Simon had been nervous all day leading up to his and Isabelle’s date. He was already nervous enough when they hung out normally, but today was different. Today could change everything if he messed things up. He’d already screwed up a little by not having an actual plan when he’d asked Izzy out, but she didn’t seem to mind so at least he had that going for him.
When it came time to pick Izzy up, Simon borrowed the van, which had included hire a bit of good natured ribbing from his friends, then headed over to the Institute. He’d thought about just texting her to tell her he was there, but in the end decided to head up to the door and rang the bell.
Izzy wasn’t nervous but she was excited. She was very much looking forward to spending more time with Simon. She hadn’t exactly dressed up too much but being Izzy she still looked amazing in a simple black dress with killer heels (of course) and a light jacket. Sometimes movie theatres got a little chilly.
Hearing the bell she called out that she would get it, not sure who else was home and opened the door with a smile, “Hi Simon, let me just grab my purse and I’m all yours”
Simon couldn’t help but be grateful that Jace hadn’t been the one to answer the door. Out of all of the Shadowhunters, Jace was the one that Simon knew the least, which was ironic since he was dating his best friend, but Simon was already nervous enough, he didn’t want to have to make small talk with Jace.
When Izzy answered the door, Simon’s eyes widened slightly as he took in her appearance and smiled, “Wow. You look great. Not that you don’t always look great.” That was one thing he could always be sure of when it came to Isabelle; that she would always look great. She even looked great when they would train and she was in workout clothes. His non beating heart sank a little at the thought that they wouldn’t be training any more as a result of the Mark, but at least that didn’t mean that he wouldn’t be seeing her any more.
“Thank you Simon” Izzy beamed at him, “You're looking good yourself” she added as she picked up her purse and took his arm.
“So how have you been? Any problems with the mark?” she asked him, she'd been concerned ever since it appeared.
“Not as good as you though.” Simon had gone with jeans and a t-shirt, but he had pulled an old leather jacket from the back of his closet; one that he hadn’t worn in awhile, but figured it’d be better than a hoodie. His hair was styled so that his fringe covered the Mark on his forehead. “So far I haven’t accidently killed anyone, so there’s that.” Simon said as he led the way back to the van. Reaching the van, Simon unlocked the passenger side and opened the door for Isabelle.
Izzy thought he looked good, the jacket was a nice touch. Made him look more at ease and relaxed. “Well that is most definitely a good thing” she told him with a smile, as she got into the passenger side door. “You’re managing to keep it hidden from your friends okay?” She asked him as he got settled in the drivers seat.
Once she was in the van, Simon closed the door and headed around to the driver’s side and started it up once he was settled, “Yeah, they haven’t seen it yet. I’m not sure how I’m going to explain it if they do end up seeing it.” It was only a matter of time before someone caught a glimpse of it and then there would be lots of questions that he wasn’t really sure how to answer without his friends thinking he was crazy. “How’s the new Baxter’s doing?”
“We’ll think of something” Izzy told him with a smile and a squeeze of his hand before she released him again. “The bakery is going great” she beamed obviously pleased, “We’re super busy, it seems to be just as popular as the original which is nice. Good mixture of customers too”
“Thanks, Izzy. Maybe something will happen to it in the dreams.” Simon smiled back at her, perhaps a little awkwardly then, reluctantly, took his hand out of Isabelle’s and placed it on the wheel and pulled out of the spot in front of the Institute. “That’s good. I’m glad it’s going so well.” Both in and out of the dreams, Simon had been extremely impressed with Isabelle for different reasons, but in both places it was how determined she was to do something. “It sucks that I can’t eat anymore, otherwise I’d be there all the time. I’d be your number one customer.” Simon still went by Baxters, but since he couldn’t actually eat anymore, he usually used the excuse that he was picking up pastries for his roommates.
“Maybe, I do hope so” Izzy said, because it really didn’t seem fair on Simon that he got stuck with being a vampire and the mark too while they all got weapons and awesome skills. “You’re still my number one Simon even if you can’t eat or drink anything there”
Simon pulled the van into the parking lot of the movie theater and turned to smile at Isabelle as he parked, “Well now you’re just going to give me a big ego.” He watched her for a moment before turning off the van, his smile widening a little bit, “Also, don’t tell Clary or Alec, but you’re my number one Shadowhunter.”
Izzy beamed at him, “My lips are sealed” she promised leaning in to press a kiss to his cheek before getting out of the car. As they walked to the theater she took his hand, “I saw the trailer for this movie the other day and it looks ridiculously cute” she admitted as they walked past a big sign for it.
Simon hadn’t expected the kiss to the cheek and Izzy was out of the car before he could respond properly. Getting out of the van, he made sure it was locked then joined her, turning to smile at her as she took his hand, “Yeah, it looks funny. The sloth scene gets me everytime I see the previews.”
Once inside the theater, Simon bought their tickets then gestured towards the concessions, “Want popcorn or anything?” Simon might not have been able to eat anything, but that didn’t mean that Isabelle couldn’t and he didn’t want her to think that she needed to not eat cause of him.
“Oh I know right? And the bunny is so impatient, it’s great” she grinned holding his hand until he needed it back to get the tickets.
“I might grab a drink” she said, she wasn’t too fussed about popcorn but a drink was always good. “If you need one we’ll need to find somewhere private for that” she teased him a little with a smile and a squeeze of his hand.
It took Simon a moment to realize what Izzy meant and he shook his head in response, “I’m good, Izzy. I made sure I was good before I left.” Simon was still dealing with his blood lust, but it was getting easier, the more he was around people, but it was still a challenge every day. “I promise.”
“I believe you but if you ever need anything, I’m here okay?” she told him, she didn’t ever want him to think he couldn’t talk to her. Because he could if he wanted to. They got into line for drinks and snacks and Izzy got herself a diet coke, “Okay ready to go sit in the dark with me?” she winked.
“Thank you, Izzy. I’ll keep that in mind” The last thing Simon could fathom at the moment of course was feeding off Izzy again. He hadn’t fed off a person in the waking world other than Izzy when he’d first turned, because he’d had no other options. However, the thought of biting someone again, especially Izzy, turned his stomach. “I’ve been ready since I woke up this morning.” It was extremely cheesy, but Simon couldn’t stop the words coming out of his mouth.
Izzy could understand that, but as long as he knew that she was there if he needed her then it was good. She laughed happily and took his hand in hers, “Well then let’s not make you wait any longer”
