Where: Local bar
When: Last week
Rating: PG
Status: Complete
Liv had never been much of a pool player but it sounded fun. And there would be drinks involved which was always a plus. Lucky for her the bar served jalapeño margaritas which Liv had grown accustomed to since turning into a zombie. The spicier the better. She was already nursing, standing in front of a table to reserve it when Chloe arrived.
“Hey!” Liv greeted happily hugging her new friend. “I’ve never really played pool before, so try not to laugh,” she commented with a smile that spread across her face. “But I’ve always wanted to learn and it sounds fun!”
Meeting up with Liv had been high on her list of things to do since she and Henry had become an official couple. But she hadn’t been expecting to see a quite so bubbly Liv when she wandered into the bar. “Well, I can tell you that I don’t know all the ins and outs of pool, but I know how to play to have fun,” Chloe gave her a smile. She played a bit of pool in college, but never for money, and she hadn’t been taught all the rules just yet, “You seem like you’re in a super good mood today.”
“We gotta rack ‘em right?” Liv asked referring to the balls. She was pretty sure she had seen that on TV at some point. “I never had much time to play pool with all my studying.” Not that she was complaining. “But it was worth it,” she quickly added with another smile. “Of course I am. Who wouldn’t be on such a beautiful day?” The sun was out, there was no crazy nonsense going on at the moment. How could Liv possibly be in a bad mood. Well there was the whole being a zombie thing, but that wasn’t really as bad as she thought it would be.
“Yep,” she moved to grab the rack and get the balls all set up in the rack, “Make sure you grab a cue. And you must not have gone out partying much in school. I played a few time with my college friends when we went out for drinks.” Yeaaah, Liv was being quite interesting tonight because she wasn’t used to her new friend being this perky. Maybe that was who she was secretly inside, but she had always been friendly, “What else have you been up to?” She grabbed a cue off the wall and brought it over to the table to get ready to begin the game.
“I really only went to the parties at the house.” As in her sorority house. It was a little known fact that Liv had been in a sorority in college. Although it was more for the sisterhood than the parties. In fact she had even been part of a vote that got another girl kicked out for being too wild. Something she always regretted especially after dreaming about Holly’s death. But hey, she was still alive here so that was something! Liv really should reach out to her.
“Got it,” she said setting her drink down on a nearby table and picking up a cue. “I’ll let you go first though,” she added flashing another smile. “Work mostly. Oh but my friend forgave me for cutting his hair when I was in his body!” that was some very good news for Liv. Especially since she wanted to help Leon on cases. “What about you? How are things with the guy you cooked for?”
“Thanks,” Chloe wasn’t that surprised to know that Liv was in a sorority. She was actually in Delta Kappa Alpha at USC, which was a film co-ed fraternity and it had been quite a lot of fun to have people to spend time with if she was too involved her studies because they totally understood what was going on. She wondered what the Greek system was like back where Liv went to college and filed that away to ask her about that later.
She chalked her cue as she got ready to shoot and then laughed when Liv mentioned cutting the hair of the man she had bodyswapped with. “Oh good! I’m so glad he didn’t decide to hate you forever about it. I’m sure it’s an improvement for him, so he really should thank you,” and then Liv mentioned Henry and Chloe had to stop and grin, “And things are really good. We’re officially dating now and he’s just wonderful.” She wanted to do that stupid happy sigh like people did in movies, but she resisted.
“He looks so much better now,” Liv agreed chalking up her own cue. “I didn’t even know he could look that good.” If she didn’t know him better she might even be attracted to him herself. But he was just a coworker who was now hot. Not that he was ugly before, Liv just wasn’t into the whole long hair thing.
“That’s great. I’m so happy for you!” And she was, but then Liv was basically happy about everything these days. Or at least for the past week. “When do I get to meet him?”
It was amazing how much something so simple could make someone look a million times better. There was a reason why makeovers were a thing because sometimes people just didn’t understand that their look wasn’t working anymore. Long hair was okay on some people, but not everyone.
“And thank you. I’m really happy too. And uh, whenever? Let me know when you have some free time and I can talk to him to come up with something. You can always come over and watch movies or something,” Chloe wasn’t the pda type when it came to movies, so Liv wouldn’t have to worry about that kind of thing. She respected the craft too much and she had only been convinced to make out during movies a couple of times in her life.
“I can tell,” Liv agreed with an enthusiastic nod. It was cute really. “Definitely. I’ve kind of been getting sucked into my cases lately.” Well they weren’t technically her cases. They were the detectives. But whatever, most of them kept Liv involved and informed. “But we’ll figure out a time!” she added cheerfully.
“Good, you totally need to get away from work if it’s taking up too much time. I totally know how that goes though - sometimes you aren't’ even thinking about it and bam! Three hours of overtime and it’s like you just blinked,” Chloe had definitely pulled that a few times when she was working on big projects at work or helping get things ready for movie premieres. It also happened to her when she was trying to sit down and write a script. She removed the triangle to rack the balls and then moved to line up her shot. It went smoothly and the balls spread all over the felt.
“Exactly!” She had been like that with studying too. But more so with work. “I also just want to get each murder solved. The world is a way too beautiful place for murder.” Who would want to do such a thing? She watched Chloe break the balls and saw a few go in the pockets. “Good job!” Liv cheered and even clapped her hands.
Wow. Everything Liv was saying and doing was setting off something inside Chloe’s head because this wasn’t how she really was. Something had happened and she wasn’t sure what. It showed on her face though as she looked confused and then leaned against her cue, “Okay….what’s up with you? You haven’t been this perky before. Is this a Dream thing?” It had to be. Someone didn’t just switch personalities in a couple days.
Was she really being that perky? Liv definitely felt happier, like she was seeing everything in a new light. She knew it wasn’t a zombie thing. It had to be the brain she was on. “Something like that,” Liv agreed with a nod. She did eat brains thanks to the dreams. So she wasn’t lying.
“Something like that?” her eyebrow arched as she stepped closer to her friend and spoke in a more hushed tone, “You know you can tell me what’s going on. I don’t want it to be something awful and you feel like you’re all alone.” Although it didn’t seem like she was really capable of being upset about anything at the moment because of whatever was going on right now.
Chloe was right. She wasn’t exactly capable of being upset about anything at the moment. Liv was looking on the bright side of everything, even being a zombie. “Okay so,” she wasn’t totally scared to tell Chloe. Like her Chloe had dreams and they had changed her. It wasn’t like in her dream world where not many knew of the supernatural. “You know how you hear whispers?”
“Yeah….” she wasn’t going to elaborate right now that she had more going on than just hearing whispers. It was Liv’s turn to tell her something important and the whole ghost thing could come later. She leaned in and listened to her friend as she grabbed her beer and took a drink of it. It had to be something big to suddenly switch her personality like that.
Liv lowered her voice not wanting anyone to overhear. Luckily the bar was loud and everyone seemed caught up in their own conversations. “Well.. I’m actually,” she paused. Sure Liv was seeing the bright side of everything, but would Chloe? “A zombie.”
Chloe blinked a couple times as she stared at her friend. A zombie? Well, she didn’t look like the zombies in her Dreams and she wasn’t controlling her in any sense. “Wha -- how? I mean, how are you like normal? Aren’t they supposed to be mindless or something?” At least that’s how it was when you watched tv shows and movies about zombies, but Liv seemed normal except for the pale skin and platinum hair, “How does that make you so perky?”
“I get that a lot,” well so far to every person she told. Which was really just two others. But she got why people thought that. Hell she even thought that before her dreams. But explaining how she was normal that’s where it got tricky. “I won’t go mindless as long as I stay fed.” If she went too long without brains she would turn into a mindless aggressive creature, not wanting anything other than brains. And once that happened there was no going back. She’d seen it in her dreams. “And well i guess I’m perky because that’s how the person’s whose brain I ate was.”
Because of the person’s brain she ate>?! Chloe could only stare in surprise and then there was a pause as she blinked in surprise. Well, that certainly wasn’t what she was expecting to hear and she couldn’t even say that it made sense, but perhaps that was because everyone’s dream had different mythology. “Oh….okay. Um, I guess that’s interesting? So do you take on traits from all the people you, um, nom on?” she felt so strange having this conversation in a bar, but it needed to happen.
Liv watched in anticipation as Chloe processed the information. She could tell Chloe was shocked which it was shocking. But it would probably be worse if Chloe wasn’t already starting to get dream powers herself. “Yup,” Liv replied with an enthusiastic nod. Probably too enthusiastic for the conversation but she couldn’t exactly help it. Especially since Chloe seemed to be taking it well. “I get visions of their lives to. But don’t worry I only nom on the people in the morgue.” As in she didn’t go out and kill anyone.
“Well….that’s good….” Chloe was a little concerned about the potential impact her powers could have on her friend, but she really hoped that they didn’t affect her. It was different dreams and different rules. She reached up to tuck some hair behind her ear with a concerned look on her face, “I just want you to know that I can raise zombies in my dreams. I don’t think that means I’ll have any kind of power over you, but I just wanted to warn you just in case.” She wasn’t even going to attempt to see if she had control over Liv because she had no idea how to even use her powers.
Well that wasn’t what Liv was expecting to hear. It was strange enough having these weird personalities take over her. She didn’t want a person, a friend, to have power over her. But she could tell that Chloe didn’t want that either. “Oh, okay. Well I guess we’ll just have to deal with that if it ever happens,” she said brightly.
It was just weird to have Liv be so perky when they were talking about something like this. Maybe she needed to find someone who was normal next time when she wanted to nom on someone. “Alright, I think we can do that. Alright, it’s your turn to shoot. Let’s forget about this and have some fun tonight,” Chloe gave her friend a smile as she stepped aside to let Liv take her shot.
Liv had no control over the brains she ate or no idea how the personality would affect her. She just needed food, but it would definitely be nice to know what she was getting herself into. “Yes! Fun!” she exclaimed happily. “I got this,” Liv said taking her shot. No more dream talk it was time to just have fun and play pool. That was the reason they were there after all.
