"Well at least people are kind here," Nasir said, with a small smile. "But I know how that is. I think my apartment will always make me feel safer. Something about it being home. And also I have like six locks on my door and a baseball bat." He gave her something that might have been a smile, if there also wasn't fear in it. "I probably have. Whoops."
Nasir shook his head, rubbing at his forehead. "My parents and my brother." And HIM, he didn't say, because there were some things she didn't need to know about. No one did. "I haven't heard from my parents in years, and my brother..." He shrugged. "I shouldn't be hearing from him. I think we can safely say that this whole thing is pretty messed up."
