Vanessa gave him a small friendly smile back. "The weirdness actually helps with that somehow I think - people seem more willing to help each other out." She gave him a curious look when he mentioned the number of looks on his door, she wasn't super familiar with the street his place was on but she hadn't thought it was that dangerous. She didn't say anything though because it was none of her business. She'd met people in New York who lived in the same apartment building as her dad - doorman, security cameras everywhere, really safe - but they'd still had a ton of locks on their door. It just made them feel safer and that's what home was supposed to feel like wasn't it? "It was bound to be one of us eventually? Isn't that the way it goes?"
Vanessa frowned slightly as she put the pieces together about why he probably shouldn't be hearing his brother's voice, figuring that it probably had more than just distance like her and her sister's. Whoever was responsible for this had some very messed up dreams if her guess was right. "I'm sorry. I can't imagine how hard that must be for you," she said quietly, standing back up and trying to get her car door unlocked.
