Sakura was trying very hard to ignore the latest set of dreams. Or no. Not the dream dreams, but the one that kept leaving her distracted and worried. The one that was a lot like the one about Tokyo Tower only it wasn’t. She wasn’t sure what to make of it, nor did she want to make much about it. Because usually dreams like that were bad and she didn’t want more bad things to happen. Not to mention she’d felt like she was missing something and had been tired more often since she dreamt of telling Yukito her feelings in the dreams.

Then she’d dreamt about meeting Clow Reed, really meeting him because she’d used the Return Card and had realised one very important thing. His house was Eriol’s house. And that was a lot of questions to be answered but she wasn’t getting them, that made sense of the things she’d felt she was missing. So that was one thing that was keeping her from worrying too much about the confusion the non!Dream dreams were causing her.

The other? An English assignment. That was her primary concern, though the realisation about Eriol that morning had her fairly distracted. Not enough to forget that Yukito had said he’d help go over her work to make sure it made sense and that she wasn’t confusing tenses and words that were close but not quite like she still struggled with. Which was why she had gotten a ride to campus with Fujitaka as he had things to work on in his office at the same time.

There was too much to going on, but the teen was beginning to think that was just Orange County and so she went along with it. She was good at that.

Yukito had a little less on his mind, while strange things happened in his dreams the only thing unusual about himself appeared to be his never ending appetite, which wasn’t too strange since he’d always had one in the real world too. He knew that both Sakura and Touya were dealing with much deeper things and honestly did feel somewhat helpless and frustrated that he hardly knew anything.

But here at least he hoped he could do more, even if it was just a listening ear. Helping Sakura with her assignment seemed like a good place to start. Opening the door he smiled at her, “Sakura-chan, come in. How are you?” he asked as he shut the door behind her.

“Hi, Yukito-niisan!” Smiling brightly, Sakura stepped into the dorm and momentarily forgot the things related to the dreams that were distracting her. Until she yawned but she shook it off. She wasn’t falling asleep in class at least, so she was fine. And she had a feeling that the tiredness was going to go away once she had answers from Eriol. The cards were nearly all turned to Sakura Cards as well, so that would also no longer be a drain on her. Absolutely nothing to worry about.

Just like the strange dream with a winged figure and leaves and clouds and the sense of dread.

“Good! You?” Because she was also worried about him. She had sworn to Touya that she would be strong enough to support Yue and Yukito so that they wouldn’t disappear. And it wasn’t like Yue had even shown up. But she was still going to be very observant of that to make sure she got the rest of the cards turned so that it wouldn’t be cause for concern.

“I’m good” he replied with a smile, “Touya is out right now but that means we can concentrate on the work you need to do” He led her into their little living room where he had already laid out tea and biscuits and cleared the table.

That was good. Touya would undoubtedly just tease her and be mean, which in turn would make the whole point of getting help on homework that much more difficult. Besides, she still felt bad about the fact that she probably had made him worry when she had panicked after learning he had known about her magic. No. This was definitely better. So with a nod of determination, the fifteen year old went to where the table was to get everything out. Which wasn’t much as the base essay was already written.

Now it was time to have it gone over and figure out how to make sure it made sense and any changes she might want to make in general. “Thank you again for helping me.” This was said as she handed the paper to Yukito.

“You’re welcome Sakura-chan, I’m glad I can help” Yukito said and he was. He had always gotten along well with the Kinomoto family and thought of Sakura as his sister too. He’d been welcomed and loved and he would always cherish that.

Taking the paper from her he began to read, everything was fine at first but then he read the line ‘the final judgement’ and it stuck in his head, it seemed as though the world receded and time froze. Yukito felt like he had fallen into a deep sleep and he couldn’t stop everything from going black.

At that moment his body began to glow, a bright light emanating from him as the paper slipped from his fingers and he was lifted from his seat the light getting brighter and brighter until it as suddenly gone and where Yukito had been there stood an imposing figure, arms crossed and eyes cold and hard with large wings coming from his back.

While Yukito read, Sakura had taken the opportunity to have a biscuit as there really wasn’t much else for her to do at the moment. At least until she noticed him go completely still.

“Ano, Yukito-niisan?” Worried, she got up to see if he was okay only for him to start glowing and then… Yue. Jumping backwards, Sakura tripped over her chair because one, it was always unsettling to see him just change in the dreams. Two, it meant Yue was awake and he was kind of scary at first which… oh. This was bad.

And it started to make the dreams she’d been trying to not worry about fall into place. The reason it felt so similar even though the flashes of location were different. And she had no idea what to do. She didn’t want to fight him, she couldn’t because she knew that Yukito was still there. But Yue.

Maybe he wouldn’t be so grumpy here. Yeah. That was it. It would be perfectly fine. Even if she was keeping a worried gaze on him. Like always, Sakura had the cards with her and most of them had already been turned into Sakura cards, but there were still eight that were Clow Cards and well… no. She wasn’t going to think that way. It was going to be fine.

Yue looked around in confusion, his wings unfolding and knocking things over as he turned to take in the room. It was cramped and full of strange things. But he had no time to focus on that, the girl in front of him had the cards. Some of them anyway, the others felt strange. Clow Reed’s power didn’t pulse from them as it should. It was odd.

“I am Yue, the judge. Are you the one Keroberos has chosen as the potential new master of the cards?” he asked, looking at her with his hard cold gaze.

So much for hoping for the best. Cringing as his wings knocked things over, Sakura bit her lower lip, waiting to see just what Yue would say. He clearly didn’t recognise her, which meant that he was undoubtedly from when he first showed up. No, this was not happening. She refused to believe that this was happening.

And even though she was used to him in the dreams (mostly) and considered him a friend, he was still really intimidating, especially right now. So all she could do was nod meekly at the question, clutching her Star Wand necklace.

He frowned slightly at the necklace, but did not let it distract him. He had to do as he what he had been charged with, he needed to ensure the cards and their guardians were in the hands of someone worthy.

“Then let the final judgement begin” curling his wings around them both, uncaring of the wreckage they were leaving the room in, he transported them both to an open field. The university playing field which was thankfully empty but to Yue it was simply the ground on which the judgement was to take place.

“Defeat me, if you can” he told her.

Why was this happening?!

“Please, Yue-san, I don’t want to fight you!”

It was a desperate move, one she knew in the back of her mind wouldn’t work. She remembered this. She remembered her failing the first time and she didn’t think the bell that allowed them to repeat would exist here this time. She couldn’t condemn all of Orange County to no longer remembering their number one person!

“Yue, enough. She’s already proven herself.” And suddenly, Keroberos was there. Maybe Yue would listen to him? Even so, Sakura was desperately going through the cards in her head to see which ones she hadn’t managed to turn into Sakura cards yet. Yes, she was panicking. This was a good situation for which to panic.

“Still so soft on them Keroberos” Yue said as his brother appeared, “You may have chosen the girl but it is I who will see if she is worthy. Now begin!” he commanded, turning back to Sakura and sending bursts of his magic her way. If she would not fight him then this would be over very soon and the cards would be scattered once more.

Well, he had tried but how to explain to Yue that she’d already gone to the Judgement when he himself didn’t seem to remember? Head bowed, Keroberos stepped aside as he knew interference would mean the cards scattering. He wasn’t happy and was ready just in case, but he also knew the rules.

As for Sakura, she cried out in shock as she braced herself for the attack. She had no choice, she had to fight back. No. Not fight. She was going to defend herself, that was it. Pulling off the necklace, she held it tightly before raising it up.

“O Key that hides the power of the stars, reveal your true power before me. I, Sakura command you under our contract, release!”

About to call forth a card, she watched helplessly as eight of them, the Cloud, the Rain, the Shot, the Fight, the Storm, the Silent, the Light and the Dark, flew to Yue as they were still tied to Clow and not herself. Okay that was okay. She could defend herself with the ones she had. Even if the initial power blast had hurt. She was still standing. She wasn’t going to fail, she refused.

Calling forth the Fly, she was able to keep a hold of her Star Wand should it be needed for other cards, though this would at least help in avoiding attacks.

Yue remembered nothing, certainly not how they had ended up in a field in another country but he didn’t question that. He had to focus on his job which was judging this girl. He was confused when only a handful of cards made their way to him. She had somehow managed to tie to rest to her, but how? She would need to be as powerful as Clow and that was not possible.

Smiling to himself as she used the fly card he spread his wings and joined her in the sky, she would not get away so easily. “Running away will not help you” he told her, releasing magical daggers once again.

Funny story, that. The joys of the strange events in her dreams that were somehow tied to Eriol and the need to change the cards over. But this really wasn’t the time to go into that. Especially since Sakura was trying to avoid getting daggered. One got through and hit her shoulder, knocking the teen to the side though not down.

“Shield!”

She had to remember how… the Wood had been the one she used initially but she’d failed then. Even now, she refused to use a card that would hurt Yue. Especially since she knew the Shield wouldn’t hold out forever and her shoulder really hurt and she was focusing on not letting the blood distract her.

Right. Windy. Technically under Yue’s jurisdiction but it had worked before, Windy had been her first card and was tied to her now. She just had to pray that it would work again. So letting the Shield drop, Sakura grabbed Windy and threw it in the air before releasing its power, letting it race towards Yue to bind him and thus defeat him without hurting him.

When the girl called out Windy, just as in the dreams he didn’t remember, he smiled almost cockily and spoke, “You expect that to work? Windy is under the moon’s...” but then he stopped as he felt the card take hold of him and bind him tightly. He struggled for a moment before realising the fruitless effort, somehow this girl had taken control of a card under his jurisdiction.

He glared at her moodily as Windy brought him to her. It was over, she had won. They both knew it but it didn’t mean Yue had to like it.

Oh thank goodness, it had worked. Because if it hadn’t, Sakura was really worried about what would have happened. Because if he won… Well, it didn’t matter. Because everything had worked out and that was what mattered. And she knew that they would end up friends because they had in the dreams. He just needed to know that it was okay.

Lowering herself to the ground, the Cards she’d lost were returned to the deck (still Clow Cards, but she had faith that soon they would become Sakura Cards as well) and she went over to where Yue was. With a bow to show respect, as she did respect him even if he was really scary sometimes, Sakura straightened up to her full height that was nothing compared to his, pressing a hand to her shoulder to work on stopping the blood flow from her shoulder.

As she did that, Keroberos stood the side, just watching. He was proud of Sakura. He had known she would be able to do it, but that didn’t mean he had to like watching and being powerless to help.

He took his time about it, whether it was to be spiteful or just because it was taking him time to accept it was anyone’s guess but perhaps a little of both.

Finally he said, “I, Yue, judge Sakura to be the new mistress of the cards” brief and to the point but his pride was hurting and he didn’t want to linger much longer. He looked at Keroberos, he had felt his brothers want to help and had to wonder at how soft he had gone out here in the world.

Well, that was Yue for you. Sakura didn’t take the silence or eventual comment to heart. Admittedly, she was pretty good at brushings such things off to begin with. So instead she smiled some before shaking her head.

“I know you care a lot about them and I don’t want to be your master. But we can be friends.”

Because it was Sakura. Of course she would want to be friends instead of someone’s master. She didn’t see the need for that. She was aware of Keroberos’ presence beside her, though for once he seemed content to stay quiet.

Yue allowed one eyebrow to raise looking at the small girl almost in disbelief, he couldn’t deal with this. Yue had no need for friends, he was perfectly fine as he was, taking a deep breath he closed his wings around himself and returned to sleep, allowing the false form to return.

Yukito blinked as he stood there and then looked around, “Sakura-chan, why are we...Oh! You’re hurt, what happened?” he asked in concern when he saw she was bleeding. Kneeling down he stroked her hair, “We should get you inside and call a doctor”

Well… it was a start and about all she was going to get and she knew it. No matter, Sakura would win him over, of this she was certain. Though as Yue decided to return to Yukito, Keroberos took the cue and reverted back to his false form as well. The snow rabbit wouldn’t understand.

Blinking because she was starting to feel weak from the strain of everything, Sakura was about to reply when it seemed Yukito noticed the bleeding. “Nothing. I’m fine. Really.”

Okay, maybe not. But she didn’t want to worry anyone and she also didn’t know how to explain how she had gotten injured in the first place. Because it was clear that Yukito had no memory of what happened. Which meant…. This was going to be very awkward.

“This isn’t nothing Sakura-chan, someone has hurt you. We need to make sure they do not get away with it and more importantly to make sure you are okay. Come on, let’s get inside. We should at least tell Touya, you know how he worries” Yukito wrapped an arm around Sakura’s waist so he could help her back to their building.

“It won’t happen again.” Because that was obviously so reassuring. But Sakura had no idea on how to tell Yukito what had happened, or even if she could. “He’ll just worry, it’s nothing.” How many times could she repeat that? Because if Touya knew, then her dad would know, and then… she was getting a headache thinking about it. Which meant she wasn’t thinking about the state of the dormroom.

“I’m okay.” Keep repeating it, maybe he’d believe it. Hopefully. Even if she did need to lean on him some as the adrenaline was wearing off.

“Sakura-chan, do you know who did this to you?” he asked, because how else could she be so sure it wouldn’t happen again. “You know he will be upset if we don’t tell him” he added because she knew as well as he did that they couldn’t keep it from Touya.

“You will be, once I check you over” he said as he helped her inside.

This was really hard to explain and she really didn’t want to explain it. And she knew Touya would push for information as well. And how was she supposed to tell him that the person inhabiting Yukito was the one who did this? She couldn’t put him in that position!

“Hai…”

The comment was mumbled even though she was still refusing to say what had happened, her head bowed. She just really didn’t want to say it because it was complicated and she didn’t know how and it would just make everyone upset and she couldn’t do that to them.

“You don’t have to tell me but you should at least tell Touya” he said softly as they entered the dorm building. “He’ll worry so much if you don’t and he only wants to make sure you’re okay”

He gave her a little reassuring smile before pushing open the door to the dorm he and Touya shared. “Oh my” he exclaimed as he took in the state of the place, “What on earth happened in here? Have we been robbed?” he looked around in bewilderment.

Well. Touya at least knew about Yue after she had panicked about the one dream. Not much. But she had a feeling he’d figure it out even if she didn’t say it. Not that she wanted to say it. Not that she wanted to put him in that situation.

But then there was entering the dorm and the state it was in thanks to Yue and his wings.

“I don’t think so…” Because she knew Yue hadn’t stolen anything. But again, information she shouldn’t know. It was hard to tell just by looking. But again, she remembered but Yukito didn’t.

Yukito was going to ask how Sakura knew that but then noticed she was still bleeding and refocused his attention on her. “Come into the bathroom and let’s clean you up a little” he said, sitting her on the toilet lid before grabbing some towels and making her hold it to her injury.

“I’ll get you a tshirt to change into” he said, leaving her for a moment to grab a shirt for her and to text Touya to come home too.

Well, at least she wasn’t asked about that. There was only so much she could try to brush off (and she was failing fairly miserably at that), knowing that they hadn’t been robbed? That would be a lot harder to explain. Mostly. She still didn’t know how to explain this and so Sakura was content to keep her head bowed and stay silent and pray that Touya and Yukito wouldn’t push her.

Doing as told to stop the blood, the teen slid down against the wall and rested her head on her knees as Yukito went to get the t-shirt for her to change into. She was suddenly very tired. She didn’t like feeling like this and she didn’t like lying but what other choice was there?
