Pietro was back to full time training now that the holidays were over and between that, his job and classes he was leading a fairly busy life. Wanda was still being amazing and making sure they ate properly which he was very thankful for though he did worry she wasn’t getting out of their apartment enough.
Coming in from the gym, hair freshly washed he put his gym kit into the washing machine and headed to the living room, “Still working?” he asked his sister when he noticed her at the laptop.
Wanda barely heard Pietro coming in the front door. She was focused on studying for her next class and when she did, she usually blanked everything out. She could forget to eat sometimes and it would only be when Pietro came in to remind her that she would remember.
Hearing his voice, she looked up in surprise and smiled, tucking some of her long behind her ear. “Oh, hi,” she replied, turning her eyes back to the computer screen and making sure her essay was saved before she got up. Being careful not to jostle the books and papers laid open around her, Wanda unwound her legs that had been folded up beneath her. “Did you have a good morning?” she asked him, moving to the kitchen to make some tea for them.
“Morning? Wanda it is gone five o’clock, I have been away most of the day” Pietro told her, “Have you forgotten to eat again?” he asked her, “We should order in, something filling. We do not want you to waste away” he told her ruffling her hair as she moved around their little kitchen.
“I…” Wanda frowned, puzzled and looked at the kitchen clock as she followed him in there. Realising he was right and she’d missed lunch again she looked back at him apologetically. “Oops,” she smiled sheepishly, tucking more hair behind her ear as she rested a hand on the back of one of their kitchen stools. “I can still make something for us, no need to spend money on take-out,” she offered, moving over to the fridge to look inside at what they had available.
“Can you make a meal out of one egg, mouldy cheese and yoghurt?” he asked her as she looked in the fridge, “I think we need to brave the supermarket soon. but for today takeout” he insisted, they didn’t do it that often. Wanda kept him better fed than she did herself.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t realise or I would have gone out,” Wanda apologised, looking at the practically bare fridge. Where had the day gone? She’d sworn she’d only made her morning cup of tea an hour ago, yet here she was in the late afternoon with nothing to make for dinner and belatedly realising that she was hungry for having missed lunch. “So, what sort of take-out should we have dear brother? My treat for not having anything ready for dinner,” she volunteered.
“It does not matter” Pietro told her, “I did not realise either or I could have gone on my way home. Tomorrow we shall go together yes?” he smiled. “What would you like? Thai?” knowing it was one of her favourites.
“I would like that,” Wanda smiled at his suggestion of shopping together. “Thai sounds wonderful brother,” she admitted, already thinking about getting back to her work. She had an essay to write and she wanted to get it done as soon as possible so it didn’t interfere with her work for Mr Haymitch. Unable to stop herself from casting a quick glance over her shoulder at the paperwork still strewn on the couch and table around her laptop. “Would you like a drink?” she asked, moving to the cupboard with the glasses in it. If she got a long drink of juice, she might be able to subtly return to the couch while he ordered their food.
“I’d like you to stop thinking about work” Pietro said catching the look she cast at her papers, “You are ahead in all your classes, you put in more hours at work than you’re supposed to and you look after your loving brother. You do too much Wanda” he told her, moving to wrap an arm around her and press a kiss to her head.
Wanda smiled as Pietro pulled her close. It was a long standing argument between them. She worked too hard and he berated her. “You know how it is brother, you can’t stay top if you stop studying,” she tried to rationalise. “Besides, what would I do? You know I can’t run with you, especially now,” she smiled.
“You do not need to stop, just take it easy a little. Find an interest of your own” Pietro said, “I could take you running with me, faster than the speed of light baby sister?” he grinned at her.
“So you can show off?” Wanda looked at him knowingly. “I think not,” she grinned, slapping him on the arm as she laughed. “Besides, the only thing I am really good at is studying, what would I do for an interest?”
“Only a little” Pietro admitted, “I could always carry you when it got too much” he winked as she slapped him. “That is not true, you are good at many things. If you could do anything what would you do?”
“Anything?” Wanda considered, leaning on the back of one of their kitchen chairs. She tilted her head and considered it. “If money was not a problem? I don’t know really, I have always liked to fly…” she ventured with a little smile. “And dancing, I would like to learn to dance one day,” she smiled sadly. Unfortunately they were both expensive pursuits and she knew that until they were finished with their studies they would be unlikely to be able to afford it.
“You know there is a dancefit class at the gym i work at, you could try that?” Pietro suggested, maybe not exactly what she was looking for but it would get her out and away from her books for a while. And she could learn to move to the music a little.
Wanda considered the suggestion briefly. “You know what brother, I like that idea,” she grinned at him. “When do they meet? Do you think I need any special clothes or shoes to do it?” she asked.
Pietro grinned, “I will book you onto the next class” he told her before shaking his head, “The trainers and clothing you wore when we went running will be fine”
“Thank you,” Wanda grinned and hugged him gratefully. “You really are the best brother ever,” she sighed against him and rested her head on his shoulder. It was nice to have someone always there to look out for her.
