Sunday was typically Heather's slow day at the shop, but Monday came in a close second until after three. It was then that everyone started to come in to pick up their orders, place them or pick up meats for their meals for the rest of the week. Heather knew better than to think that the quiet would last at the shop. Early that morning she'd placed her orders with the various farms she dealt with, she'd worked out most of her paperwork from the last week, and she'd taken care of a few customers that had drifted through the doors. It was easy enough work for now, and Heather couldn't imagine doing anything else with her life.
She'd decided to check her e-mail before she headed out front to let her cashier take her lunch. There wasn't really anything out of the ordinary in her inbox, except one e-mail stood out among the rest. It was her 'mother' asking her to come home for a little while, that they missed her and wanted to see her. Heather sent back a quick response, telling her that she'd see what she could manage to do. Heather loved her parents here despite everything, but still all she could hear was them from her dreams anytime she thought of them and it made her feel ill. Pushing back away from her desk, Heather shook her head and tried to push her thoughts toward the more positive end of the spectrum.
The shop was quiet, so Heather sent the cashier on her lunch break and she took up post at the counter. She was straightening out one of the displays in front of the coolers, pulling out old vegetables and replacing them with newer, fresher ones when she heard the chime go off above the door.
"Welcome to Miller's Meats. How can I help you?" She asked as she stood, and turned to look over her shoulder at the customer that'd just entered.
