Yukito was excited to be starting his new classes, it had made sense not to when he arrived before Christmas after all there had only been a few days left and he had been given reading in order to catch up over the holidays.
Currently he was waiting for Touya’s class to finish so they could get lunch together but he knew it wouldn’t be for a while yet. It seemed that some days their classes didn’t line up so there was a lag of up to thirty minutes when one or the other of them would have to wait for the other. But Yukito didn’t mind especially now that the weather wasn’t so cold.
Anna was carrying a stack of books that might have been bigger than she was. It was ungainly, awkward, and near impossible for the girl to see where she was going. Unfortunately, her shoe caught on the smooth linoleum floor of the hallway, and Anna tripped. She tumbled forward, all of the books falling from her arms, and then Anna fell down on top of them with a little squeal of pain.
Yukito, being a gentleman, rushed to help the girl as soon as he saw her fall. “Oh dear, are you alright, Miss?” he asked her in concern, gently laying a hand on her arm. “That was quite the fall and with all these books too”
Anna nodded, now a little more embarrassed than in pain. She carefully climbed up to a sitting position, making sure she wasn’t seriously injured… which she wasn’t, of course. Just her ego. Then she checked to make sure the books weren’t torn or ripped or anything. And they seemed fine, too.
“Yeah… I’m okay.” Anna reached forward to start collecting the books. They’d made an impressive splatter arrangement on the floor when she’d fallen. “Just getting ready for the semester, and… I may have taken on too many classes.”
She needn’t be embarrassed, he was just glad she wasn’t seriously hurt. That could have been quite the nasty accident had she landed wrong.
Yukito moved to pick up the books too, “Here let me help” he said with a smile, “Perhaps you simply need a nice strong bag to carry them in. That may help you as well. May I ask what you are studying?”
Relieved, Anna breathed out a gush of air that seemed to take some weight off of her shoulders. She gave him a gentle, sheepish, “thanks,” and moved to pick up the rest of the books. “I thought I had one, but… well, I guess they don’t make them like they used to!” She grinned playfully, then held up one of the books. It said “Art History” across the front. “Art History is my major, but I’m adding a journalism minor, I think. What are you studying?”
Yukito chuckled, “Or maybe they’re making the books heavier” he suggested with a grin of his own. “Oh how wonderful. I’m afraid I don’t know much about art” he admitted, “I’m here on a languages scholarship so languages and linguistics”
“Probably. I mean, have you lifted some of these? Wait, of course you have. Sorry,” she said, giving him a bright, sheepish grin. “And thanks,” she added, shoving more books into her pile, into her broken backpack, into her arms. “Oh wow! That’s really cool! I’m taking Spanish this year. It’s sort of my first attempt at a foreign language ever.”
“I definitely don’t have as many as you to take around” Yukito said, “I am not great at spanish but if you need any help then I would be happy to give that a try. I do know a few tricks for learning things”
“Wow! That’s so nice of you! I mean, it’s so much like, latin-based… if you speak Italian or something, it’s comparable. I just thought it would be good to know, considering how close we live to Mexico.” Anna said, smiling warmly. “I should probably give you my email address, then! For tutoring and whatever.”
“Of course, I mean you would be helping me too. I always worry because English is not my first language. Sometimes my speech is stilts? No, stilted” he corrected with a sheepish smile, “That would be good, my name is Yukito Tsukishiro”
Anna couldn’t help but smile at his mixing up of words. She didn’t mind it, Anna was patient and kind. “It’s nice to meet you, Yukito, I’m Anna Arendelle,” she said, and offered up her hand. Well, awkwardly, as she was still carrying a big load of books. “Just walk with me to this next classroom and I’ll grab some paper to give you my email address.”
Yukito was fairly good but sometimes when he overthought things he messed up. “Lovely to meet you Miss Arendelle” he said shaking her hand before nodding, “Of course, let me carry some of those for you?” he offered holding out his hands for some of her books.
“Thank you,” Anna said, and handed over a few of the books to lighten her load. “I really need to figure out a better way of carrying all my things around campus.” Together, the pair moved along the hallway to the next open classroom, and Anna found a desk to set her things down.
Once they had exchanged details Yukito excused himself so he would not be late for lunch with Touya but he was excited to have made a new friend.
