We sneak into the walker
Who: Laura and Rapunzel
What: good old fashioned star wars shenanigans like commandeering a Walker
When: Revenge of the Fifth
Status: complete
Rating: PG-13
Laura had been exercising non-lethal combat on the Stormtroopers. Sure, they were actively trying to kill her but her dreams had made her want to be a different kind of Wolverine. Not a pacifist, but one less likely to jump right to stab stab dead.
That didn’t mean that the Troopers had it easy from her.
She didn’t sleep much, waking early on the second day and keeping an eye out while Rapunzel slept.
Finding the droid had been the highlight of Rapunzel’s day because they had become friends, but she also was trying to figure out how to protect herself. Her frying pan had come in quite handy when she went out with Laura at some point and they were able to take a handful of them down. But she was more than happy to let Laura do the majority of the fighting since that’s what she was skilled at.
When she finally did wake up the next morning she heard warbles from the droid at the end of the room and looked around for Laura, “Hey, is it still crazy out there?”
“I think it’s getting worse.” Laura stepped back from the window. She was a little tired but she’d done worse on less sleep. “I’m going to suit up. There’s a battle in the sky and they have some kind of walking tank.” She popped her claws. “I want to see if future armor can withstand these.”
“Oh no….” Rapunzel frowned at that news from Laura. That wasn’t a good thing that it was getting worse and it would be heard for them to fix anything if it was going to just be nuts, “Do you want some help? I know I can’t do a lot, but at least I can watch your back. I don’t want you getting hurt out there.”
“I trust you to watch my back.” she couldn’t always keep Rapunzel protected. It would require basically keeping her locked away, which wasn’t something Laura ever wanted for her girlfriend. “But you have to be careful. I don’t think you want to see what happens if you get hurt.”
If Laura ever tried to lock her up there would be words and fighting. It would be too much like her dreams and she couldn’t handle having something like that happen here. She got out of the bed and started to go through her clothes to find something that might protect her a little better, “And of course I’ll be careful. I’ll hide mostly if I have to, but I can take some of them down if needed.”
“I would be very sad.” Laura pulled on the blue and yellow spandex, and then pulled the mask over her head. It was a silly thing, but it was important to her, and with every dream it became more and more important. She waited for Rapunzel to dress, then led her outside. Overhead, fighters zipped around, many entangled in acrobatic displays as they tried to blow each other out of the sky.
Rapunzel wouldn’t admit it, but she had a love/hate relationship with that suit. It kept her girlfriend safe and she knew it was important, but it still scared her a little bit because it meant she was going out to risk her life. No one was completely unbreakable and she didn’t want to see Laura ever find out how she could be breakable. But as long as she could tag along and try to protect her then she felt better about it. She got dressed in a simple outfit of skinny jeans and a t-shirt and grabbed her frying pan as they made their way outside. Her eyes went wide as she watched the show in the sky, “Woah.”
The suit was basically a special kind of spandex with advanced nanites that kept it temperature regulated (and partly fireproof), but the real protection was Laura’s powers. She thought she should replicate one for her girlfriend. A more Rapunzel like design, of course.
It looked like a war, and Laura led them towards the sound of a ground battle. There were things stomping around, and they had to be stopped. She peeked around a corner to see a squad of troopers inspecting a building, and a tall, bipedal vehicle standing guard.
Having her own suit that like would be incredibly helpful, especially if she wanted to get out and help Laura with things more often. School was almost over for the semester, so she would be more available when weird things happened in the OC.
“What’s the plan?” Rapunzel spoke softly as she tried to stay close to her girlfriend and not get spotted by any of the troopers. She bit her bottom lip as she peeked behind her girlfriend and saw the giant vehicle, “Oh man, that thing's huge!”
Laura studied it, then studies the array of troopers it was with. They could take them all out, but it would take a long time and with that tank there was a chance Rapunzel could be killed or Laura knocked out of commission long enough for bad things to happen. And she didn’t want Rapunzel to see her that fucked up. Or on fire.
Even if the Wolverine on fire was a terrifying sight.
“We sneak into the walker,” Laura said. “And then we shoot them with their own weapon.”
Well. That was an interesting plan. She studied the walker for a moment before seeing how it would be smarter to go for that first. It would make things a lot easier and go a lot quicker if they took it over. She didn’t want to risk either of them by trying to take all the troopers out first.
“Alright. Um, I guess I’ll just follow behind you? I can try and smack some of them if possible, but I will let you do all the hard work,” that could totally work, right? She knew Laura was the one that had the actual skills needed for this fight.
“You smash them,” Laura agreed. She checked once to make sure Rapunzel’s hair was braided up, then led her quietly towards the walker. The soldiers hadn’t noticed them and she was inclined to keep it that way. If they could avoid an actual fight then that would be a good thing. Laura didn’t particularly want to kill any of them if she didn’t have to. Wolverine wasn’t a pacifist but she was at least trying to not be a berserker. Reaching the walker, she gestured at Rapunzel. “Get on my back.”
Thank god for Laura checking or else they would have worse things to deal with if her hair got caught in something. She followed along behind Laura and made sure to stay close to her and she really wanted to being caught by a Stormtrooper. “Get on your back?” her eyes went wide in surprise by that comment, but she obliged by grabbing onto Laura and clinging like a monkey.
“You’re light,” she reassured her, before popping all of her claws and using them to scale the walker. It hurt more than she cared to admit, their weight on her claws. Her claws were bone, after all, and attached to her body, even if they were coated in an indestructible metal. She didn’t make any protests though, and pulled them up onto the top of the walker. “I will open the hatch and go in. You follow when I tell you it is safe, okay?”
If Laura had made a comment about it she would have done her best to try and heal her girlfriend. She didn’t like that things were painful for her, but she was amazing that she could do things like this. Getting used to the claws was still a thing, but mainly because she usually forgot they actually existed. “Okay,” Rapunzel was doing her best to not look down because even though she wasn’t afraid of heights thanks to the tower it still freaked her out. She held on tight as she waited for Laura to open the hatch.
Using her claw like a makeshift key, Laura opened the hatch and jumped in. Someone screamed, there was the sound of a fist impacting flesh, and then she popped her head up. “It’s safe, come in.”
Inside, the the pilot was unconscious and Laura settled into his chair. She brought the weapons online after a minute or two of trying to figure out the controls. “I don’t know this language, but we can...guess.”
Hopefully they wouldn’t blow themselves up.
Screams were never good, but she knew it meant that Laura was managing to take care of the situation and she was relieved when Laura’s head popped back up to tell her it was safe and she let out a sigh of relief.
She surveyed the scene when she got in there as happy there was only one person that she had to take down. And she sat down in the seat beside Laura and her brow furrowed as she looked over the controls. “I think that might be the best way. Let’s get it walking and shooting.”
She hadn’t even snikt’d him. She’d merely knocked him out. Laura had hoped that the lack of blood would be appreciated by Rapunzel. “I think this looks like legs.” She pressed the switch, the guns blew up several troopers. The others turned and fired on them. “Those weren’t the legs!!”
It was appreciated, but she was a little distracted by what they were doing at the moment. Her eyes went wide when the guns went instead of the legs and she pushed a couple more buttons. That caused them to move instead as she directed where the guns were aiming and she quickly pressed another and felt the machine shudder underneath them as they stepped forward, “Oh! I got it!”
“Try to watch out for-” There was a big crunching sound, “The ferrari.” Laura winced. “I am sure insurance will cover that.” She aimed and fired, the walker rocking from the force. “We have their attention, now. Turn us left!”
“Shit,” Rapunzel muttered and gave a grimace, “Should we leave a note?” Well, there wasn’t much else she could do as she pushed the levers and managed to get them to move left. It was very slow going and she was incredibly thankful that she didn’t get motion sick because this thing moved like crazy.
“I am not sure how we’d explain it.” She’d leave that up to someone else. The walker wobbled as it walked, and some of the soldiers seemed intent on taking out one of their legs. Laura fired again, content to let Rapunzel attempt to steer them, rather than have her directly responsible for hurting people. Or killing them. “We should clear a path for trapped people.”
Rapunzel was halfway decent at trying to navigate the walker once she figured out what buttons and levers did what. She agreed with Laura’s assessment, “I think that’ll work. Let’s get this wrapped up so we can go home soon.” She would like to do as much as they could and not be trapped in this thing all day. They wouldn’t be able to take all of them out, but at least this area would be clear for quite a while.
“I am craving Chinese,” Laura noted. She gave Rapunzel a look that clearly indicated she was craving something else to snack on too. All the excitement had pushed some of her buttons and she had excess energy that needed to be let out.
“Then we have work to do,” Rapunzel picked up on what Laura was commenting on and was proud of herself for not blushing. Instead she put her focus into clearing a path for people to get out and speed this up so she could take her girlfriend home. This wasn’t how she expected the day to go, but she had to admit it was a lot of fun.
