Who: Yukito and Sakura When: Early February Where: Dorm rooms to the Need/Want What: Following Touya Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Yukito couldn’t help being intrigued by Touya’s new job. His best friend was being very cagey about it all and that was not like Touya, usually he told Yukito what he was doing. In fact back in Japan most of the jobs he’d had he had recommended Yukito for as well. So deciding he needed to know, after all if something happened Yukito should where Touya was supposed to be, he set out to follow him.
When he’d mentioned it to Sakura she had told him she would come too so he was waiting for her on the corner down from their dorms so they could wait for Touya to leave and then follow him.
Sakura had no real reason to want to follow Touya. It simply sounded like it would be an adventure of sorts and if he could make fun of her for things, why shouldn’t she have things on him? Not that she ever would use them or had malicious thoughts about it. But he was her older brother and if he teased her all the time… Really, she had no idea why Yukito would need to follow Touya for information, but it was always good to have a partner for it.
Things weren’t bad anymore and beyond dreams, Sakura was in a good mood as she usually was. No feelings of unease or worry. Just school and getting ready for cheerleading tryouts. Energetic as ever, she rounded the corner and smiled brightly as she found her current partner in crime for Operation Touya’s Secret.
“Hi, Yukito-niisan!”
“Sakura-chan” he greeted her, giving her a hug as usual and smiling, “Thank you for helping me out. I think we should have fun playing detectives” he told her. Normally he wouldn’t have involved her but he’d noticed she had been out of sorts for a little bit and had wanted to offer her a distraction. Though she seemed to be much better now, more like her normal self.
Usually Yukito wouldn’t be so nosey but Touya’s reluctance to talk about his job had peaked his interest and he knew he had to satisfy it. Thankfully Sakura hadn’t minded going along with it.
“Me too!” Because who didn’t want to play detective? Especially when the subject was a mean older brother who was being oddly secretive about his new job apparently. Very suspicious. Definitely warranted investigation. Clearly.
“I’m not too late?” She didn’t think so. Yukito didn’t seem to think they suddenly needed to be on the move, so that meant (probably) that Touya had yet to leave for this mystery job. Really, given the fact it seemed her brother had a new job in every single dream, it was rather hard to figure out what sort of job he might have.
“Not at all Sakura-chan” Yukito assured her, “Touya has not left for work yet, he should be going in about five minutes” He’d checked Touya’s schedule on their shared calendar and knew when he had work.
“How are you getting along in school?” he asked her, figuring they could catch up until Touya emerged and they started following him.
“Okay, good.” Because Sakura wouldn’t want to be why they lost Touya before they could properly investigate this. Then again, she had made sure to leave early and she also had done her best to keep a fast pace. Just in case. But one could never be too certain, especially in this place she was learning.
“It’s going okay.” She hadn’t made any friendships like the ones back home, not yet. But Sakura was always friendly to her fellow classmates, and if they were making fun of her or mean, she had yet to realise it. “English is still hard but not as bad as before.”
Yukito knew that Sakura would arrive in time, she wasn’t the sort to be late unless there was a very good reason.
“I am glad to hear that and I am sure English will get easier as you go” he assured her, Sakura was a smart girl and he was sure she would make friends soon. Good ones too.
Hunting Clow Cards could make her late, or mostly just tired. But she really only did that in the Dreams. It wasn’t like she’d had any real need for them here. Mostly. She had tried Windy and then Shadowy when the fog was here but they hadn’t worked. It worried her. But everything had worked out so it was okay.
“I think so too!”
And then she noticed Touya seeming to lock up from her vantage. Maybe he was leaving early? Or was he suspicious?! No. Probably leaving early.
Yukito didn’t know that Sakura had tried out the clow cards here, in the dreams he didn’t really know what was going on or that she was hunting the cards so it was strange to know more about it in the waking world. But it made it more fun to watch himself be clueless. Touya always seemed to know what was going on.
“Oh there he is. Okay detective, are you ready?” he grinned at Sakura.
Given what she had seen with the strange fog, Sakura had to wonder if there would be other times where she might need to use the Clow Cards, preferably with success, but she was going to be ready. Just in case. They kept appearing when she dreamt of them and it wouldn’t make sense if she couldn’t use them. But they weren’t really necessary for when it came to playing detective with Yukito.
“Un!” Nodding enthusiastically, Sakura made sure to keep a focused gaze on her brother. While imaginative, anything she came up with didn’t fit for the keeping the job secret. So she wouldn’t be able to come up with theories for now. Oh well, that was why they were investigating!
They followed Touya at a good distance, luckily since they knew him so well he was easy for them to spot which allowed them to keep back and not be noticed. Not that Touya was expecting to be followed of course, Yukito imagined it would not even cross his mind.
He hoped it wasn’t too far, he’d feel terrible if he made Sakura walk for ages just to find out he was working at a restaurant or something. But then he’d never have kept that a secret.
If Touya were aware of them following him, he didn’t seem to acknowledge it. But there was also no reason for him to suspect so it didn’t matter. Even if staying behind a good bit was necessary on the off chance he heard something or looked over.
Bouncing some as they walked as she was excited for the bit of detective work they were do, Sakura noticed her brother turn to a building and she blinked in confusion. She knew what the words need and want meant. But she didn’t understand the way it was phrased. Also the people walking in were very interestingly dressed.
“What do people need and want?” Tilting her head to the side, Sakura turned her attention to Yukito. “Is it food? They’re dressed…” Sakura couldn’t quite find the word for how it seemed some of the people walking in and out were dressed. Fancy for some of them though.
As soon as Touya turned into the building Yukito realised that bringing along Sakura was definitely a bad idea. He’d talk to Touya later, seriously because Yukito could not imagine what Touya was doing in that place but right now getting Sakura out of there was priority.
“You know what let’s go get ice cream, there was a place that looked nice back up here, yes?” he said with a smile turning them and heading back the way they had come.
And now Sakura was even more confused. Before it was just playing detective with Yukito because Touya was being secretive. Now Yukito was changing his mind right as they seemed to have uncovered and acting secretive himself. “Ara?” Blinking, she looked between Yukito and the Need/Want, trying to piece together just why he was suddenly suggesting ice cream.
Not that there was anything wrong with ice cream. Ice cream was great. But this was just… peculiar.
“Are you sure?”
“Uh huh, now we know where Touya works we need a treat for being good detectives” he told her keeping up that calm smile somehow. There was no way he was taking Sakura into that place, he’d heard all sorts of things about places like that. Things which made him wonder what Touya was thinking.
Well, if that was the extent of what they were investigating… It made sense to Sakura anyway. She wasn’t the most perceptive of people or things. She just believed the best in people so such a place was strange but as she didn’t know the specifics, she figured it didn’t matter all that much. As mean as Touya was, she trusted him.
“Okay then!”
Yukito smiled and ruffled her hair a little affectionately, “Come on then, my treat of course” he added, very glad Sakura was such a sweet and trusting girl. It made it much easier when she took his word and didn’t question things too much.
Grinning up at Yukito, Sakura turned in the way they had come from, skipping and turning to skip backwards in order to talk to him. “Where are we going? I found a new ice cream place and its really really good.” And they were close to it, which was even better.
“Then let’s go there” Yukito said, “Exploring new places sounds like fun and if it’s really good then that is even better”
