Veronica was honestly enjoying her time at the Agency so far. Sure she had been put in a few dangerous situations but she would have been in them anyway, even if she didn’t work for the Agency. There was really no escape from the OC craziness, she might as well do her part to help keep people safe. She was becoming a lot closer with Peggy as well. Veronica had known her for awhile, but she had mostly always been Sharon’s cousin, now Veronica could truly call her a friend of her own.
Drinks after work were becoming a semi-regular thing. Tonight was one of those nights. “So, what’s the deal with you and Orcot?” Veronica asked as the bartender brought over their drinks. Leon, he was a good guy, another of Veronica’s close friends, but he wasn’t exactly datable. At least Veronica didn’t think so.
Happy hour was one of Peggy’s favorite things about leaving for the day. She never truly “punched out” in any sense, so she always cherished when she could steal a bit of time to be away from work. And Veronica had been more than willing to come along on these jaunts and a friendship had really started to build between the two of them, which was really nice.
However, she wasn’t expecting Veronica’s question and she almost choked on her drink. It always slipped her mind that Veronica knew Leon as well, which was probably a result of him and Sharon being close friends. Once her breathing had been restored to normal she gave a small shrug and a tiny smile, “I don’t know, honestly. We’re just seeing each other. But I’m also seeing someone else, but neither of them have made a move to be exclusive, so I’m not really pushing it.” It wasn’t a problem that Peggy had very often, so she wasn’t sure what exactly to do.
Leon was another friend that Veronica first knew because of Sharon, but also because of Logan. It was like she couldn’t escape the guy. He grew on her over time though and they obviously became friends. She even let him watch Backup when she went out of town, okay more like forced him to but same difference.
“Someone else?” that definitely caught Veronica’s attention. Veronica had never really dated like that. She was either alone or in a relationship and it took a lot to get her in a relationship which was probably why she had a total of four boyfriends over the course of her life. She didn’t judge Peggy for it though, in fact more power to her. It just wasn’t Veronica’s thing probably due to her past but that was a whole other matter that she didn’t like talking or thinking about. Focusing on Peggy was so much more fun. “Who’s this other guy? Is he half the weirdo Leon is?”
“Yeaaaah, it was completely unexpected. But, it’s Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. He and I have a history in my dreams, so I was quite curious about him when he showed up here. He’s like the opposite kind of weirdo that Leon is. He’s a good catholic boy, doesn’t drink a lot, doesn’t get in fights, likes to spend a lot of time volunteering. I’m basically seeing two guys that are complete opposites,” Peggy explained with a soft laugh as she finally realized that fact about the men. That was probably why she enjoyed being around both of them because they were quite different, but she was just keeping her options open for the time being.
They definitely sounded completely opposite. Veronica couldn’t really judge Steve since she didn’t know him, but he kind of sounded like a typical boy scout. And while Leon was a cop he was no boy scout. “Dream history complicates things,” Veronica knew that from experience as well. “If you didn’t have dream history with the guy do you think you’d still be interested in him?”
“Possibly. I don’t tend the toy the line on the super nice boy aspect since I’m definitely not sinless, but he’s incredibly attractive and generally nice. Leon has a better handle on the type of things that I do and I don’t think Steve really does. His dreams may change him as they come, but for now I’m still pretending I just work a desk job for the government until he dreams more,” Peggy explained, which was the only major downside to that relationship. Leon didn’t like The Agency, but he respected what she did because he was in a similar line of work. Her past was definitely morally grey and she wasn’t sure if either guy would appreciate that.
“I think Leon turned Backup against our work,” Veronica mentioned. Ever since she had left the dog with Leon for a few days, Backup had been very grumpy and whiny whenever Veronica was leaving for work. Knowing Leon he probably bitched about The Agency the whole time since that’s what he apparently liked to do. “If Steve is in your dreams though, shouldn’t he have a general idea of what you’re like and what you do? Unless you are totally opposite from your dreamself,” but in Veronica’s experience that didn’t really happened. There always seemed to be more similarities to dream counterparts than not. Although she could only really tell that for sure with herself, Logan and her dad considering those were the ones in her own dreams. Also from what Veronica understood there was a form of The Agency in Peggy’s and Sharon’s dreams. So wouldn’t it be in this Steve guy’s too?
“Well, that’s just rude. I’ll have to send him a text and tell him that he’s not allowed to turn animals against my Agency,” Peggy wouldn’t put it past Leon to do something like that, but it was incredibly amusing that it was happening to poor Veronica. She took another sip of her drink and pursed her lips together slightly as she tried to figure out how to approach this question, “Well… he knows somewhat of what I do. He knows I’m a member of the SSR and that I work for the government, but I don’t think he fully understands the spy aspect of it in the dreams. We spent some time apart while I was on missions and things like that, so he wasn’t right alongside me the entire time. And the same goes for her. I’ve done a lot of things in my line of work and a lot of it is classified. But, I think he’ll understand the Agency a lot better than Leon does.” As Natasha would say, there was a lot of red in her ledger.
"Good luck with that." Leon had always been pretty damn stubborn when it came to the Agency. Veronica nodded as Peggy explained what the other guy knew about her job in both worlds. "Well it doesn't sound like he will be as grumpy about it. Or just grumpy in general." Not that Veronica could really talk she could be a bit of a grump sometimes too. "It is too bad though that Leon is so against it." Not just because it got annoying having to defend her job all the time but with his career as a detective here and everything she knew about his dreams he might make a good asset. Despite the fact that his dreamself hadn't caught that serial killer yet. Back to the topic at hand though. "But if you can't choose between the guys yet I say just keep dating both until you know? Unless one of them is bugging you to be exclusive?"
Peggy completely agreed with Veronica that Leon would be a good asset to the Agency, but she wasn’t going to push it since he was so oddly against them. It was better to keep things at a middle ground right now where he didn’t grump about it too much to her. Now Steve...she was going to bring him into the Agency as soon as he was far enough along and possibly developed Super Soldier powers. “Thanks and I don’t think he will grump about it, but it might take some getting used to on his end. And it really is too bad that Leon hates the Agency so much. And that’s good advice, which I’ll probably be doing. I see them kind of sporadically sometimes, so it’s not like I’m having breakfast with one guy and dinner with the other. But, we’ll see if either of them wants to fold into being exclusive and then I’ll just have to let the other down gently.”
Veronica took a sip of her drink before replying. “Seems like a good plan.” That’s probably what she would do as well if she was dating multiple people. But it was just Logan and they were pretty serious which for some reason wasn’t freaking Veronica out like it usually would. “If it helps I’m sure Leon is used to being let down.” Poor guy Veronica wasn’t all that nice to or about him. But, hey, that’s how you knew she cared.
“Aww, that’s mean, Veronica,” Peggy chastised with a laugh, but she had to admit that Veronica was probably quite correct in her assumption. It would still be a hard situation to have to break up with anyone and she would still feel guilty about it. But, now was time to switch the focus over to Veronica and get the spotlight off of her, “Soo….how’s your personal life?” She lifted the glass to her lips and waggled her eyebrows slightly.
“Whoops,” maybe that was a bit too harsh even if it might just be true. Seriously she didn’t know why Leon put up with her sometimes but then he always gave it right back and turned her dog against her so whatever. “It’s fine,” Veronica said taking another sip before elaborating. “Somehow Logan managed to get me to agree to move in with him. We’re looking for a place on the beach, so you know a raise would be nice.” She was teasing, mostly.
Peggy’s eyebrows raised as she took in the news. Veronica was going to move out and leave Sharon living by herself. That probably wasn’t the worst thing to happen, but it would be interesting to see how Sharon handled living on her own, but she knew Veronica would probably be back to visit a lot and spend time with Viv. “Well, well, well...moving in with your boyfriend. Isn’t that lovely? As for a raise, talk to Natasha, but I can at least come to your housewarming party? A place on the beach sounds wonderful and I’m excited for you two. How is Sharon taking it?”
“I’ll let you know just how lovely it is.” Honestly she was a little nervous it was a big step but Logan had put up with her this far. As long as he didn’t get super protective they’d be fine. Veronica could handle herself thank you very much. “I’m not sure we are going to have a party but I’ll definitely have you over once we are moved in. Unless you want to help with the moving process?” raised a brow. “Beach is big for Logan so he can surf. It’ll be good for Backup too. As long as I don’t get woken up at the crack of dawn.” She paused to consider how answer the last question. “I haven’t exactly told her yet? I don’t want to rub my happy news in her face. But she mentioned wanting to find a new bigger place for herself, like without me, so I think she has an idea.”
“Possibly. We’ll see how much I’ll continue to like you between now and the moving day,” the comment was followed up with a wink and Peggy took another sip of her drink. She most likely would be happy to help out with the moving and would consider inviting Steve to help, but Leon would probably be there as well. Hm, things were going to get tricky soon, “And that’s nice you’ll find a place like that. He can just escape to the beach and leave you to sleep. And you haven’t told her? Oh goodness. Well, don’t keep it a secret for too long, but I’m sure she wants to think about something new once Viv starts growing more.” She couldn’t imagine Sharon in something bigger just yet, but Vivian would need it once she got bigger, but with Veronica leaving that added extra room.
“Well thanks,” she replied sarcastically. It was probably going to be a bit before they moved anyway considering they hadn’t found a place yet. “I think she’ll be more upset about losing Backup than me,” she quipped but it could possibly be true. That dog was pretty damn lovable. “I’ll tell her soon. I haven’t told many people yet.” Veronica wasn’t the type to squeal about it and tell the world. Peggy had asked about her personal life so she told her. Lina, Cindy, and Emma were her most settled down friends and Veronica wasn’t too proud to ask for advice. Other than that, that was it. Unless Logan had told Leon. She really should tell her dad too. “But if you could keep it to yourself till I tell her I’d appreciate it. It’s the kind of thing that should come from me.”
“Oh yes, your dog is far more entertaining than you. And don’t worry, I’m not going to say anything until you have the chance to talk to her. I’m quite skilled at keeping secrets,” that part was completely true. She had no issue with keeping it as a secret from Sharon because it really should come straight from Veronica. If she could be nominated for an Oscar in faking surprise then she would win. But she was incredibly happy for Veronica and how things were going in her relationship. At least some people could have normal happy lives and Peggy would continue to be confused over two men and battle the weirdness of the OC, “Alright, let me buy the next round as a celebration.”
