Blair’s dreams were not going the way she’d expected. She had been on top, had a fantastic boyfriend and everyone loved or feared her. Now, her friends had turned on her, Jenny had weaseled her way in and after losing her virginity to Chuck, she’d lost Nate. She’d wallowed in her misery over the things she’d lost for a couple of weeks then Serena had forced her to get back out there and in the end, no one could keep Blair Waldorf down for long.
While her dreams appeared to be getting better, her real life was getting more confusing. Ever since Chuck had shown up a few months back, she’d become conflicted over her feelings for him and the dreams hadn’t helped any. Chuck was the last person she’d ever thought of romantically, but there had definitely been something that night they’d been caught by that mistletoe then he’d acted quickly to get her to the hospital when she’d stepped into that fog a few weeks back.
She had thought about calling Serena and talking to her about everything, but considering Blair would first have to explain the dreams and weird things that happened in the OC, she’d decided instead to call Hanna. The other girl was also a dreamer and was familiar with the things that went on in the county and while they’d only met in person once, they’d talked on the net a few times since and Blair liked her. So, she’d invited her over for brunch on a morning that she knew her father and Roman would be out, simply because it would be easier to talk about these things without either of them accidentally overhearing.
Hanna did her best to keep from getting too focused on any one aspect of her life, which meant she was often running around between work, school, Caleb and her friends. But it was good to keep all aspects in order so as not to become overwhelmed or ignore everything else. So when Blair had invited her over for brunch? Of course Hanna had agreed. She had enjoyed their talks and well, it was nice to have friends who didn’t dream of Rosewood. She loved Caleb and Aria, obviously, but with the stress and strain from those dreams? A break from it was always a good thing.
Hanna also understood the importance of not being overheard by people who might not understand the things they discussed thanks to the dreams. Like the whole escaping from New York thing after Ali told them what had happened and why she had faked her death. That was still a lot to take in. But Hanna dealt with it. Mostly. Okay so sometimes she just tried to ignore it but that was irrelevant.
Arriving at Blair’s, the blonde couldn’t help but look around. It was impressive, even for Orange County standards. And there was the brunette. “Hey.” Greeting her with a smile, Hanna brushed some hair behind her ear.
Blair had heard the bell, but knew that their housekeeper would answer it, so she continued making sure that everything was laid out perfectly in the dining room. When Blair invited someone over for brunch, it usually consisted of pastries such as scones and macaroons and fruit salad and of course mimosas.
Hearing Hanna’s voice, Blair looked up and smiled at the blond, “Hi. I’m glad you could make it.” She approached Hanna and gave her a friendly hug in greeting, “Mimosa?” She asked, gesturing towards the two champagne flutes that were already filled and on the table.
Returning the hug, Hanna smiled and gladly took the mimosa. “You had me at brunch, of course I could make it.” It was also super fancy. Like, Rosewood fancy at the club with the Hastings or Ali’s. Well, before the whole disappearance/faked death thing. That sort of made things all the more complicated. But fancy brunches? Part of the Rosewood repertoire.
“This looks amazing.”
Blair picked up one of the glasses and handed it to Hanna then moved around the table to take a seat, “So you’re just using me for my fancy brunch, huh? Well, I can’t say it would be the first time.” She smiled and gestured to one of the chairs, “Please, sit down. How’ve you been? Hope you haven’t been having any more stalker dreams.” While Gossip Girl could be a menace, whoever was keeping tabs on Hanna and her friends in the blond’s dreams was even worse.
“Only partially.” Grinning, Hanna took a seat once she had her mimosa and took a sip as she contemplated the question. There was the fact Caleb was now apparently seeing ghosts but it wasn’t her secret to tell. So instead she just shrugged. “Busy mostly between school, my internship, friends and boyfriend. As for dreams. Always a new one every couple of days. It’s annoying.” At times it felt as though she were growing numb to the increasing danger. She was so used to it at this point. “What about you?”
Hanna certainly had a full schedule, “Most of my time is dedicated to my internship.” Blair was very dedicated to her internship and working her way to the top on her own. Because of this she hadn’t spent too much time trying to make friends since she’d moved out to California, but she was glad that she’d met Hanna, “As for the dreams, that’s part of the reason I invited you over this afternoon.”
Hanna could definitely appreciate wanting to make your way to the top on your own. She just knew that she had to follow a specific course, which was where school came in. And she also knew she’d probably completely snap if she didn’t make time for Caleb and her friends as well. With the dreams, that break was definitely needed. And she was from the area, which made it a bit easier as she didn’t have to go out and meet people. She already had her friends in the area, so she was lucky in that regard.
“Oh?”
Blair took another sip of her mimosa before she reached for a scone and broke off an end, “There’s someone here, from my dreams. A friend from home. Until recently I never thought of him any way but a scheming womanizer.” It was basically how she’d thought of Chuck in the dreams as well, “But then, in the dreams, we had sex and if that wasn’t enough, we got ambushed by one of those awful mistletoes around Christmas.” Blair had definitely felt something when they had kissed, but she didn’t want to take a chance and get hurt. She knew Chuck well enough to know that he wasn’t exactly the relationship type.
Ah… that would certainly do it. And it was also completely different from what had happened with her and Caleb. “That does make it more difficult. I mean, Caleb and I share the same dreams, but we started dating before either of us got to that point in them.” Which meant that there was less confusing of feelings and dream crossover. “I know sometimes my insecurities from the dreams though cross over so it’s pretty weird.”
Taking a sip of her mimosa, Hanna paused, trying to figure out what she could say. “I mean. You aren’t destined or anything to be with people from your dreams. If he’s a scheming womanizer here, then that’s definitely something you need to consider.”
Blair sighed and took a sip of her mimosa, “That’s the thing. Once Chuck Bass has his mind set on something, he doesn’t give up.” Even when they hadn’t been talking in the dreams, Chuck had still apparently had feelings for her. “In a weird way though, we’re very similar. As far as the scheming goes. Not the womanizing.”
While Hanna should probably be wary of the self admission of scheming thanks to both Ali and Mona and how that had messed everything up in her dreams, broken her heart, made the life of her and her friends literal hell, she just brushed it off. She was used to it and it didn’t necessarily mean someone was a horrible person. And Blair was self aware enough to admit it. “Well that’s annoying.”
There just got to be a point where persistent and relentless pursuing became stalkerish and gross. “I mean, I guess we’re drawn to people who are similar to us. It’s just knowing what’s right for you.”
“He hasn’t been quite as persistent in real life as in the dreams. In the dreams, he threatened to tell my boyfriend, at the time, that we had sex. They were best friends though and as much as Chuck wanted to be with me, he didn’t want to jeopardize their friendship.” She took another bite of her scone, “It didn’t matter anyway cause Gossip Girl ended up finding out somehow that I’d slept with Chuck after someone sent in a blast that I might be pregnant.” Nate had found out about her and Chuck then and all hell had broken loose.
Hanna nodded slowly, not quite sure what to make of it. Because the persistent was still annoying in her opinion if a solid no had been given. Though it did sound as though Blair didn’t know what she wanted either. Not really, anyway. “Nothing like anonymous stalkers messing up your life.”
True, with A it was more blackmail into more secrets and trying to set them on fire, or leaving messages in teeth or just being a complete psycho. But still. Anonymous stalkers and making lives hell.
“Tell me about it.” Blair was just happy that Gossip Girl wasn’t a real person in the waking world. Sure, she now had a tendency to check her phone more often than she used to to make sure there were no Gossip Girl blasts, but she was able to, for the most part, go on with her life as it was before she’d started dreaming with the exception of her confused feelings for Chuck, “What did we do to deserve stalkers?”
“No idea.” Honestly it was the question of the century for the girls. Why did A hate them so much? Yes. Ali was a piece of work but did that mean they had to suffer for it? It gave her a headache. Instead she just raised her glass of mimosa. “Here's to no annoying stalkers here at any rate.”
“To no annoying stalkers.” While Blair’s feelings for Chuck were still complicated, she knew eventually she’d figure it out. Or not. It all depended on whether or not Blair would just ignore it. That was known to happen at times. For the moment, she was going to enjoy Hannah’s company.
