Amycus checked in on his daughters as he passed their rooms, smiling when he saw them both playing instead of unpacking. He’d known before the boxes even got delivered that he and probably Rebekah, with maybe a little bit of help from Alecto if she wanted but he wasn’t going to ask her, would end up unpacking the girls rooms. That was the drawback to moving with three year olds. But he wouldn’t trade his daughters for anything. He made his way through the house, making a mental note of all the things that still needed to be done before reaching the kitchen.
He stopped in the doorway, leaning against the wall as he watched Rebekah - nanny to his girls and his best friend/practically another sister by this point. He smiled halfway as he watched her trying to set the kitchen up on her own. “I know we agreed this would be your area love but - need some help with the unpacking at least?”

Rebekah knew that she would probably have to go in and properly unpack the girls room. But they had been so insistent and excited about doing it on their own like ‘big girls.’ It had been too cute to say no to and luckily the more important things like their beds were already set up and the clothes all out away. Plus it gave her some time to work on other rooms as well. Like the kitchen. She wanted to actually cook for the family tonight instead of another night of take out.
Looking up when she heard her boss and best friend, she laughed at his comment and nodded a bit. “Help would be fantastic,” she said as she opened another box which turned out to be plates. “How much unpacking have our little monkeys actually done?”
***
“Apparently, Madison is unpacking her dollhouse. They’ll be sleeping in their kitchen and cooking in the bathroom if I saw where she was putting things right as I walked past. Laurel is playing with her bears so...not very much. I’m thinking about calling the office tomorrow to tell them I won’t be in so that we can get their things the rest of the way unpacked.” Amycus said, moving into the kitchen and started pulling the plates out of the box. It was one thing for his room to be half full of boxes while he slowly unpacked - he wasn’t going to let his daughters rooms be that way. “Which cabinet do you want these in?”
***
“You don't have to call in, we can handle the unpacking.” She assured him as she began hanging the various pots and pans on the hooks above the kitchen island. Really by ‘we’ she meant herself while the girls watched Frozen for the billionth time. But they were still little after all and really didn't understand unpacking.
Looking over to see which box Amycus had opened, she pointed to the china cabinet in the dining room. “The nice dishes go over In that cabinet. Platters on the top shelf, plates in the middle and then the cups and bowls on the bottom”
***
“It wouldn’t do any for good for me to argue with you about that would it?” Amycus said, looking over his shoulder as he started putting the china in the cabinet. “Me calling in I mean. I learned from my mum not to argue with a woman about where to put dishes,” he said, shooting her a half smile.
“I was thinking that if we can get everything unpacked this weekend - we might take the girls to Disney? Let them actually get to see the princesses? Ask Alecto if she wants to come along but she might want to have some twin free time. If you’ve got plans though with your family already I’ll understand.”
***
“Typical slacker,” she teased lightly as the worked on unloading the boxes. Thankfully there wasn't too much to do. She'd have to go grocery shopping though. She'd probably do that while the girls took their nap.
At the mention of her family she groaned. In all the craziness she had completely forgotten to message her siblings. She really wasn't all that concerned with her parents. They probably already knew somehow. And her father still wasn't all that thrilled with the fact that she was a nanny.
“I should probably message them.” She mumbled, looking sheepish.
***
Amycus laughed at her teasing comment, letting it just roll off his back. Anyone else calling him that would have just pissed him off but it didn’t bother him with her. “That’s what I have you around for isn’t it?” he teased back.
“At least your brothers so that they don’t think something happened to you.” He said softly. Family relationships could be a little complicated at times and he understand that better than some people might imagine.

“We usually email and talk often. It's just been a bit crazy with the packing and moving.” She admitted. “Kol will give me hell but he’ll forgive me. He's the only one here other than my parents.”
Having finished the box that held all the pans she broke it down before tossing it into the ever growing pile. She would be so happy once everything was done. She was never really a fan of moving. “How's Alecto liking California so far?”
***
“Which is why when I do get to call my parents tonight it will probably be a very very long phone call. I’m sorry that all of this happened so quickly with the move. I didn’t give any of us very much time to make arrangements.” Amycus said honestly, he’d primarily wanted the chance to start over somewhere new for his family. He’d followed the court order, notified his ex-wife through their lawyers that he was moving the girls to another state, offered to work out visitation - which he honestly wasn’t surprised she hadn’t answered him, she hadn’t seen their girls once since the day he’d gotten custody back. At first that had been because he hadn’t wanted her anywhere near them, and he still didn’t, but since the divorce it had been because she’d just never wanted to see them. Or at least she hadn’t acted like she wanted to see them. He sighed and shook his head, trying to force himself out of that line of thinking as he broke down the now empty box. It was better for his girls not to have their mom in their lives, at least right now. They deserved better than she could, or would, give them right now.
He added the box to the pile, moving to open another one and glancing over at her. “Okay...I found the ziplocs. Any clue where you want the stuff like this?” He asked, carrying it over to the counter for her. “I think she’s liking it. She hasn’t said she hated it or me so I’m thinking she likes it here until she says otherwise.”

“The cabinet next to the refrigerator please,” she commented, waving her hand in that general direction. Between the two of them the house should be unpacked in no time at all. Minus a few hiccups from two pint sized tornadoes.
“Well that's good” she laughed as he commented on his own twin. Alecto was a strange woman but he enjoyed the others company. And she made Amycus happy, which was important. She didn't really see the man as her boss anymore. He had quickly become her best friend. “Any thoughts on what you want for dinner?”
***
Amycus broke down the box after emptying it, trying to put the things away neatly so that they could be easily found. And gotten out without causing an avalanche. Or at least that’s what his hope was.
“Anything but pizza. I’m fairly certain the delivery man and I are on a first name basis now.”
***
Rebekah laughed as she broke down the last box, adding it to the large pile to be taken out to the trash. She was in complete agreement with him though. They would be taking a very long break from pizza. Part of her wanted to make something tonight due to the sheer amount of take out they had been eating while living at the hotel. But it had been a long day of unpacking and wrangling two five year olds who were no longer confined to one suite. She really didn’t feel like cooking.
“How about some actual Italian?” She suggested. “A friend of mine has a nice little restaurant nearby that has some really good food. And I’m sure the girls won’t say no to some spaghetti!”
***
Amycus thought about it for a moment and then nodded. “Italian sounds brilliant. You know they won’t say no to spaghetti - I’m fairly certain it’s our little darlings favorite food. And I won’t say no to getting out of this house for a bit. I’m willing to bet you and Alecto are feeling the same way.” He knew he was getting a little stir crazy. “Think your friend would mind us just dropping around with the girls no warning?” His daughters could be a little loud and rambunctious and difficult to deal with in restaurants sometimes and he didn’t know if this was a family place or not.
***
“He won’t mind. It’s not a reservations only type restaurant.” She assured him as she looked around the finished kitchen. Knowing herself, she would probably end up rearranging things a few more times before being completely happy with it. But at least everything was unpacked and it was another room done. “You should call Alecto and see if she would like to join us.”
***
“I’ll text her. What’s the name of the place?” He asked her. “And am I dressed alright? I don’t want to make a bad impression on your friend.”
***
“You look fine love” She assured him as she shook her head with a smile. It was adorable that he wanted to look decent when meeting her friend. “I promise he won’t think you’re a transient hobo or anything like that. Now go wash up and I’ll get the girls ready!”
***
Amycus kissed her cheek as he went past, heading to his room to wash up so they could go out to dinner, shaving as he waited for a reply from Alecto. He wouldn’t be surprised either way. He went back downstairs smiling when he saw the girls waiting with Rebekah. “I don’t think Alecto’s going to be joining us love. I haven’t heard back from her yet.” He wasn’t really expecting to hear him back from her but it would be fun anyway. “I’ll drive.” He said smiling at her as they headed out the door.
