Felix had been in Orange County for awhile and until he’d joined Valarnet, he’d never noticed any of the strange things that happened in the county aside from the snow that had happened each December for the last few years, but over the last year he’d witnessed so many strange and disturbing things that by now he almost wasn’t surprised when something happened. The last few days though might have changed that. First it had been raining blood when he and Josh left the party he’d been hired to plan and then there had been lightning storms and tidal waves and a report of some large animal. He had a feeling whatever was going on wasn’t about to end and being the worrywart he was, he checked in on each of his friends, but Josh wasn’t returning his texts, which worried him.
Deciding to check on him in person, Felix headed over to his place, which he’d been at a few times already and reaching Josh’s apartment, he pressed the buzzer and waited.
Josh has not had a great couple of weeks. He keeps dreaming about his sisters going missing. Other things too, like dragging his friends back up to the cabin the next year but mostly it’s just Hannah and Beth on a loop.
So when the fucking apocalypse started, he decided fuck it and called in sick with all his teachers. Most of them had canceled after the lightning started up, anyway, so it’s not like it matters much.
His phone has been buzzing and he knows he should call Felix back, but he doesn’t feel like moving much. He’s kind of vibrating anyway, from the energy drinks he’s been slamming back to keep awake and keep the dreams at bay.
But then someone’s at the door and he forces himself out of bed to go answer it, giving a Felix a wan smile when he sees it’s him.
“Hey handsome. Get inside before locusts or frogs or some shit starts up.”
When the door opened, Felix was relieved to see Josh standing there, “No offense, but you look like shite.” His tone was light and the expression on his face showed that he was clearly worried about the younger man, “Have you gone out since I left Monday morning?” They had gone to Josh’s place after the party Sunday night, because it was easier than Felix bringing him back to his and Sarah’s place, especially cause of Kira. “You doing alright?” Felix wasn’t sure if Josh’s appearance was a result of the things that had been happening that week or the dreams, but considering what Josh had posted about his dreams, it wouldn’t surprise him if that were the case.
“Yeah it hasn’t been great.” His voice cracks and he sounds on the verge of tears, and once Felix is inside Josh wraps around him and clings tight.
“I haven’t slept. It’s too fucked up to sleep right now.”
When Josh wrapped himself around him, Felix brought his arms around and wrapped them around the younger man, one hand coming up to stroke his fingers through his hair, “Believe me, I understand. But you can’t not sleep.” He held Josh close, hoping that he was helping even a little bit, “You’ll only make yourself sick.”
“I mean, probably.” The contact helps. The soft, soothing touches. “I just don’t want to see all that bullshit right now. Not that what’s outside is any better, really. Pick your hell, I guess.”
Felix hated that Josh’s dreams had this sort of affect on him and he wanted to help, “How about I lay down with you? You don’t have to go to sleep, but it might help.” Felix was always trying to help those that he cared about ever since he and Sarah were younger and they’d needed to help each other out at various times. Apparently dream!Felix was the same way except that in most cases the people he was helping were forced upon him at first. In the end though, he’d do anything to help his sestras, as Helena put it.
“Yeah -- yeah okay. That sounds nice.” Already the way Felix is touching him, all gentle fingers and soothing words, is helping.
So he pulls out of the hug only to take Felix’s hand and lead him into his bedroom. Which is a mess, clothes in piles everywhere, bed unmade. He hasn’t had the energy to keep anything clean, the past few days.
“Sorry about -- “ he starts to say, but cuts off with a shrug and crawls back into bed.
This wasn’t the first time that Felix had been in Josh’s room, but the last time he’d been there it definitely hadn’t been as messy as it was now. Not that that really mattered to Felix at the moment. “It’s alright. You should have seen my flat before my sister and niece moved out here.” His old apartment hadn’t exactly been messy, but it had been small and just a little bit cluttered.
Taking off his jacket and boots, Felix crawled into bed behind Josh and promptly wrapped his arms around the younger man’s waist, “And you need to get some sleep eventually, cause I hate to see those pretty eyes of yours all blood shot.”
“You think I have pretty eyes?” he smiles, tiredly, and presses back against Felix. Craving that full body contact.
“It’s funny, when I first saw you in person I was like -- he’s not my type at all. I usually go for guys who are bigger than me. Lumberjack types. But god you’re so pretty, and you’re so sweet, and I really fucking like you.”
“I do,” Josh’s eyes were one of his features that Felix liked best, among others, but his eyes always appeared so open and honest. At least that was the impression that Felix had gotten thus far, “I don’t go for the lumberjack types. Can’t deal with the beards.” He smirked and tangled his legs with Josh’s, “And I’m glad you like me, cause I kind of really like you too.” Felix hadn’t been in a relationship in a while and he didn’t want to assume that they were in one, but this definitely felt different than a simple friends with benefits arrangement, which Felix had had many times.
The comment about beards gets a snort and he shakes his head a little, “Not like that, just, you know. Big and muscular. But this is good. This is really fucking good, actually.” Felix’s arms around him make him feel safe and warm and -- loved, maybe? It’s too early in the game to say that but cared for, that’s what he’ll say.
“What’s a nice guy like you doing with a fucked up kid like me?”
Felix laughed softly and hooked his chin over Josh’s shoulder, “Trust me, I was pretty fucked up not too long ago myself.” Felix’s teenage years hadn’t been the best time of his life and it might not have compared to Josh’s dreams, but he knew all about fucked up. “I’ll tell you about it sometime when you haven’t been awake for days.”
“I’m -- well yeah, okay. We can wait until I’m not totally out of my head crazy to talk about our issues. It’ll be a real great therapy session.” Josh closes his eyes and rubs his hand over Felix’s arms.
“Just tell me you’ll be here when I wake up. And not get upset if I scream.”
“I’m not going anywhere.” Felix hoped that his being there might keep Josh from having any of his dreams. He knew that none of them had any control over when anyone had the dreams, but Felix just wanted Josh to have a couple hours of uninterrupted sleep, because it was obvious that he needed it. “I’ll be right here when you wake up.”
