It had been a while since Elsa and Caroline had caught up, while the other woman was her sister’s friend Elsa got along with her well and she wanted to see how she was doing. Since she was no longer living with Anna it wasn’t as often that she heard about what was going on in her life so she had contacted her to see if she would like to get coffee sometime.
And now she was here at Baxter’s waiting for Caroline to arrive.
Caroline’s life was beyond busy. It was difficult to keep up with her social life sometimes. Especially when you added all the OC weirdness. But today she had set some time aside to have coffee with Elsa. It had been way too long since she had seen Anna’s sister and Caroline got along well with her too. She wanted to keep up their friendship.
When Caroline arrived Elsa was already there. The blonde vampire made a beeline for her. “Hey,” she said as she approached Elsa. “Sorry I’m late, have you been here long?”
“Not long at all please don’t worry about it. I’m notoriously early everywhere” she said with a smile, “How are you? It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other I need to hear everything”
Caroline was usually early too, or right on time. At least she tried to be. Life was hectic lately. “Okay good,” she said with a sigh of relief. She hated keeping people waiting. “Oh my god it really has been forever. I’m sure Anna told you I moved in with Peeta?” Or maybe just that Caroline had moved out of their house. “And we got a hedgehog,” because she was very excited about her little guy. “Other than that just school, work, I got promoted actually, and helping one of my friends out with her business.” Okay maybe that wasn’t a just but still. “What about you? How have you been?”
“She said you moved out but not who with. I’m happy for you though, it’s nice to have someone special to go home to” Elsa smiled, thinking of herself and Kate. “A hedgehog? How unusual. A promotion? Congratulations, your hard work is paying off” There seemed to be a lot going on in Caroline’s life, no wonder the girl was so busy. “I’m well, the company is as busy as it always is and I actually promoted my PA, Gale, to a better position. Good for the company but it means I am now searching for a new assistant”
It was a lot, Caroline knew that. But at least she was somewhat caught up with the Caroline moving out thing. “Right?” she agreed happily. “How long have you and Kate been living together now?” It was still super new for herself and Peeta but she didn’t think she’d ever get tired of it. “Really? That sounds both exciting and stressful.” But good for Gale.
“We lived together for almost a year before getting married so it’ll be two years in August” Elsa said, “And we’re still discovering little things together. It’s nice coming home to the one you love” She smiled and nodded, “It is both. But thankfully Gale is helping me to find a new assistant which eases some of the stress”
Caroline couldn’t believe it had almost been a year since Elsa’s wedding. It seemed like just yesterday Anna had been talking about it nonstop. “Wow, time really flies,” Caroline commented. Especially when you kept super busy. “Is he going to help train them too?” that would make sense after all considering they would be taking over his old job.
It was crazy to think about, time moved faster than anybody really wanted to admit. “It does” she nodded, “Oh yes, as much as he can anyway. I’m sure it will be fine but he was my friend before my employee so I’m going to miss him being around all the time”
“I’m sure he will still be around plenty.” He did still work for Elsa and considering they were friends Caroline didn’t see them stopping communications all together or anything along those lines. “Plus now you can just enjoy the time you do see him even more.”
“Oh he will, I’m making sure we still have lunch dates” she smiled, “And you’re right we can talk without being distracted by work talk”
“See? It will all work out for the best.” But then Caroline was always one for looking on the bright side. “You’ll just have to remember to make time, like with me. Which we have seriously been failing at lately.” Freaking life. Although she didn’t think she was half as close with Elsa as Gale was.
“You’re right of course. Making time sounds impossible sometimes but it is important. Friends are important and worth the effort to see. We do need to get better at that” she agreed. While she and Caroline may not be as close they could certainly have a good friendship with a little more effort.
Caroline was totally up for having a friendship past just talking about Anna or planning things for her. While they could definitely still do that she did want to have more of a friendship with Elsa. “Great,” Caroline said happily. “So when do you want to get coffee again?”
“Next week I have a lot of meetings but maybe the week after?” Elsa suggested, if she pencilled it in early enough then other things would be scheduled around it.
“I can make that work,” Caroline agreed with a nod. Finals was still a month away so even though her schedule was pretty booked with work and classes she wasn’t stuck studying every spare minute. It gave her a bit more flexibility.
“Wonderful, I’m looking forward to making these catch ups more regular” she said with a smile as she sipped her drink.
“Me too,” Caroline agreed. And who knew maybe this would be the start of yet another great friendship.
