Who: Kate Bishop and Chuck Bass When: Recently - last week or so Where: Victrola What: Turning in paperwork Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Kate wasn’t technically on duty when she’d cracked that guy’s tooth, but she’d done it on premises. Sort of. She’d done it in the parking lot. And the police were called, which made a bit of a mess, though it wasn’t that bad. Actually, some of the regular customers had seen it go down, and they’d spoken with some other customers… and now there was more business during Kate’s shifts. The fact that she’d defended herself against some drunk, would-be molester made her a bit of a spectacle. And not in a bad way. More guys came by and bought more drinks from Kate, leaving more tips for both her and the dancers. She’d been asked about the encounter on more than a few occasions, but had replied with the “no comment” line that her lawyer suggested she use.
Now she was just turning in paperwork regarding the incident to her boss. She knocked on the office door, having seen Chuck wander in there a little while ago.
Chuck was attempting to take a step back from the club. He had a million other things going on and Pam had everything covered. But no matter how many businesses or hotels Chuck acquired Victrola would always be his baby. It had been a passion of his since he was a teenager and now that it was a reality it was difficult to let go of the reigns. Not to mention that it was a place he went to for pleasure as well. While Pam handled most everything now there were still a few areas where Chuck was in charge. Like the auditions for dancers (mostly because he enjoyed it), but also this situation with Kate.
He had heard about it when it happened. Apparently it made business better. But Chuck had mixed emotions on the whole situation. They needed better security if this asshole had gotten in and then followed Kate out to her car. Still his employees should not be injuring customers in anyway, at least not near the premises. What they did in their free time away from Victrola was none of his business.
“Come in,” Chuck said flatly looking up from his paperwork, a glass of scotch on his desk.
Kate pushed the door open and stepped into the office. She had the paperwork in a manila folder, all organized, stapled, paper clipped, whatever. Photos from after the incident, the police report, the security camera stills from the incident. A part of Kate suspected that she might lose her job over this. She couldn’t hold it against him if that was the case.
“Hey, Boss,” she said, and crossed to the desk to hold out the folder to him. She was a little nervous. She didn’t want to lose this job. She liked it here. “I was told you needed copies of all this for your insurance company, or something.”
“Yes,” Chuck replied taking the folder from her. He motioned for her to have a seat as he flipped through the paperwork taking a sip of his scotch. “You do know we have security that can take care of these situations for you.” He did want his employees safe and wasn’t a fan of sloppy drunks at his club, still Kate needed to be reprimanded for her actions.
Kate moved to sit in the chair. This was it. This was the moment where he was going to let her go. She knew it. She just wondered how long it was going to take, how much it was going to hurt. She’d been fired before, but she’d never cared as much about the other jobs as she cared about this one.
“I know.” She said, sliding slowly into the seat.
She wasn’t going to lose her job. This was more of a warning, next time though things would be different. “Next time I expect you to let security do their job,” Chuck said sternly before sighing. “But for now I’m going to have to suspend you for a week.”
That definitely wasn’t what Kate was expecting. She glanced up, her eyes falling on his face. “You’re suspending me for a week?” She asked, more startled than anything else. While she’d been waiting for a firing, all she was getting was a reprimand? If she understood correctly, she was keeping her job. That was a relief she was trying to suppress in case she was wrong.
“Yes,” Chuck confirmed. “Without pay,” he added. Yeah he could more than afford to suspend her with pay but she needed to learn that she couldn’t just go around punching customers. “I’m trusting there won’t be a next time.” Because if there was she’d have to deal with more than a suspension.
“No.” Kate said, shaking her head. “There definitely won’t be a next time.” She straightened her skirt to give her hands something to do, incredibly thankful that she wasn’t being fired. “...I’ll just… go home then.” She assumed her unpaid leave was starting immediately.
“Good,” was all Chuck said then he was back to his. His way of dismissing Kate. She’d have her new schedule in a week and that would be that.
