Joe's junker was actually not that bad of a car. It survived California streets and freeways just fine, so long as he did not go too far above the speed limit. Back in Bayport Frank would say that traveling an hour one way was more of a day trip than a commute, but he was quickly learning that an hour in L.A. was just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Some people would even call it a short commute, considering it was still in the same metropolis. Add a charming and rather lovely traveling companion to the mix, and the hour between Nancy's place and the pier passed in the blink of an eye.
It was a typical beautiful California day. Just enough clouds in the sky to mitigate the heat, but not enough to scare away the tanning masses at the beach surrounding the pier. This was definitely the kind of weather Frank could get used to. Slipping out of the driver's seat, he studied the wave of people heading toward the entrance. The fair looked to be nearly as packed during the off-season as he had heard it would be during the summer. He was glad he had thought to bring Joe during the week; the man had been grumpy enough already without having to deal with the masses as well.
"I have to hand it to California. They definitely know how to run an amusement park." Frank grinned at his companion. The two had been friends for a long time and Frank had been thrilled at the chance to see Nancy in person again. She was like the Reynolds to the brothers' Kelly and O'Connor; even when they ended up far over their heads on an investigation, she was there to keep them smiling and focused. Speaking of Kelly, that gave him another idea.
Heading over to the passenger's side of the vehicle, Frank playfully offered Nancy his arm. "Shall we?"
