Jack Mercer loved music. Loved playing it, loved listening to all different types of it, and the biggest perk of owning the bar was that he got to pick just what the fuck was played. Of course he let the staff choose most of the time, but on the monthly 'balance the numbers' night...well no one tried to wrest away control of the music selection. For the most part his selections kept the place humming with energy, and every now an again the patrons found themselves listening to a song that even they had forgotten all about. Such was the case when A-Ha's Take On Me began to play.
With a grin poured himself another shot as his foot began to tap against the floor. The odd change of pace was met with a few looks back to his table, but once those high notes were hit almost everyone was bobbing their heads to the beat.
"Oh fuck you, Robin! I saw that eye roll. Just for that you get to mop up the men's shitter when we close." His voice and laughter echoed out across the bar, even over the music for a moment, much to the dismay of the waitress who was now blushing a deep shade of red. Even as she looked a bit embarrassed the other waitresses and even the regulars sitting at the bar started to laugh too...all knowing that Robin wasn't the first to make such a rookie mistake, and all knowing that she wouldn't be the last.
Jack's gaze shifted away from the bar and landed squarely on the young woman who was being directed straight back to him. With a soft sigh he nodded to himself at last and gestured for her to come closer to his table. Honestly he wasn't sure who she was, but it was a safe bet that she was probably looking for work. After all if she just a had a question the staff could have helped her, but they knew to direct the potential new workers back to him.
Had it been any other night he could have just ignored her, and remained behind the bar serving up drinks. However Jack had staffed an extra bartender to cover for him while he handled the books. Since he had no energy to get back to that job either, well for a rare shiny moment Jackie had no excuse not to talk. It was that, and the fact that he had already been thinking back to a few years ago when it was him coming in to ask for work.
