It pained Itachi to see any of his friends hurt, or in distress. Elena had been there for him more times than he could count, and as it was, he wanted to return the favor. Not because he felt as if he owed her a debt, he did in some way, but simply because she was his friend. His eyes weren't hurting as bad as they normally did, so he took that as a victory for today. His first stop was to pick up pizza, and then sodas for them just in case Elena didn't have anything.

Besides, he was a guest in her home, she was having a rough time of it and he wanted to do something to make her feel better. It wasn't long before he arrived at her place, his car now smelling of cheesey goodness and he made his way to her door. Taking in a deep breath, Itachi knocked, a light smile dancing on the corners of his lips while he waited.

After setting plans with Itachi, Elena had remained in bed a little while longer. Since waking, she’d only left to go to the bathroom and freshen up as painlessly as possible. Her side was tender, the cuts from wood splintering against her fall not nearly as painful as the bite on her neck. The linens of her bed had been tossed aside, bloodstained pajamas trashed, and plasters applied when she’d found the energy to move again.

When she heard the knock at the door, Elena had just thrown on an oversized shirt and some boxes. Moving slowly to the door, one hand cradling her poorly bandaged neck, she opened the door with a warm smile in spite of her condition. It could have been worse, or so Elena would say.

“Hey,” she greeted, stepping aside as quickly as she could. Offering a hand out, she nodded at the pizzas. “Can I help carry something?”

Itachi's brows furrowed in concern when he saw her, eyes trailing down to the bandage on her neck before he looked back up at her. Itachi knew Elena was capable of taking care of herself here, and he also knew that he could help protect her here too. He couldn't help fight against the dreams, however, just like she couldn't help with his either. He shook his head with a slight smile, "Nah, I've got it. You go sit and relax, hm?" Slipping past her, Itachi placed the pizza boxes down on the coffee table, and the sodas down on the floor.

The pizza place had been gracious enough to provide them with plates, but cups were a different story. Itachi wasn't picky and could drink his straight from the can since they were cold, but he wasn't sure if Elena had a preference or not. "Do you want me to go get you a cup? The cans are cold, but I didn't know if you preferred drinking out of a glass or a can."

It was in her nature to try to help people. Waking up with a bite mark and cuts didn’t surprise Elena, it only made her second guess her own ability to be of any use to her friends in dire circumstances. Vicki had thrown her around like a rag doll and she was still feeling it. That he was looking after her gave Elena a sense of relief that showed in the way she smiled and seemed to somehow relax that much more.

“Okay,” she nodded, not about to protest. Plopping down with a faint wince on the couch, she slid to the edge of the seat and reached out to take a peek inside the box. This was really going to hit the spot.

“I don’t mind the can, but if you want a glass you’re more than welcome to grab one. There’s some clean ones on the dishrack by the sink. Mi casa is tu casa,” Elena finished with a half-grin. “Bad Spanish and all.”

Chuckling Itachi sat down on the cushion beside of Elena and shook his head. "I'm good. The can doesn't bother me either." Itachi wasn't terribly picky when it came to food, or drink really. He'd learned that as a college student one could never be too picky period.

Leaning forward, Itachi opened one of the pizza boxes and then grabbed a plate. He picked up two pieces of pizza, placing them onto the plate before handing it off to Elena. "So, what are we going to watch?" He asked, casting a curious glance over her way. "I'm fine with whatever might help." He watched movies when he had the time, or it was something that he really wanted to see. Even then, it was typically on some sort of streaming site since he didn't actually have cable at his place. He figured that it was unnecessary at this point, since nearly everything was available online at this point.

“Yeah?” Elena bit into a slice of pizza, grinning all the while. Swallowing down a piece, she bumped her shoulder against his. Discarding her piece onto a plate for the moment, Elena ambled back up to her feet to seek the remote. “You should be careful, you know. I could put on ‘Pretty Woman’ and make you endure all the girly feels.”

The food would help bring back her strength, but in the meanwhile she was moving slower than normal. She’d need to go shopping for new sheets when she did, Elena had a hunch it wouldn’t be the first time she awoke injured and stain the bedding with her own blood.

Lowering herself to the floor, she slid open the DVD shelf and thumbed through the selection until she came to the one she wanted. A few button clicks later and the film was situated for playing. Plopping down by him again, Elena’s mischievous grin softened.

“I wouldn’t do that to you though, ‘Die Hard’ sound okay?”

Chuckling, Itachi shrugged his shoulders. "If that would make you feel better? That'd be fine with me. Besides," he watched Elena as she moved, "'Pretty Woman' isn't as bad as some of the other romance movies out there." He'd seen worse romance movies, and that was only because there was nothing else on TV to watch.

Taking a bite of pizza, Itachi chewed slowly as he waited on Elena to put a movie in. He glanced over at Elena as she plopped down beside him. "That's fine. It's been awhile since I've seen it." It was a movie that he enjoyed however, so it was nice to see it again.

He focused on the television while he ate a slice of pizza. After a few moments he looked back over at Elena again. "Once we've finished eating do you want me to re-bandage your neck for you?"

Looking at him almost in surprise by the sentiment, Elena wondered if she had enough blood in her system to strike a blush. He was a good friend, and the last person to look after her like this had all but betrayed her. It felt good to experience that again, even if it was something as seemingly mundane as watching a movie. She liked feeling normal.

“It’s a classic,” she joked.

Curling her legs beneath her, she didn’t turn her attention toward the movie. Instead she leaned her head into her hand to relax comfortably as they chatted. With a tiny wince, she poked the bandage she’d applied as best she could without tangling her hair in it.

“Might be a good idea,” Elena agreed. “Vampire bites are awfully messy. Have you ever woken up hurt from your dreams?”

Another light laugh passed Itachi's lips, "It is." There were a lot of classic lines from either movie, and it seemed like, to him anyway, that the older movies were better than a lot of the newer ones.

"I could imagine." He wondered for a moment if it was possible to bleed out from one. He had no idea if the vampires from her dreams were able to seal the wounds like some were able to in books he'd read. It was a scary thought though, the idea that one could die from the dreams if there was bleed over. Shaking his head, Itachi reached forward to grab a napkin and put his plate down. "No, well…" he let out a long breath, "my eyesight isn't what it used to be."

He'd not really admitted that to anyone. "Some days it's better than others, like today is a good day, but my eyes hurt constantly. It's from overuse of the Mangekyō Sharingan in my dreams. Every time I have one I wake up and my vision is really blurry for a few days." Itachi wasn't sure what was going to happen, although he knew that it was quite possible that he would go blind. There were other days that he felt worse than others too, and that was possibly a result from the illness he had in his dreams.

Then there was the fact that he would eventually fight Sasuke in them. He knew that day was coming, and he wasn't looking forward to those dreams. "Alright, let me go wash my hands and I'm going to assume that there's other bandages in your bathroom?" He hadn't meant for that to sound like a question, but it had anyway. He got up, and went to the bathroom.

After washing his hands, Itachi gathered up a few things that he would need to re-bandage her neck for her. Going back into the living room, Itachi sat back down beside her. "Alright, let me see."

Knowing someone had been suffering silently was her Achilles’ heel. Realizing what he’d been dealing with on his own washed concern over Elena’s face. It didn’t matter that her side and neck were still throbbing from foolishly tangling with a vampire Vicki in her dreams, she only cared that he’d been dealing with pain in such a delicate place. She was a carer, Elena couldn’t help it.

She settled a hand on his shoulder as he explained the condition. Wondering briefly if his training her was an added hardship on him, she had to stop herself from going down the guilt spiral. Elena trusted Itachi, in fact she trusted him the more than she thought she’d ever trust someone else outside of her circle of friends.

When he got up, Elena nodded as her free hand slipped off his forearm. “Yep, what little I have left is there.” She’d a poor excuse of a first aid kit, which was why she’d told Damon she’d be investing in a new one.

Shifting her hair aside as Itachi sat back down, Elena gently peeled the bandage off with a minimal wince. Crunching it in her hand, she tried to put on a brave face as the air hit the puncture wounds. There were tears around them, Vicki hadn’t bitten kindly into her neck, the assault had been rough even as Stefan had saved her. She was constantly being saved.

“I’m sorry about your eyes,” she said quietly, attempting to distract herself from the tiny bolts of pain and to show him that she was able to handle this. “There’s nothing that helps relieve the pain?”

The gentle hand Elena placed on his arm hadn't gone unnoticed. He hadn't meant to make her feel bad for him. It was what it was, and there was nothing anyone could do for him. Yet, he appreciated the comfort she gave him all the same.

He winced at the sight of the bite marks, brows furrowing in concern. It did indeed look rather rough, and painful. He picked up an alcohol wipe he'd found in the first aide kit, and lifted a shoulder. "Cold compresses sometimes work. I normally do fall asleep with one over my eyes." Itachi turned toward Elena, gently cleaning around the edges of the bite marks and then over them as well.

"Don't worry about me though, hm?" He glanced over at her, catching her eyes with a soft smile. "I'll be alright. Eventually the dreams will end, and hopefully no other side effects will come from them." Itachi could hope at the very least, but of course, there was no telling what exactly might happen with any of his subsequent dreams.

Placing the alcohol wipe down, he picked up the small tube of antibiotic ointment and then a new sterile large bandage. "Found this one, I think it'll do better than using gauze." Opening up the bandage, he put some of the ointment onto the center of it. His fingers brushed gently above the edge of the bite, making sure that no stray strands of her hair were in the way before he placed it down carefully.

"There. That should do it for now. I can grab a few things for you, if you want, this evening and bring them over tomorrow." Itachi didn't mind helping Elena out, goodness knew she'd help him if he asked for it.

Putting on a brave face, Elena’s expression remained as even as possible. She didn’t want to cause him more concern, not when she knew he had been dealing with pain of his own silently. She wished there was something that she could do. Just like Stefan and Damon, Itachi had taken up the mantle of looking out for her and didn’t want to rattle nerves any further.

“I can’t help it,” she responded with a faint shrug so as not to disrupt his efforts. “I care too much. I hope it will be okay though, I really do.”

Sometimes she needed someone to be there for her like this, Elena tried to be tough all the time, but it wasn’t that easy. She’d lost her parents, her sister had betrayed her and didn’t care, and the man she loved had blamed her, in part, for his role in the betrayal. Leaving the country to sort out her head had only made things worse. At best, she’d been there for her friends, but she’d shut them out, hadn’t she? She had no intention of telling any of them about the injuries that came out of the dream. They all had enough to deal with.

Maybe she really was the problem.

Flinching as she smoothed her back over the new bandage, she attempted to smile and nodded at his question. “Yeah, that’d be great. Knowing me, I’ll forget and when this in all likelihood happens again from my dreams I’ll be in bigger trouble. Thank you again.”

"It will be. The dreams eventually do end, and I'm pretty tough." He gave her a wink a light smile tugging up one corner of his mouth. Itachi wasn't the most powerful nin out there, but he wasn't one to be trifled with in his dreams. Itachi honestly believed that Sasuke would be the one to take him out.

His little brother was so full of hate for him.

"Hopefully that won't happen again." Itachi replied, moving back to gather up what little bit of garbage he'd made by changing the bandage. He hoped that she wouldn't have to suffer through another bite like that one, or anything else for that matter. Elena was a good person, sweet and kind and she didn't deserve to be hurting like that.

"You're welcome, anytime I can do anything to help? Let me know." Itachi meant the sincere words that passed his lips. He would be there for her whenever she needed someone, even if it was just to eat pizza and watch movies.
