Who: Jeremy Gilbert and Caleb Rivers When: Backdated: Early January Where: Jeremy's Place What: Dream talk and video games Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Jeremy and Caleb had only talked a few times on the net and met once in person, but Jeremy felt like Caleb could be someone he could really be friends with, which was what Jeremy really needed right now, so he had decided to invite him over to hang out. Myrcella and Irisa were gonna be out for awhile so he’d suggested they could play video games and order pizza. He’d given Caleb the address and told him to come by around one.
Caleb was looking forward to hanging out with Jeremy. He didn’t have that many friends around his own age. Most of his friends were either knew him from his old life or were from his dreams. Jeremy was one of the few who didn’t fit into either category. Plus how could he turn down pizza and video games? He arrived at Jeremy’s house just a few minutes after one, ringing the bell and waiting for Jeremy to come to the door.
Hearing the bell, Dragon started barking and ran to the door, tail wagging as he waited for Jeremy to answer it. “Go lay down.” He said to the boxer as he tried to move him away from the door. Jeremy knew that the dog was just excited at the prospect of someone coming over, but he had forgotten to ask Caleb if he had a problem with dogs. Grabbing Dragon’s collar, Jeremy held him back as he opened the door, “Hey, hope you don’t have a problem with dogs. I kind of forgot to ask that before.” He moved aside to make room for Caleb to come in, still holding Dragon back.
Caleb never had a pet himself partly thanks to his previous lifestyle and partly because he didn’t think he could actually keep an animal alive. But he didn’t have a problem with them. “Nah, dogs are cool,” he replied with a shrug before walking inside making a point to reach down and pet the dog. “What’s it name?”
“Dragon.” Jeremy said closing the door behind Caleb as the dog sniffed his hand a moment before licking his fingers, “He’s really friendly. Just excited when new people come over. I think he’s bored of me, Myrcella and Irisa.” Once he was sure that Dragon wasn’t going to jump all over Caleb, Jeremy let go of his collar. “How’ve you been? Any more weird dream gifts?” Jeremy had gotten his fair share of weird dream gifts like his vervain bracelet that he’d given to Myrcella once he’d become a Hunter since he couldn’t be compelled any more.
“Nice to meet you Dragon,” Caleb said giving the dog’s head a pat before straightening back up. “Nope, nothing since the masks. I’ve gotten a few things before that,” he shrugged. “What about you? What kinds of things do you get from the dreams?” From the times they had talked it sounded like Jeremy’s dreams were a bit more intense than Caleb’s.
Jeremy led the way into the living room, “This ring for one.” He said, holding up his hand with the Gilbert family ring on it. It wouldn’t bring him back if something supernatural killed him, because he was technically supernatural now, but he still wore it because it felt right and he didn’t have Matt around in real life to give it to. He could give it to Myrcella, but it was too big for her and he didn’t know if the magic of it would still work if she wore it on a chain or something similar so he had given her the vervain bracelet instead as a precaution just in case Damon or any other vampire tried to compel her. “I also got what’s called a Hunter’s Mark, but it’s gone now.” Unlike with Connor, Jeremy’s hunter’s mark had gone away in the waking world when it had gone away in the dreams after Bonnie used her magic on it to find Silas. “Do you want a drink before we start playing?”
The ring was pretty cool. Caleb didn’t have any jewelry from his dreams, he didn’t really wear any. Just this cuff in his early dreams but he had no clue what happened to that. Closest he got was the masks. “What’s a Hunter’s Mark?” sounded kind of painful but what did Caleb know? “You don’t have to ask me twice. Got any beer?”
“It was like a tattoo that only other hunters could see, but it was mystical so it just showed up. Ended up being a map to a cure for vampirism and it only grew with the more vampires you killed.” Jeremy said as he led the way into the kitchen, which looked out onto the beach as well as the large war tent that Myrcella’s uncle had gotten from his dreams and left when he and his fiance had moved. “Oh yeah, in case I never mentioned it before, there are vampires in my dreams.”
Going to the fridge, Jeremy pulled out two beers.” Sure, he wasn’t twenty one yet, but Jeremy had had a pretty convincing fake ID for awhile now and while he didn’t drink as much as he used to, he still bought a six pack or two on occasion, “Here ya go.”
Yeah that made pretty much no sense. However Caleb was pretty sure if he tried to explain A to anyone who didn’t dream about Rosewood it wouldn’t make sense to them either. “There is a cure for vampirism?” News to him but then he didn’t dream about vampires. “Hanna’s friends with a vampire.” Caleb had met her a few times, she was nice and very perky. “She doesn’t really seem like a vampire though. At least not the ones I imagined growing up. Crazy how this place brings things like that to life.” He paused for a moment walking further into the house, he noticed the large tent outside. Weird. But other than that the view was pretty awesome. “So you hunt vampires?”
Caleb had been drinking since he was like thirteen, even though he was of age now he still had his fake IDs. He knew Jeremy was in college but wasn’t sure of his exact age. He did just figure that everyone at least had a fake though. “Thanks,” Caleb said grabbing the beer and popping off the top. “You guys camp out on the beach?” he asked nodding at the tent.
Drinking was not the only thing Jeremy had done while underage, but he didn’t get high anymore the way he had just before and after his parents had died. He knew where he could get pot if he wanted it, but he didn’t need to do that anymore. When Caleb mentioned the tent, Jeremy shook his head, “Not exactly. I mean, sometimes, but that’s actually her uncle’s. This was his place and when he and his fiance moved, Myrcella was living with them and they let her have the place. Their dreams take place in a sort of medieval time, so that’s actually a war tent.” Jeremy thought it was pretty cool how there were maps and books from Westeros in it. The tent had simply been too much for Renly and Loras to take with them. “That’s a better dream gift than the ones I’ve gotten,” he said with a shrug taking another sip of his beer. “Medieval times sound rough to dream about though. I wouldn’t be able to survive without technology,” he joked but it was honestly true. “So how many vampires are here?” he asked switching back to the previous subject. He wasn’t sure if vampires being real was worse or better than A, but if they were anything like the one he sort of knew than he had a feeling A existing in real life would be a lot worse.
“Yeah, it’s pretty cool.” Jeremy said taking a swig of beer, “I definitely wouldn’t be able to survive without technology. I’ve too attached to my phone and Playstation.” Speaking of which, Jeremy led the way back into the living room and set his beer down on the coffee table as Caleb spoke again, “Um, seven from my dream world, I think.” So far Elena was the only one who had yet to turn, but he knew that it was only a matter of time. “The majority of them are good though. One of my sisters is one of them actually.”
Caleb nodded in agreement following Jeremy to the next room, plopping down on the sofa. “I wouldn’t be making a living either.” Though he knew that basically everyone used technology in some way or another for their job. It was impossible not to this day and age. His was just centered around it. “That’s a lot,” but maybe they weren’t so dangerous if there were at least seven running around and no blood drained bodies (that Caleb knew of at least). “Wait, you hunt your sister?” that sounded complicated.
“You’d have to find some other way to make a living. Maybe a blacksmith.” Jeremy smirked and picked up one of the Playstation controllers, pressing the PS button to turn it on. “No. I actually learned how to control it. Being a Hunter in my dreams means that you have an overwhelming urge to kill vampires and I almost killed our friend Caroline here, before I was able to control it.” In the dreams, controlling his urges meant replacing those feelings of hatred for vampires with his feelings of love for Bonnie, but in the waking world it was his feelings for Myrcella which had helped him gain control over his urges so that he was still able to see Katherine and their friends without wanting to kill them.
“Oh yeah. I’d make an excellent blacksmith,” he laughed at that grabbing the other controller. That was until he heard a name he recognized. There couldn’t be that many other vampire Caroline’s out there, right? “You almost killed Caroline? Hanna’s friend?” Well that was not something he was expecting to hear. “That’s good that you can control it now and not hurt your sister.”
“Caroline Forbes? Yeah. I’ve known Caroline forever.” Elena and Caroline had been friends for as long as Jeremy could remember. “Caroline seems to know everyone.” She was an extremely personable girl and seemed to make friends extremely easily from what Jeremy had seen over the years.
“Yeah. I met her a few times with Hanna. We went out with her and her boyfriend once,” he shrugged. “Are all vampires as nice as her?” Since Jeremy seemed to be an expert, although he had apparently tried to kill her once. He wouldn’t share that with Hanna though, she had enough to worry about with her A dreams.
Jeremy couldn’t help but laugh at that particular question, “No. No, not all vampires are like Caroline. Some are nicer than others. Ever met Damon Salvatore? He’s one of the worst.” While it was true that there were times in the dreams where Damon did the right thing and had actually saved his life when Katherine made him crash his car, Damon had done too many horrible things, both in the dreams and out. Jeremy just couldn't get over those things. “There are others too, but none of the really bad are here.”
The name didn’t ring a bell. But it was clear Jeremy didn’t like the guy and Caleb trusted his word on the matter. He wouldn’t be trying to meet this Damon guy. “Well that’s good to know,” he said about the last comment. At least he didn’t have to worry about vampire attacks. “Now enough about vampires and dream crap. Let’s play some video games.”
