Vanessa was paying too much attention to the bird to notice Nasir wiping his nose, a part of her convinced that if she took her eyes off the bird it would fly off again. She knew that the doors and windows were all shut so logically there was no way for the bird to get out but nothing about this was logical. She wanted to ask who the voice belonged to but it just didn't seem like the right time to ask.
She didn't believe it at first but then the bird opened it's mouth, and she heard her father's voice come spilling out of it's mouth, criticizing her. She looked away from it, embarrassed and angry both, looking at Nasir in shock. "We got so freaked over a bird."
