Azula lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. She looked stunned, betrayed, hurt, and a thousand other emotions that all seemed to flow and clash and crash into one another. Mai and Ty Lee had...It couldn't be true, it couldn't but now she could remember why she'd felt so crushed, in her cell. It hadn't just been her defeat, or losing her sanity, it had been losing her only friends.
Her only friends.
Wiping futily at tears, she rolled out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom. She stared at herself, the mess of herself, the monster. Mother
Her mother hadn't even recognized her. She'd stopped in, before returning to London. And her mother hadn't even recognized her.
The scene shifted, and Azula was cutting her hair in front of a different mirror. Badly. She heard her mother's voice.
"What a shame, you always had such beautiful hair."
Azula snarled, "What are you> doing here?"
"I didn't want to miss my own daughter's coronation.”
"Don't pretend to act proud!" Azula shouted, "I know what you really think of me, you think I'm a monster!"
Ursa looked so sad, "I think you're confused. All your life you used fear to control people. Like your friends Mai and Ty Lee."
I loved her! "But what choice do I have?! Trust is for fools. Fear is the only reliable way. Even you fear me."
There was no choice, there never had been a choice, from the moment her father had taken her under his wing.
"No. I love you Azula. I do."
Something unspeakable happened. Tears pricked at Azula's eyes and started to drip down her cheeks, her lip quivering. She threw her brush into the mirror, shattering it. She fell to her knees and started to sob.
In a hotel in London, Azula lay on the bathroom floor, sobbing uncontrollably as the remains of the shattered mirror still crumbled above her.
