Kitty's smile had turned into a cheeky smirk. She wriggled her fingers, and was about to reach down to help Gwen up when the blonde got herself up. "It's complicated. There's a... subset of us, those who frequent that network. We dream into other worlds, other places and times. Hold that thought." She held up a finger, then beckoned for the bartender to bring them an order of scotch.
Once that was placed, she returned her gaze to Gwen. "Okay. And I know that sounds crazy. But these dreams feel real. Realer than real. Like it's a whole other life with its own memories and hopes and traumas. And in mine I dream I'm a mutant. A girl who can walk through walls. And one day it happened while awake. I went right through a wall. Over weeks and months I became able to control that power. It's unique to me, but I know people who dream they're mages, or spies, or just about anything you can think of."
And it sounded crazy, and she knew it. Hence opening the conversation with a display of her powers. "I believe the dreams are windows into alternate realities or other timelines. It makes as much sense as anything else, and in mine I'm often visiting other realities anyway. But people who don't dream or aren't on the network can't always see or react to the strange happenings around here. This bleedover between one reality and hundreds of others. So if you're noticing more than the cover-up? Chances are you're going to experience it personally. And I'm pretty certain of that, actually."
