Vanessa had been surprised by the positive response she had gotten when she had mentioned offering her tarot services. Obviously this place was a lot more open to the supernatural than she had assumed but then that wasn’t really surprising with the things that tended to happen around the county.
Meeting with Tessa was like catching up with a friend as well as discussing a business proposal and she had picked up a couple of drinks for them to enjoy.
Tessa had become very open minded since her Dreams began. Especially evidenced by her relationship with Jem and Will. From a supernatural point of view she really had no choice but to be open minded. Their entire Dream world was based on supernatural happenings and the real world seemed to follow the same trend. Vanessa was a good friend and she would always try and support friends where she could. If Vanessa needed a place to host events, then she would gladly offer the shop for her to use. Having got them both some sandwiches earlier, she put them out on her desk in the office ready for Vanessa to arrive.
Vanessa entered the bookstore and smiled at Capable as the young woman told her that Tessa was in the office. Knocking she entered, “Hello, I was told to come to the office I hope that’s okay?” she said with a smile.
“Of course, of course,” Tessa smiled brightly at her friend and stood to greet her. “Come in and have a seat!” she gestured to the other seat in her office. “How are you? What have you been doing with yourself?” she asked, retaking her seat and listening to her friend.
“Thank you” Vanessa said, taking the seat Tessa had indicated. “I’m very well thank you. I’ve mostly been wondering what to do with myself since I quit my job if I’m honest” she told her, “How about yourself? The store is still doing well I hope?”
“I’m sorry to hear that. Do you mind my asking what happened with your job? Is that why you were asking for places to host tarot card reading events?” Tessa asked curiously. Turning slightly in her seat, she reached for the small fridge behind her in the corner and took out their sandwiches. She placed them on the table and passed the one she’d bought for Vanessa over to her. “We’re doing very well thank you. We seem to be growing all the time,” she told her happily.
“I was producing a psychic show, all for pretense she had no true abilities and once my own true skills came from the dreams I found I could not stand the hypocrisy any more. And I had lost enthusiasm for it all. It was one evening at Dorian’s that I thought about using my own real abilities to make a living” she explained taking the sandwich gratefully and pushing Tessa’s tea towards her. “I am glad to see you and the store thriving, it always has such a friendly feeling to it”
“I’m sorry to hear that. And perhaps now you can focus on what makes you happy and develop your true talents,” Tessa reflected positively. She laid out a napkin on the desk in front of her and opened her sandwich. She bowed her head slightly at the compliment to her shop and the atmosphere she and the girls worked hard to cultivate. “Speaking of which, how can I help you with your future endeavours?” she smiled happily.
“Thank you, I’m sure I will find much more fulfilment using my gift than I did before” she said, “And to help with that really the most important thing is getting the word out. I’ve had leaflets printed and I just need to let people know what I’m doing. Most of the places I’m reading in have little quiet rooms so that there aren’t any disturbances”
“That sounds perfect for the sort of environment you need,” Tessa agreed, taking a quick sip of her tea. “I’m more than happy to promote for you. Do you have any leaflets with you now?” she asked.
Vanessa nodded, “Yes I’ve been very fortunate” she said, and she had so many people had been open to her trying and they had worked out some good rates for the rooms too. “I do” she smiled wiping her fingers before retrieving the leaflets from her bag and placing them on the desk in front of Tessa.
“Excellent, well I can definitely put these out in the shop for you,” Tessa smiled at her and reached out to take the leaflets. She looked them over and nodded, “Yeah, these will be fine. Is there anything else I can do to help? Have you considered giving workshops or lessons of some kind?”
“Thank you so much Tessa, I truly appreciate that” Vanessa said before giving her head a little shake, “Not really. I’m not sure it’s a subject I could really ‘teach’ much about” though it was an interesting idea.
“Fair enough. Well, if you ever would like to do anything like that just let me know and I’m sure we can fit in a time slot for you here,” Tessa smiled reassuringly. “Now, eat your sandwich and we can move onto our wicked little treat,” she winked at her friend across the desk and tucked into her sandwich.
