Over the last few weeks, Felix had been spending at least two nights a week at Josh’s making sure that he was eating and getting some sleep since the younger boy had been having a rough time with his dreams, which Felix could understand. Sure, Felix’s dreams may not have been quite as dark and creepy as Josh’s, but there were still people after them in Felix’s dreams, which was dangerous. Felix cared a lot about Josh and ever since Sarah had caught him coming in one morning from Josh’s he’d been wondering exactly how Josh felt and while he wanted to ask, part of him was worried that Josh didn’t feel the same way and it had been so long since Felix had liked someone as more than just a friend with benefits.
Today Felix had decided to take Kira out to the park and to get some ice cream because other than spending time with Josh, he’d been busy with work so he hadn’t spent as much time with his niece as he would have liked, so today was going to be their day. After getting ice cream they headed towards the park to hang out.
Josh honestly probably wouldn’t have been able to survive the past couple of weeks without Felix. Talking to his sisters, and to Sam -- it helps. But it also reminds him of his dreams. Felix isn’t in his dreams, he’s just here and real and Josh loves falling asleep against him. Doesn’t even mind when Felix has to sneak out to go to work.
Today’s an okay day. The sun is out and he didn’t have any dreams last night, and he’d managed to get to class today. On his way home he wanders through the park, only to see a familiar face.
“Well hey handsome,” he grins and waves. “And tiny child, too. Hi to both of you.”
Felix looked up at the sound of the familiar voice and smiled as he spotted Josh, “Hey. Fancy meeting you here.” Felix was happy to see Josh out and about considering how the younger man’s dreams had been taking a toll on him lately. It was obvious that Josh had been getting more sleep and was eating, which Felix couldn’t help but take a little credit for. Once he’d found out that Josh had been having a hard time, he’d decided that he wanted to help him get through it and take care of him. It was just the way Felix was when it came to someone he liked and he liked Josh a lot.
“I decided to walk through the park after class. Didn’t really feel like going home yet.” He gives Felix a warm smile, his expression radiating fondness. Though he’s not sure if he’s allowed to give Felix a kiss in front of the little girl, or if that’s off limits or what. So he just shoves his hands in his pockets and rocks back on his heels and keeps smiling.
Felix couldn’t blame Josh for not wanting to go home right away. Before Sarah and Kira moved to the OC, Felix had mostly only spent time at his apartment at night unless he was out at the bar or club. Speaking of Kira, it took Felix a moment to remember that his niece was still there, he’d been too busy smiling back at Josh, “Oh, Josh, this is my niece Kira. Kira, Josh.” He said, gesturing from one to the other.
Kira smiled up at Josh, “Hi, Josh.” She glanced over at Felix, “Uncle Felix, is he your boyfriend?” Kira was only ten, but she’d known that Felix was gay and understood what that meant for some time now and she knew that when people smiled at each other the way they were, it meant they might be more than just friends.
Felix’s eyes widened slightly and he looked from Kira to Josh, “I….I don’t know.” His brows rose, questioningly at Josh, “Are you my boyfriend?” Of course Felix was not against Josh being his boyfriend; he liked him quite a lot after all.
Well, that is a very astute small child. Josh finds himself turning the slightest bit pink, but his smile just widens. “Yeah. Yeah I think I am. If your Uncle Felix says yes.”
He’s not going to plant a big kiss on him in front of Kira, but he does lean down to give Felix a kiss on the cheek. “I could be into that.”
Felix found himself smiling as well and nodded, “I think I could be into that too.” As Josh kissed his cheek, Felix reached for his hand and entwined their fingers together. He hadn’t had an actual boyfriend in quite awhile, but he really liked Josh and the thought of Josh being his boyfriend made Felix smile any time he thought of it.
“Good. Uncle Felix needs a good boyfriend.” Kira said, smiling at them both, “Do you want to hang out with us now?” She asked, looking from Josh to Felix.
“Well hopefully I can be a good boyfriend.” He’s not so sure about that right now. Felix has been a great boyfriend. Checking up on Josh and making sure he hasn’t self destructed yet. Holding him through his nightmares. Josh isn’t sure what he’s giving back, but -- if Felix is happy, so is he.
He sets his backpack down and scootches Felix over a little so he can sit next to him on the bench, fingers still entwined. “Sure. Beats doing homework, right?”
Felix smirked and moved over to make room for Josh on the bench. He’d been wanting to bring up the whole possibly dating thing before, but had never found the right time so he had Kira to thank for randomly bringing it up now. “Nice to know I’m better than homework.” He squeezed Josh’s hand then glanced over at Kira, “But homework is still important. Your mum would kill me if I let you think homework wasn’t important.”
Oops, already being a bad influence on small children. Way to go, Josh. “Homework is definitely important. Your uncle always makes sure mine gets done.” With a lot of kisses and cuddles and distractions along the way, but it gets done. “Does he help you with yours, too?”
Felix chuckled and leaned back as he recalled that they had met because Josh had been avoiding homework at the time, “Sarah and I both help with what we can. Unfortunately, neither of us were great students.”
“Sometimes they say that school is different now than when they went.” Which was true or at least it seemed that way to Felix and it was possible that it was the difference between school in England and America, but sometimes the things that Kira had at only ten boggled his mind.
Going to a bar is a completely valid means of studying. It’s people watching. For his theatre class. Or whatever.
“It kind of is. I bet I couldn’t do any of your homework, it’s way harder than when I was your age.” He tosses Felix a wink and a grin.
“Teachers or whoever decides these things are bloody mad these days. I don’t know what they’re trying to accomplish other than confuse the hell out of parents.” Felix grinned back and squeezed Josh’s hand again. Now that Kira knew about Josh, he would have to plan for Josh and Sarah to meet and then eventually Cosima would want to meet Josh, which was fine with Felix, because he had a feeling that knowing Sarah and Cosima would be good for Josh and Felix just wanted what was good for his new boyfriend.
