Who: Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Nina Pickering
When: First week of May (pre-plot)
Where: Supermarket
What: Random Encounter
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete

Tony was standing in the section of the market between the fresh produce and the flowers. He was looking at the recently refreshed display of apples from Washington State. Now, often times Tony didn’t do his own shopping, but today he was here to pick up some snacks to keep in his office. Fresh fruit, vegetables, that sort of thing. He was trying to eat healthy, and probably should have just hired someone to put together a menu for him, but he thought while he was out, anyway, he might as well stop in and grab some things.

The only problem was that he didn’t know which to get. Was there a difference between apples from Washington State and the ones from Chile? He had no idea.

Nina always did her own shopping and apart from one or two naughty items mostly she was healthy, being a nurse was helpful in that sense. And she exercised well too. She wasn’t skinny but she was healthy and that was the important part.

Moving to the fruit she noticed a man standing there looking confused and then realised who it was, “Tony Stark in a supermarket? Is this the sign of another weird thing about to happen around here?” she said maybe a little cheekily.

Tony turned to glance at the cheeky woman beside him, and a little smirk tugged the corner of his lips. “Tony Stark buying apples. Surely a sign of the apocalypse.” He teased right back. “The only question is… Washington apples, or Chilean apples?” He paused for a beat. “...though he’s not sure if there’s a difference.”

Nina chuckled a little, “I think in that case it may just be where they were grown, sometimes it tells you what the taste is like on the label” she added in case that was helpful. “Mostly I buy the mid range ones but my boyfriend knows way more about it than I do. He’s into plants and everything like that”

“It must be helpful to have someone like that in your life. A botanist or an herbalist or mycologist.” Tony figured maybe he should hire someone like that. Now they were building the garden on the roof, it was probably time to hire someone who was an expert at that sort of thing. Not just a contractor to build it or the gardener to care for it, but someone who studied plants and could give him more information.

“Definitely” Nina nodded, “And I know enough not to kill plants anymore which makes a nice change. I thought I’d never have green fingers but now I’ve discovered it’s just about what you know” and thankfully Gabe knew a lot.

“And a level of patience.” Tony agreed. He didn’t have that level of patience. Running the world took all kinds, though, so he didn’t feel bad about doing his tech part and leaving the farming up to those who knew better what they were doing.

“I think I’m going to go with the Washington apples,” he added after a moment.

“Ah yes, and patience. That is kind of necessary” Nina agreed with a smile, in truth she would be fairly happy with that arrangement too. After all Stark was a big name in technology.

“Good choice, I’m sure they’ll taste good”

“Thanks.” Tony said, breaking into a smile. He stepped forward to pick out a few apples from the pile, and put them into a plastic bag. “...Thanks for the advice. You have a good day?”

“You too” Nina said with a smile and giving a little wave continued on with her shopping.
