Who: Ed and Ezra When: Early January Where: UCI What: Talking after Ezra's class Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
It was Ed’s second week at school and he’d already gotten lost more times than he could count. He thought he had everything on a mental map-but apparently his mental map had lost connection. All the hallways sort of looked a like. He ended up missing half of Ezra’s class. He got fair grades when it came to English, but they weren’t nearly as striking as his marks for maths and sciences. However what really stood out of course was the fact that he could barely see over some of the other students.
He stayed a little later to finish copying the notes on the board and had shuffled up a bit closer to the classroom. Ed had a bit of an odd style, he looked steam punk in comparison to the others too. Always with his red trench coat no matter what the weather was. He grumbled a bit as his pencil broke in his flurry of writing things down and gave an exasperated sigh. He needed to remember to just bring a tablet next time, maybe he’d he have better luck just recording the lectures…
The beginning of a new semester was always a bit of an adjustment for Ezra. Once he finally learned each and everyone of his students names the semester ended and then he had to learn a whole new batch.
He had just finished teaching one of his English classes. Most students couldn’t wait to leave, all filing out of the room quickly. There was one though that stayed behind. Furiously writing in his notebook, which Ezra assumed was to copy the notes. Ezra didn’t have his name memorized just yet, but he liked the guy’s initiative. That was when he noticed how frustrated the student look. “Everything all right?” Ezra asked as he gathered his own things.
A pair of odd colored golden eyes looked up at the sound of the voice, he hadn’t realized there was anyone still there actually. He’d seen the flood of student bodies leaving and figured he was alone for a bit. “Eh. Stupid pencil broke, and I realized I’m probably not even gonna be able to read all this later” He muttered as he looked over his paper.
“Can I just record you next time? I go through a lot of pencils.” He didn’t explain why they kept breaking, but both his hands were covered with a pair of white gloves that he didn’t really go into detail about.
Ezra didn’t comment on the gloves. Why would he? It wasn’t like he knew what the kids wore these days. Plus commenting on his students fashion wasn’t exactly his thing. “Sure,” Ezra said in response to the student’s question as he walked over to the guy. “Whatever helps,” he wanted his students to succeed in his class after all.
“Really? It wasn’t allowed in high school.” He was a little relieved at that. They’d only recently started letting their students actually utilize their phones as a tool that they were supposed to be initially when Ed left. “I just graduated a couple weeks ago...two years early.” He shrugged like it wasn’t a big thing. Ed liked school, to him it was normal.
Sure the semester had just started but most students started school in the fall. He was surprised this student wasn’t used to how different college was from high school by now. “Really,” Ezra replied with a small smile. And then he went on to explain he had just left high school. Well that certainly explained why he looked so young. “That’s impressive,” Ezra commented. “I take it you don’t care about missing out on all the cliche high school experiences?”
Ed shrugged, he wasn’t trying to brag he was just explaining himself. He really didn’t know all the rules just yet compared to high school. It was a bit of a curve. “My only experience with high school was; if you’re smart you get shit on. I’m pretty done with the high school experience.” Ed said with an exasperated smile.
“Yeah,” Ezra agreed. Granted he had been one of the more popular kids in high school, partly due to his parents money. But he wouldn’t want to go back. “Kids can be shallow,” he shrugged himself. He had to remind himself that they were kids. Especially considering her dated two high school students in the dreams. Sure Alison had lied about her age but the fact still remained the same.
“I was spending more time in detention for fighting and being late than actually getting anything out of it.” Ed shrugged some as he folded up books to push into a backpack that was probably looking heavier than he could lift-sometimes metal limbs were awesome though. He really didn’t struggle with it at all. “Most people learned not to mess with me but there were still a few here and there that would try.”
Obviously the student had to be smart if he managed to get into UCI when it didn’t sound like he was the best student but Ezra chose not to comment on that. “I’m sure college will be better for you.” It didn’t have all the drama that high school did at least. Ezra gathered up the last of his things. “Let me know if there is any way I can help your transition.” That wasn’t necessarily his job but he did like to see students succeed.
Ed really didn’t know what else to say, but he nodded to that. “Thanks. Hopefully. So far nobodies even bothered calling me short, one point college.” He mused though it was likely Ezra didn’t have a clue what he was talking about. He gathered his things and gave him a slight wave before heading home.
