Elizabeth had hurried to finish marking her papers and get out of the house when she received Remy’s message. New eyes were definitely disconcerting and deserved much needed attention. Grabbing her purse, phone and car keys, she quickly headed out the front door and to Remy’s place, via a Chinese to pick up some food for them. Parking up in front of his place, she made her way to the front door, food in hand and knocked on the door.
Remy had been nervous. This was big for him. He closest friend, Rogue, had been the main person he could confide in for a long time. Now, suddenly, there was this lady he liked, a lot, and he liked talking to her. Remy opened his door, and ushered her in, a hat low over his face until the door was shut. Then he cast it aside and looked at her.
His eyes, where they background had once been white, was now back. And where brown irises had once peeked out now peered a lurid, glowing red circle. Remy smiled, a lopsided thing. “Hello, Elizabeth.”
Elizabeth couldn’t help but stop momentarily as she first saw his eyes. They were remarkable. She couldn’t help but reach out and touch her fingertips to his temple, as she looked into his face. “Remy...I...are you ok? Does it hurt?” She asked, concerned.
Her touch brought a soft humm from him, almost a purring sound. “Did at first, but not anymore. Now it’s just like normal eyes, but able to see better, and shocking in the mirror.” He looked at her with a feeling of a smirk, and his eyes shone as he looked at her. She aroused him, a lot, and it almost surely showed in those eyes.
“They are… expressive. And you… anyone ever told you that your hands… are very nice.”
Elizabeth smiled demurely at his flattery and dropped her eyes from his. “Thank you, but no-one’s ever commented on my hands before,” she told him, feeling slightly shy over the compliment. “So, uh...shall we have dinner and you can tell about how it happened?” She suggested, holding the bag of take-out in front of her and stepping back slightly from him, dropping her hand from his face. Remy made her feel off-kilter, and the look she’d read on his face wasn’t something she’d seen directed to her for a long time. It didn’t make her uncomfortable, for she was pretty sure what he was thinking, but it made her very aware of every little move he made or look he cast her way.
“Yes, please.” He smiled and led the way to his table, where two comfy seats faced each other, and some sketches and pages of dialogue sat off to one side. “Please, make yourself at home.” He smiled softly, nodding to her.
“I, ah… woke up from a nap. I keep odd hours with my work, and mostly work around inspiration, you know? So, I was sleeping, when I had a vivid dream, of the kind that Orange County gives us so obligingly, and woke from it with splitting pain in my eyes and head. I thought it was just a migraine, until I went into the bathroom to splash water on my face, and looked at the mirror. Even with the light off, I saw perfectly, and what i saw were two glowing red eyes where my old ones used to be.” He shivered.
“The migraine has mostly faded, but the freakout is kind of still going.”
Elizabeth took a moment to look over the sketches, admiring the evidence of his talent as she did. “These are really good,” she said quietly, reaching out to touch the edge of one of the pictures. “I’ve never been able to draw. Stick men are about my limit,” she gave a little laugh and blushed, shaking her head to rid herself of the idea.
“That sounds incredibly disconcerting to say the least,” she replied to his story gently as she started to remove the take-out from the packaging and place it on the table. “Have you taken any painkillers for the migraine?” She asked as she looked over at him. She wanted to reach out to him and take his hand, as if physical touch would somehow stop him freaking out.
Remy blushed faintly. “We all have our own talents.”
He shook his head as she asked the words. “No. I thought I had, but thinking on it now., no.” He chuckled. “I suppose I should do that.” He shivered and did the reaching for her, one hand on her arm, if not her hand. “Thank you, Elizabeth, for coming over.”
He smiled tentatively as he went to get the medicine, and some water.
“Can I interest you in water, or something else to drink?”
“Of course I came,” Elizabeth stopped and smiled up at him. She regretted not reaching out to him and missed his presence next to her. She watched him move into the kitchen and fetch himself some water. “I don't suppose you have any wine do you?” she asked. This was very strange, she felt like she wanted to touch him, comfort him more but their relationship was so new she found herself holding back for fear of scaring him off.
He swallowed his medicine with a sip of water, then smiled.
“I do, yes.” He smiled and moved to the kitchen, pulling a cork and pouring wine into two glasses. “I only have red, but it is a good year, at least.” He grinned as he came out of the back kitchen room, and moved to her side, handing her her glass of wine.
“I… I am very glad you’re here. I wasn’t sure what to do, when this happened.” He reached out, hesitantly, to touch her arm. “I am glad.” The words felt lame to him, but they were true.
Elizabeth murmured her thanks as she received the glass from him, then took a sip. “Mmm, it's good,” she told him with a smile. Turning to face him, she lifted her hand and took his hand touching her in her own. “I have to admit, I was touched that you thought to message me,” she quirked a smile. “I know we've only just met really and I uh...I'm really glad you called,” she gave a little laugh. “I really like spending time with you and I'd be happy if I can be of any help for you with this,” she told him, rubbing her thumb over to the skin of his hand.
Remy smiled softly, listening. “I… kind of like you, Elizabeth.” He flushed. “That sounds so high school… but it’s true. I think a lot of you, and I like being around you.”
He grinned a little. “I just like the idea of you being here, and you make me feel calm, collected, really.”
He smiled shyly, and lifted her hand to kiss it. “Right now, I feel half- freaked out, but, you being here helps.”
Elizabeth watched him, breath caught in her throat and her heart beating fast as she listened to him. She smiled at him serenely as he kissed her hand and took a tiny step closer. “Then I'll be here as long as you need,” she told him.
“Thank you, Elizabeth.” His eyelids were hooded low over his eyes, and he smiled, low and slow, softly, at her, the look in his eyes showing his appreciation, and desire, for her. “I appreciate it, a lot.” He took a soft step closer as well, leaving the rest for her to close, if she wanted.
His hand remained on hers, holding hers with a gentle but firm hold. “I like your eyes.”
“Well thank you,” Elizabeth smiled brightly in reply, feeling her breath hitch at the closeness of him. “And I like your eyes,” she told him quietly. She couldn’t help her eyes flitting down to his lips as she said it, their proximity making her forget half of why she’d come here. Feeling drawn to him as if by some unseen force, she leaned in the short distance between them and pressed her lips to his.
She pulled back after a couple of seconds and pressed her lips together, feeling her cheeks flaming and dropped her eyes back to the take out food she had previously been unloading. “God, I’m sorry, I don’t know what...I’m sorry,” she tried to explain. What had made her feel so impulsive around this man?
Her kiss caught him offguard. He hadn’t expected that of her. Here he was flailing and panicking, and she did that and… and, it felt really good. Remy interrupted her words and kissed her in return. “Don’ apologize, chere’. You make a man smile.”
He stroked her cheek.
Elizabeth felt utterly flustered. She hadn't planned to kiss him, but it had just happened. She had been drawn in by him and it seemed like the right thing to do. She leaned into the touch on her cheek, reaching up to touch his hand with hers and closed her eyes while she tried to collect herself. “Sorry, you're dealing with a lot right now and I didn't mean to add to it by...practically throwing myself at you,” she tried to explain, waving a hand between them.
“It’s okay, Elizabeth.” He paused, and flushed, then nodded. “I’ve been attracted to you from the moment we spoke on the network.” He shook his head. “And while I may be out of sorts now, please believe that kiss was definitely from my right mind.”
He blew out a long breath. “But if you are willing tonight to just be here for a friend, maybe we can talk about that… that kiss, and more kisses, soon.”
Running her fingers through her hair, Elizabeth gave a little laugh and nodded. “I would like that,” she smiled at him and returned her attention to their dinner. “Now, how about we have some food and you can tell me some more about your Dreams.”
“That sounds perfect.” He nodded. “Thank you. I would like that a lot.” Remy saw a new future stretch out ahead of them.
