considered. “Hi.” He said, gently. “...you’re out late.”
“Same could be said for you,” Liv replied which normally would be said with sarcasm but not today. “But then I guess you are a creature of the night,” she added her voice low but still cheerful. Not that there was really anyone else around but still she wanted to be cautious. She wouldn’t want what she was being blabbed all over the place.
Stefan’s eyebrow rose at the use of words. This was a very different person than the woman he’d met in the morgue--at least, she seemed to be acting quite a bit differently. She was… happier? But he couldn’t argue with her logic. “That is true.” Then he took another step closer, and winced at the smell. “I have to tell you something, and I don’t want you to take this the wrong way, but… you stink.”
Liv’s eyes widened at his comment. She certainly wasn’t expecting him or anyone to say that. “Really?” she asked sniffing the air but she didn’t smell anything horrible. It just smelt normal. “Well, thank you for telling me,” she added with a half smile. “I guess I better shower when I get home.” Which would be soon now that she knew she smelled bad, even if she couldn’t smell it herself.
“No, I mean…” Stefan felt a little bad having to say this, but someone really should tell her. Then again, he had super senses in his heightened, vampire form. Maybe the normal humans wouldn’t be able to tell? “There’s something wrong about the smell. It’s not just BO.” He wore a concerned expression as he came in a little closer. “Are you sick?” Maybe that would make her stink like this.
Liv’s brow knitted together. What the hell was this guy talking about? She smelt sick? Of course she was technically dead or undead or whatever the correct term was but no one else had mentioned any sort of smell to her and she honestly didn’t smell anything. “You can smell sickness?” she asked curiously. “Is that like a vampire thing?”
“I don’t know,” Stefan said, frowning a bit. His nose was itching a little, and his brain buzzing. “I’ve never been able to smell it before. I’ve never smelled anything like this that I can remember.” He said, folding his arms across his chest.
“Well I’m fine,” Liv assured with a large smile on her face. “Not sick at all. Trust me I’d know if I was.” She was technically a doctor after all. Perhaps the whole zombie thing had a smell. Max had been able to sense a change in her. But still, this whole conversation was just a little odd.
“No no, I have no doubt you would,” Stefan said. He wasn’t finished, though. This was strange. He wondered if there was something magic about her that he could smell. Maybe that was it? Was she some kind of a witch? He’d never smelled that sort of thing in his Dreams, but there were different kind of magic users here. “Has something changed in your Dreams? Something magical? Are you a witch?” He offered. Maybe he could smell that kind of a change.
Well he was on the right track. Still Liv couldn’t help but laugh at his question. Her, a witch? Not even close. She didn’t even think witches existed in her dreams. “Definitely not a witch,” she said shaking her head, grin still on her face. But she didn’t deny that she had changed.
Whatever it was, it made her happy. Stefan wasn’t sure how anything who made someone smell like that would make someone happy, but he was glad that she was happy. It was better to be happy than … not. Actually, the grin on her face was a little infectious. He found himself smirking along with her. “...are you going to make me guess?”
Liv’s smile only widened when she saw the smirk on Stefan’s face. “Yes!” she exclaimed cheerfully. This sounded like a great idea to her. See if she could guess what she was. Which she honestly doubted. It didn’t seem like zombies were a common thing even on that network. It would be fun to see if he could, and a good way to figure out if other people would be able to tell as well. “Go ahead.”
This was… unlike anything Stefan had ever encountered. He took a half step closer to get a good look at the woman’s hair, her eyes, her skin. Then he inhaled, and had to take a step back again. It smelled… like decay. Now that he was getting used to it, it wasn’t that bad. But it was something he couldn’t ignore or deny. He raised an eyebrow, still smirking a little. “...are you some kind of vampire?” He asked.
“Nope,” she said shaking her head and laughing again. She wasn’t sure how he came to that guess considering that’s what he was and the smell seemed to surprise him. “Try again.”
“Is it… sickness? Death? It smells like death.” He paused, racking his brain. “Some kind of… Frankenstein thing?” Now that sounded insulting. He hadn’t meant to be insulting. It was hard for him to believe if it was true, though of course, everything was possible around here.
Well that was slightly closer but still not right. If Liv wasn’t in such a positive mood she may have been insulted by his guess. But she wasn’t, besides she knew she looked different. “Nope, not that either.”
“I really have no idea.” Stefan said, and lifted a hand to run through his Hero Hair. He shook his head, lowering it again. It must be something Dream related, and must be something supernatural, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He did know that she was acting a little differently than he remembered from the last time. “...you look… happy, anyway. Whatever it is.”
“Well,” Liv began. “Since you’re a vampire I guess I can tell you.” She was a bit more open about what she was than in her dreams. Probably because there seemed to be a lot of supernatural people in the area, unlike in her dreams. Sure there were other zombies around but they were their own community, really. “I’m a zombie.”
Both of Stefan’s eyebrows shot up at that. “A… zombie?” He said. Then cleared his throat. “I’ve never met a zombie before. You’re definitely not… the George Romero kind.” This was certainly interesting.
“Nope,” Liv agreed. She was very different that most zombies. Well not the ones in her dreams obviously, but before she started dreaming she had no idea zombies could be like this. “So, that’s probably the smell,” even though she was talking about her apparent odor she was still chipper. “Sorry! I don’t know if I can get rid of it.”
“It’s okay. It’s not… that bad.” It kinda was. But Stefan was pretty sure that no one else would notice. “But… here, if you’re having crazy dreams, and you already know I’m having crazy dreams… If you need to talk about it? We can take each others’ numbers down.” Stefan was running a little late now for his delivery, so they exchanged numbers quickly, then he gave her a little wave. “Don’t hesitate to call or text.”
“Thanks!” Liv replied maybe a bit too enthusiastically. “I’ll definitely do that,” who knew if she really would or not. Especially once all this positivity wore off. But still the option was nice. “See you later.”
