Celaena managed to make it to Damian’s doorstep before the rain started and pounded on the door for him to let her in. She’d spent some time getting ready before coming over and she didn’t want all her efforts to be in vain. The rain was just starting to spit and Celaena was about to start swearing when the door opened.
It had been storming out since the day before and had the rain had been on and off all Sunday, but now tidal waves had started hitting all the beaches. Luckily Damian didn’t live close to the beach so he didn’t have to worry about his apartment getting washed away or anything like that.
The rain had just started again when he’d heard the knock at the door. He’d ordered Chinese food for himself and Celaena so he knew it could either be his girlfriend or the food. Reaching the door, cash in hand just in case it was the delivery man, Damian opened it and smiled when he saw Celaena, “Ah, it’s the blond I ordered.” He held up the cash in his hand, smirking as he teased her a little, too focused on his girlfriend to notice anything strange about the rain just yet.

Celaena looked between his face, the money he was holding up, then his face again, and with a completely straight face and dead-pan delivery said: “Honey, if you think I’m only worth that much, then we seriously need to rethink this relationship.” She quirked him a quick smile and moved passed him into the hallway, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek, to find the nearest mirror and see what the damage was.
“Were you expecting someone else?” she asked over her shoulder as she stopped in front of the mirror, reaching a hand up to touch her hair. Stopping short, she saw red splotches dotting her hair and dress. “What the...Damian, there’s blood in my hair! And on my dress!” she turned to him, looking down at herself in disgust. “I bought this especially for you, for tonight and now it’s ruined!” she said, disappointed.
“Crap. And here I was thinking I could afford you,” Damian smirked and kissed her back before moving aside to allow her inside. Damian was just shutting the door when he noticed the red tinge to the rain and the more he watched it, the redder it became, “What the…”
It was then that he heard Celaena’s words and be turned to look at her, “What is going on?” He closed the door and moved towards her, bringing his hands up to run through her hair. “It’s….is that blood!?” It didn’t make any sense.
“It looks like it is,” Celaena lamented, poking her finger at a slodge on her dress and rubbing it between her fingers. “It feels like it too,” she made a face at the sticky mess. “God damned OC with it’s weird shit. Messing up my clothes and my hair,” she sighed dramatically. “Well, this isn’t how I planned on greeting you...I was planning on getting naked in your apartment later on, but...I suppose now will have to do,” she told him glibly with an innocent smile, loving the feel of his hand in her hair, but at the same time desperately wanting to wash it out.
Damian felt bad that Celaena’s dress had been ruined and that whatever was going on outside that gotten blood in her hair, but he couldn’t help but laugh a little at what she said, “Do you wanna take a shower? Can your dress be put in the washing machine?” Damian was tempted to suggest he shower with her, but he knew the food would arrive soon and he didn’t want them to think it had been a crank call or anything. He ordered from their often and didn’t want to get on bad terms with them. “I could wash it while you’re in the shower. Get you something of mine to wear.”
“I would looove to take a shower!” Celaena said, turning a naughty eye on him as she did. “Can I convince you to join me?” she asked coyly, running her eyes down his body then back up. She bit her bottom lip and tilted her head as she looked at him like a tasty morsel. She had to admit, the idea of wearing something of his appealed to her greatly as well, but she liked the idea of him naked too. Shower, Damian in shower, dressing in boyfriend’s clothes, she listed in her head.
“I would, but the food should be here soon. That’s why I answered the door with money.” Damian said, leaning in to kiss Celaena on the cheek, “Otherwise, I totally would.” Taking Celaena’s hand, he led her towards the bathroom and got a towel out for her. “We’ll have other chances to conserve water together. You just get cleaned up now.”
Celaena pouted at him as he led her to the bathroom, then sighed dramatically when he looked for a towel, “Fine”. She reached for the zip of her dress at her side and pulled it down, removing the dirty article of clothing. Left in nothing but her underwear, something she had debated even wearing this evening, and stepped towards the shower to turn the water on. “Could you chuck some clothes in too, please?” she asked, bending over and holding her hand under the water to check the temperature.
Damian was slightly distracted as Celaena got undressed, but he took the dress from her, “It won’t shrink, if I wash it, right?” Her dress had already been ruined enough from the blood rain, he didn’t want to ruin it more from washing it. “And I’ll find you something of mine to wear.” He couldn’t deny that his girlfriend had a fantastic body; all curves and muscle in all the right places.
Celaena looked back over her shoulder with a knowing look on her face. “Shouldn’t do if you wash it at a low temperature,” she smiled at him. “I’ll just get in here on my lonesome then,” she pretended to complain. “One last thing, towels?” she asked him before he left the room completely.
Damian was still holding the towels he’d taken out for her and nodded when he realized it, “Right. Here.” He set them down on the countertop then picked up the dress, “Alright. You clean up and I’ll go find you something else.” Damian lingered for another moment or two before he heard the doorbell and reluctantly pulled his gaze away from his girlfriend’s body, “And there’s the food.”
Leaving the bathroom, so Celaena could wash up, Damian went to answer the door. After paying the delivery man, he set the bag of Chinese food down on the coffee table then end got throw Celaena’s dress in the washing machine, found her an old pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt, which he left in the bathroom after letting her know the food had arrived then went to get plates and utensils and went to wait for her in the living room.
Celaena didn’t waste much time in the shower, although she shampooed her hair twice just to make sure that all the blood was out of it. She heard Damian drop the clothes in the bathroom and mention the food was here and finished rinsing herself off. She dried herself off and changed into Damian’s clothes, taking a moment to bring the collar of his t-shirt to her nose and take in his scent. Closing her eyes, she smiled to herself. She never thought of herself as a soppy romantic, but with Damian she could be. He respected her as a fighter as well as his lover and the same applied for her to him. She could be allowed her moments of weakness with him because she knew he’d never use them against her.
With the too-long sleeves of her sweatshirt clutched in her hands, she headed out from the bathroom, her hair still damp and found him in the living room preparing for dinner. Smiling to herself, she crept up behind him and slid her arms around his waist to hug him and contentedly lay her cheek against the back of his shoulder.
As far as Damian was concerned, he and Celaena fit together so much more than he and Alyssa ever had. With Alyssa he’d needed the companionship and something stable after his mother had died, but with Celaena, they were equals on so many levels and now as a semi adult, Damian had a much better understanding of how things worked and what a healthy relationship was supposed to be.
Smiling when he felt her arms around his waist, Damian brought his hands up to cover her’s, “Feeling better now?” This might not have been exactly how they’d planned to start off their Valentine’s Day evening, but there was still plenty of time to enjoy it.
“I’m always better with you,” Celaena sighed, pressing a kiss to his shoulder.
