Who: Kol and Rebekah Mikaelson Where: Kol's House When: March 1st What: Sibling Reunion Status: Complete
Rebekah knew she had been an idiot for not telling her siblings she had returned to her hometown. As horrible as it sounded it had truly slipped her mind, something she did feel guilty about. But she had finally texted them and she was here now, pulling up in the drive of her youngest older brothers home. Laurel and Madison were happy at the idea of meeting someone new. Especially one of Rebekah's brothers. She had told the twins all sorts of stories from when she were younger and all the shenanigans the Mikaelson children tended to get into.
Unbuckling the two small girls she took each of their hands and walked up to the door, a large bag slung over her shoulder. It wasn't the most glamorous of jobs and certainly not one a Mikaelson would have. She knew that her father hated it. But she was happy and that was all that mattered. Reaching up with a free hand she knocked on the door, waiting for Kol to answer.
Kol was happy that Rebekah was home. All his other siblings had up and abandoned him, so it was nice to know that his sister was home in Orange County where she belonged. It was nice to have someone else by his side when dad got unbearable. So, it was with great delight that he walked (with restraint, not vamp speed) to the door to let his sister in the house.
“Beks!” He laughed happily as he hugged the woman close to him, kissing her forehead softly, “oh Beks. It’s good to see you, I missed you.”
With a smile, he bent down to the girls. “I bet I can guess your names based on how pretty you two are. Hmmm let me think. You,” he pointed at Laurel “are Princess Laurel, and you,” he pointed at Madison, “are Princess Madison. How did I do?”
Seeing her brother made the younger siblings heart swell. She had kept in touch of course through phone calls and emails. But it just wasn't the same as seeing her brother in person. As she let go of the girls hands once they were inside her arms wrapped around him to return the affection.
Then he turned and addressed the girls, causing them to cheer in delight at the fact he identified each of them right. Adding that they were princesses was a bonus. It was easy to see how wonderful he'd be as a father.
“Indoor voices girls,” she reminded them though she was smiling at their reaction. Turning her attention to Kol, she hugged him again. “I missed you too brother. How have you been?”
“Now Nanny Beks,” Kol mocked, “they can be as loud as they want in my house, They are just too cute for words,” he said with a smile before he hugged her again. “I’m alright. Thanksgiving and Christmas was tough. Tatia was gone for 2 months for job training and business trips, so I was all alone. You know how Dad is, he assumed she left me again and spent the entire time belittling me as a husband and as a man,” he rolled his eyes, “but she’s back now and we talked about….what you and I discussed and we think it’s the best option for us. He bent down to the girls again and smiled charmingly, “I just baked some chocolate chip cookies. Which one of you lovely princesses wants a goblet of ice cold milk and cookies with me?”
“I'm sorry Kol. I wanted to come here for Christmas but I ended up catching the girl's flu,” she said with a frown as she knelt down to take of the girls jackets. Of course her brother had to say the magic word. At the mere mention of cookies both eagerly looked at her waiting for permission.
“Please Bekah?!” Laurel started saying, inching closer to the nanny’s brother. Right after her was Madison chiming in “We won't spoil our supper!”
Laughing, she threw a mock glare at her brother before giving a nod. There was no way she'd be able to win this one. “You can have a few.” She agreed as she motioned for Kol to lead the way. The children took his hands simultaneously, as he was the one who knew where the cookies were. “You've met them all of five minutes and you're already spoiling them!”
“I can’t help it,” he said looking over his shoulder at his sister, “they are just way cuter than you,” he laughed as he brought the girls into the kitchen, placing them on the chairs before placing plate of cookies and milk in front of them,
“And don’t worry about making it home for Christmas, Beks. You have enough on your plate, and you’re a grown woman. You don’t need to be jumping to come see me just because I’m lonely.”
Rebekah smiled and just shook her head as she sat down at the table across from the twins, watching as they dug into their treat excitedly. She'd had no doubt they would love her brother and this was something that just sealed the deal in their eyes. He certainly would be a wonderful father.
“It's not just that you're lonely,” she disagreed, nicking a cookie for herself. “I've missed you. And usually when either Freya or I are there it takes the heat off of you when it comes to Father.”
“Nothing is going to take the heat off me when it comes to him. Mother doesn’t even bother to defend me against the fu--” he stopped, looking at the three year olds, “against his verbal abuse,” he finished lamely as he leaned forward to ruffle the twins hair. “I want to be a father, I want to have kids with Tatia, but then I ask myself...do I really want to bring them into a family where their grandfather will hate them? It doesn’t seem right to me.”
Rebekah was thankful that Kol caught himself before uttering something bad in front of the two little parrots she looked after. She did not want to have Amycus asking about his children's new language skills.
“You don't have to let them be around him Kol,” she said softly. “Seeing family is a privilege. Not a right. If he decides to act like a monster than he just gets to miss out on something wonderful. Don't let him affect your future.”
“You’re right, Beks,” Kol said with a smile before turning his attention the the twins, “What do you think, my little Princesses? Do you think that I’d made a good daddy someday?” Because the opinion of two three year olds really, truly seemed to matter to him.”
He got up from the table and kissed his sister on the forehead before hugging him close, “no matter what, you’re still my best girl Beks. You have been since the day you were born.”
Both girls nodded simultaneously, thankfully remembering not to talk with their mouths full. Taking care of two small children was probably something that no one would thought she would ever do, but she adored every minute of it. In many ways, she saw Madison and Laurel as her own. And now Kol would be starting his own family.
“Is Tatia..like you?” She asked, avoiding the V word with little ears around. “Which we will have to discuss in more detail a night I'm without the girls by the way.”
Kol smiled at the girl, before turning his attention to his sister, and at her veiled question. He understood what she meant, however. She wanted to know if Tatia was a vampire.
“No, she’s not. When I started having the dreams, Damon told me what to possibly expect, since he experienced the same thing. He went to the bank and made a deposit in case he and Elena wanted to ever have kids. So I did the same thing before I turned vampire. That’s why it’ a race against time at this point. So I can make sure she has kids before anything were to….happen.”
“Well whatever happens, you two will make wonderful parents.” She said as she picked up another cookie. She was so glad that her brother had found some happiness even with all of the craziness that seemed to surround them.
“The girls and I were thinking about taking a trip to the playground.” She commented after a moment. “Maybe you’d like to join us? Get some practice in?”
