Who: Anna and Vanessa
When: Early February
Where: Vanessa’s Gallery
What: Showing Anna around
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete

“I’m so glad you could come” Vanessa told Anna as she smiled at the girl and welcomed her in, “As soon as we were asked to display some of these pieces I knew there would be interest. I hope this will work well for your assignment” Vanessa had made a number of friends within the OC’s educational community, giving guest lectures and meeting the students was fun and she enjoyed it.

She had found it wasn’t just the art and art history students who attended but also those who were studying social studies, journalism and the more leisure inclined subjects.

Anna was big into art. (Well, obviously, as she was an Art History major.) She couldn’t resist the temptation of a local art gallery! So she headed there on a rare night when she wasn’t swamped with homework or attending a night class.

“It’s going to be perfect!” Anna said, wide-eyed, as she followed the other further into the gallery. “...this is amazing! OMG don’t you just love art??” Then she grinned, sheepishly. “I mean, of course you do. Silly me.”

Vanessa smiled kindly at the girl, “I do indeed love art. I always have, though I lack the creativity to create my own masterpieces, perhaps that is why I appreciate it so much. Do you have a favourite artist or art period?” she asked.

“Maybe the Impressionist era?” Anna said after pondering it for a moment. “I really like Mary Cassat. But I don’t know, I’ve got so many favorites, and for so many reasons!” She grinned again, brightly. “What about you?”

“I’m much the same to be honest” Vanessa said, “I love the old painters of course but a lot of the new up and coming ones have some incredible work. I suppose that is part of what appeals to me about running a gallery, I get to showcase things that speak to me”

“I’d love to learn more about new artists,” Anna said. “I haven’t had a whole lot of chance to study modern art and modern artists. I’d love to go and see an exhibit by Dale Chihuly, for example, though I’ve never had the chance. Now that I’m in college I’m going to make it more of a priority.”

“Oh you definitely should, there is so much talent emerging out there” Vanessa said, “I saw an exhibition of his in Venice, it was amazing” she added, “I hope you get to see one, I am sure you will”

“In Venice?” Anna asked, almost swooning. “I’ve always wanted to travel! Though, I haven’t had much chance, really. I want to go to Venice! I want to go all over the place! I ended up in Paris with my friends last summer, and I’ve been to New Orleans. That’s about it.”

“Travelling is one of the great pleasures in life I think” Vanessa said, “Paris is wonderful, that was where I was working before. I adore Europe but of course I grew up there so it is a lifelong love”

“I grew up right here,” Anna said. She was a little sheepish about it, though, as if it was something to be embarrassed about. “And for eighteen years of my life I never left southern California. I barely left my house.” But now she was free to explore, to go on adventures.

“That is not so unusual though is it. A lot of people haven’t travelled and you are still very young. Who knows where you will end up. Your career could take you all over the world” Vanessa said, after all hers had.

“Well, that’s true.” Anna thought. She could go all over the world looking at new artwork, old artwork, writing about her experiences. Wouldn’t that be an awesome thing to do? She wondered for a moment if that was even really an option. Maybe, maybe not. She just needed to find someone who would pay her to do that sort of thing. “Fingers crossed. Show me the rest of your gallery?”

There were a number of art magazines that paid well for good interesting articles and should Anna wish to take that route Vanessa had no doubt she could make it a success. “Of course” she smiled, “Follow me”
