John slowly came to consciousness, feeling warm and secure. He blinked groggily and shifted, to find himself pinned by Sarah’s head on his chest. Smiling to himself, he wrapped his arm around her and shifted her closer against his body. Pressing a series of soft kisses to her hairline, he started tracing patterns gently on her back.

Sarah fought waking up but as John shifted and touched her she was pulled more and more towards consciousness. Moaning a little she opened one eye and smiled, pressing a kiss to his lips, “Morning” she mumbled before nuzzling into his chest.

John groaned sleepily against the top of her hair. “Does it have to be?” he complained. “Morning means getting dragged out of this warm bed and doing boring adult things,” he nuzzled closer to her and tightened his hold on her. “I'd much rather stay here and do fun adult things,” he teased with a grumble voice. He was still grinning as he rolled her onto her back and his hands started to wander. His smiling lips dropped down to press against her pulse point and he nuzzled down the column of her throat happily.

Sarah couldn’t stop the little squeak of laughter escaping when he rolled them over, “Well fun adult things do sound much better” she said, letting her hands slide into his hair as he pressed his lips to her neck. Her legs were just moving to wrap around his waist when the door banged open and someone jumped on the bed. “Mum, John, you’re awake” Kira said stating the obvious and ignoring the scrambling the adults were doing to ensure they were covered.

John pulled up the blankets to cover Sarah at the same time as he rolled off her. Swallowing his disappointment, he lay back for a second and turned his head to Sarah, giving her his best kicked puppy look. Sighing, he smiled up at the little girl on the bed. “Hey there munchkin, what are you doing up so early?”

Sarah pressed a quick kiss to his lips before she focused on her daughter, “Yeah why are you up?” She asked, usually Kira was a good sleeper.

“Uncle Felix went out and I heard the door” she said, “Are we going to do something fun today? All of us?” She asked, her little eyes looking hopefully at John.

John grinned at the little girl looming over them then cast a quick glance at Sarah. “Well of course we can! But first your mom and I need to get up and showered. And coffee-d,” he tagged on the end, making a face as he wasn't convinced it was an actual word, but it served to get the point across. “Did you have anything in mind kiddo?” he asked.

“That isn’t a word” she informed him but she gave him a grin that matched her mother’s. “Can we go to a zoo?” she asked, she liked the idea of walking through the zoo with her mum and John. She’d taken quite a shine to him since she’d first met him, he was smart and he liked her and her mum. Sarah was very pleased, everything was going well, she just had to hope nothing would mess it up now.

John chuckled. “You're right kiddo, it's not a word, but that's what my brain is like before coffee,” he admitted. “It all depends on your mom,” he turns his head on the pillow to look at her lying next to him. “So what do you say mom?” he grinned.

“Mum makes words up too when she’s tired or annoyed” Kira told him, before looking at her mum.

“Well how can I say no when both my gorgeous people are looking at me like that?” Sarah said with a smile, tugging Kira to her and pressing a kiss to her head. “Okay monkey, go watch tv for a bit so we can get showered and dressed alright?”

“Okay” Kira agreed, hugging her mum and freeing an arm to pull John into it too before she bounced off the bed and into the living room.

“Sorry” Sarah said once Kira had gone, “I know a day at the zoo isn’t quite what you had in mind”

John chuckled as the little girl hugged them both then bounded off out of the room. “Hey, that's ok, I like spending time with you guys,” he rolled to lean up on an elbow to look down at her. “Besides it's not like I had anything else to do today and it has been years since I went to a zoo!” he grinned and pressed a kiss to her cheek before throwing back the covers and reaching for his boxers. He slipped them on quickly, lest Kira ran back in unexpectedly and surprised them both. “Come on, we can grab a quick shower together and then go and see the meerkats!” he enthused as he stood and started tugging playfully on her bed covers.

Sarah tugged him in close for a proper kiss before she let him put his boxers on watching him with open appreciation. John really had been a wonder, from a friend with benefits to a boyfriend and now he even liked spending time with her kid. He was definitely a good guy and she felt pretty damn lucky. Letting him pull the covers off she stood naked and wrapped her arms around him, “Thank you” she said honestly before kissing him and taking his hand, “Let’s shower” She fully intended to blow him in the shower, she was fairly sure they’d have time now Kira was watching her show.

John groaned as he saw her walk towards him in all her naked glory. Grinning against her lips when she kissed him, he let her lead him into the bathroom. Hopefully Kira would be distracted enough.
