Caroline really did miss her roommates. There was a reason she lived with the three of them. She actually liked spending time with them. So yes coming home needed to happen. Especially when a snowball fight was the plan.
“I’m home!” Caroline called loudly as she entered the house. Stefan and Lexi would have no trouble hearing her even if she was quiet. She only really needed to be loud for Anna. “Let’s throw some balls,” as in snowballs but she was still smirking at the sentence.
Lexi was in the kitchen, sipping a mug of hot chocolate when she heard Caroline come in and within seconds she was in the same room as Caroline, “Wait a minute, who are you again? I don’t remember you.” She couldn’t not tease Caroline about her lack of being around. Of course she was happy that Caroline was happy, but she had missed her friend and roomie. “Guys, I think we have an intruder!” She called, knowing that Stefan at least would hear her.
Stefan practically appeared behind Lexi, right as she was speaking. He grinned, moving to lean against the doorway, and nonchalantly slipped his hands into his pockets, his feet crossing at the ankle as he watched the two blondes in his life. “I think I have a vague recollection of who this stranger might be.” He smirked, eyes twinkling with mirth.
Of course, Anna was late to the party. The only human to live in their house, she was a bit slower to arrive to the kitchen. She was jogging toward them, grinning brightly. “Hey! Oh my God, it’s you! I’d nearly forgotten what you looked like!”
“Shut up!” Caroline replied laughing with a dramatic eye roll. “You keep treating me like this I’m never going to come home again,” she was teasing of course. She did love her roommates, they were some of her closest friends. She would never stay away too long. New relationship or not. “Now let’s stop ganging up on Caroline and go take advantage of the snow. I was promised a snowball fight!”
Lexi wasn’t the least bit surprised when Stefan showed up behind her and she smirked a little wider as both Stefan and Anna teased Caroline right along with her, “Technically, we can still gang up on you out there too.” Considering it had snowed the last few years, Lexi had quite the snow wardrobe despite the fact that the snow had only lasted a month or less the last few years.
“Now, I know that’s a lie,” Stefan said, pointing a finger at Caroline in a playful way. “Your clothes live here. Or, the majority of them. Also, we have a brand new washer and dryer, so there’s that.” How could Caroline live without her wardrobe? She’d have to come home eventually to get spare clothes. And wash her clothes. Because coin-op laundromats in Orange County? Gross.
“I’m with Lexi on this one,” Anna added, lifting a hand as if asking a question in a crowded classroom. “But can I make a vote that we don’t gang up on the human? The super speed stuff is really no match for my clumsiness.”
“Are you trying to bribe me with a washing machine?” Caroline had to laugh at that. But Stefan was right, she couldn’t go too long without her clothes. And dirty clothes were so not an option. Not the point though.
“Of course we won’t gang up on you,” she assured Anna. That really wouldn’t be fair. Besides it seemed like everyone was against her at the moment but that so was not her plan. “Now come on!” she grabbed Lexi’s wrist and started leading everyone back out of the house so they could get to it.
“Unless you’re planning on gradually moving all your clothes to your new boyfriend’s house.” Lexi said it without thinking and even after saying it didn’t even really realize she’d said it around Stefan and Anna. Besides, how was she to know that Caroline hadn’t already told them? And even if she hadn’t their two roommates had to have assumed she had been at a guy’s place. Unless they thought she was sleeping at school, there weren’t very many other options other than her mother’s.
As she was dragged towards the door, she reached out for her jacket that was hanging nearby.
Anna was relieved when Caroline assured her they wouldn’t be ganging up on her. She had finals coming up, and the last thing she needed was to catch a cold from melted snowballs down her parka! Speaking of, she grabbed it from the closet and pulled it on. “Time’s ticking. I’ve only got an hour.”
“Yes.” Stefan said to Caroline. “And it’s working.” He picked himself up off the wall and moved to follow after Lexi and Caroline, grabbing his own jacket.
They all moved outside into the cold where the snow was actually starting to stick. They’d have to scrape it from the grass, but there was definitely enough to start making snowballs.
Caroline was not planning on moving anything to Peeta’s place. The blood bags were more than enough. She didn’t care that Lexi had blurted that tidbit out either. She hadn’t exactly told her other roommates yet, at least not officially but it was pretty obvious that there was someone new in Caroline’s life. She didn’t stay at her mom’s that much. “Yeah, that won’t be happening anytime soon.”
Since Caroline had just arrived home she was still in her coat. “More to life than finals!” Caroline reminded her friend again. Once they were all outside she grabbed some snow and packed it into a snowball hurling it at Stefan. “It might take more than a washing machine!”
Either the others hadn’t heard what Lexi said or they were ignoring it, either way, Lexi wasn’t going to continue teasing Caroline about her new boyfriend just yet. “How about three roommates who miss you?” She asked, putting her coke on once they were outside, “Will that keep you around more?”
“I can make cupcakes! Cupcakes, roommates and a washing machine!” Anna cried out, dashing over to the side of the yard so she could start collecting snow. She wanted to roll it into a big ball and make a snowman, though she’d never done anything like that before. She’d only been in the snow a couple of times over the last couple years of her life, so it was all still new to her.
Stefan turned and was about to say something in response when Caroline’s snowball made contact with the side of his face. He gave a little splutter, lifting his hands to wipe the cold and ice from his skin. Then he ducked down and grabbed a handful to compact and send back at Caroline.
“I feel like I should keep holding out. See what else you guys try to bribe me with,” she teased back. “But of course you guys are enough!” she added sincerely her eyes on Lexi at the moment just as the snowball from Stefan hit her in the back of the head. “Hey!” she protested even though she had already hit Stefan with a snowball. “Lexi help me out here,” she said to the other blonde vampire as she prepared another snowball to throw at Stefan.
As she saw Anna rush over to start making a larger snowball, Lexi had the urge to ask if Anna wanted to build a snowman, but she resisted. It was simply too easy. Instead she brought her attention back to Caroline and smirked, “I think I can do something.” Using her vampire speed to her advantage, she scooped up a handful of snow and shoved it down the back of Stefan’s jacket.
“Ack!” Stefan coughed, recoiling as the wet, cold snow dribbled down his back. He shuddered and shrugged, and then used some of his own vamp speed to collect a rather large snowball and chuck it at Lexi. He was outnumbered, though, he knew. And he couldn’t actually attack Anna with snow. That was just bad form--to attack someone with snow that you’d already attacked with fangs?
Anna started to roll some of the snow into a giant ball--as best she could, anyway. Anna had been born and raised in Orange County, and the only experiences she’d ever had with snow were … the weirdness. She was trying to figure out how to build a snowman… but didn’t know very well how to do it. “...Hey! Come here and help me! I want to build Olaf!”
She had to admit ganging up on Stefan was fun. She could definitely come home more for that. “Nice one!” she said to Lexi with a laugh before throwing one more snowball at Stefan. And then it was off to help Anna. “All right all right,” she rolled up some snow to add to Anna’s snowman. “You’re the Olaf expert though. I’ve only seen the movie.”
Lexi laughed as Stefan’s snowball just narrowly missed her. Being a vampire definitely had some perks. “You’re gonna have to do better than that if you want to hit me.” She stopped running near Anna and Caroline, “I see pictures of Olaf practically everyday. Does that make me a co-expert?”
“Absolutely!” Anna said. She loved being surrounded by her best friends, building a snowman on a snowy day. The mood was light and loving, and Anna couldn’t be happier.
