Who: Myrcella and Scott When: Mid January Where: Veterinary surgery What: A visit to the vets Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Even though Myrcella knew that this was only a routine appointment for a vaccination she was still a little nervous. Dragon didn’t seem the littlest bit bothered but then he didn’t really understand where he was going. He never seemed to remember what happened at the vets, but then he’d never minded being mauled around or injected so even if he did remember he still probably wouldn’t mind.
Entering with him happily at her heels she smiled at the receptionist, “Myrcella Baratheon with Dragon” she said so the girl could book them in.
The receptionist checked her in and showed her where to sit, then a few minutes later, Scott McCall, who was working that day, came out, smiling. “Myrcella and Dragon? I’m ready for you now.” he was a veterinary assistant, and he had come to work there in order to make money to keep going to school, to get his veterinary technician’s license.
He led the way back to one of the rooms. “How are you both doing today?” Animals usually liked him a lot, but lately they had liked him a little less.
Dragon was curious and bouncy and as long as Scott was nice to him and Myrcella he would be fine. “I think he’s doing better than me” Myrcella admitted, “I always worry too much. My boyfriend offered to come instead but then I’d worry more at home” her smile was rueful and accepting.
Scott smiled, offering his hand for the sniffing, then nodded to the boy. “A good boy.” He smiled at Myrcella, offering her his hand as well. “It’s okay. This is for routine vaccinations, right? The every three year ones?” He had checked her chart, but it was always best to make sure before you did anything, because, well, mistakes happened.
Myrcella nodded, “Yeah that’s right. I guess I’m just like an overprotective mum” she said stroking Dragon as he nudged her leg, “He’s my baby” Knowing it sounded strange but sure that as a vet he must have heard it before.
Scott smiled at her and the way she treated her dog. He had seen a lot worse in his time. She showed honest love, which was good. “It’s okay. You take care of him, and he of you. That’s how family works.” Which was something he believed in. He gently examined the dog, and finding nothing amiss, nodded.
“Alright. I’ll get the vaccinations ready. Just keep him relaxed, and it won’t take long at all.”
He moved over to one side of the room, preparing the syringes used to push the vaccines into the dog.
Myrcella was glad he hadn’t told her she was crazy, it was nice. And that he understood Dragon was part of her family.
Myrcella knelt down with Dragon to give him some fuss and the dog lay on the floor and presented his belly to her for rubbing, he really was a big softy.
Looking over at the vet she asked, “Are you new to the surgery?” she hadn’t seen him before she was almost sure.
“Yeah. Well, not completely. I’ve sat in, helped, and even taken point when the others were here, a bunch, but this week is my first on point myself, with some basic cases.” Scott felt confident in what he knew. He loved animals and helping them.
Coming back over to the table, Scott smiled. “Now, I’ll just need you to hold him still. It’s one shot for this one, okay?” He gently ruffled the dog’s fur, before sliding on his gloves and prepping the needle.
“Oh how wonderful” Myrcella said, “This is a lovely practice. And I would never have guessed it was your first time leading, you seem very confident” she told him.
Nodding she took hold of Dragon as best she could, the dog seemed content to give her a hug and nuzzled his head into her before sitting still.
Scott flushed, then smiled to her “Thanks! I love my work, Animals are so cool, you know. They really give back what you give to them.” he kept talking gently, calmly, as he lined up the spot, cleaned it, then injected Dragon. He wasn’t an expert, but he was good at something this simple, and it was done fast. He checked the spot to make sure of no bleeding, then pet Dragon’s fur gently.
“There you go, guy. Good boy.’
“They do I completely agree. I’d be completely lost without him now” Myrcella agreed, as her dog took the injection with very little fuss.
“Good boy Dragon, clever boy” Myrcella told him receiving a lick in return, “And thank you...oh I didn’t get your name” she said.
Scott smiled, stripping off the gloves and tossing them and the syringe into containment. “Scott, Scott McCall. Nice to meet you, Dragon’s owner.” His eyes danced as he grinned. “Now just have him rest for a bit today, and he should be fine.”
“Nice to meet you Scott and thank you very much” she said holding out her hand, “I’m Myrcella. I’ll no doubt pamper him a little for the rest of the day. He knows he has me wrapped around his paw”
“Nice to meet you, Myrcella.”
Scott chuckled. “That’s alright. He was a brave guy today. And I’m sure you take good care of him. He’s in good shape!” In fact, he was impressed. He saw a lot of animals, and a lot of people just pampered their animals too much.
“Well, if anything comes up, let me know, okay?” He grabbed his card, from a nearby shelf and handed it over. “That’s my number here, and my cell, in case of emergency. I’m one of the on call responders for, well, most things.” He grinned, abashedly.
Myrcella was careful not to over treat after all she loved Dragon too much to risk his health by letting him get too fat.
“Thank you so much. You’ve been so lovely” she told him smiling, she would definitely let the practice know that he had been so great. He was an asset they should hang onto in her opinion.
