Sakura didn’t know what to make of the dream she had woken up from. All she knew was that she felt upset, sad, like maybe he was right and she had no business going after the Clow Cards even though Kero had chosen her for it. Whatever it was, the fourteen year old didn’t like it and was most assuredly not going to let it bother her. Nope. So it was smile and go about her day like nothing was wrong. Even if it wasn’t quite as bright a smile as usual.
In the afternoon, Sakura decided to make snacks for her dad since he was busy with a project and not going to be home much for the next couple of days. Helping him would make her feel better. She was good at that. She didn’t feel doubt about it. Sakura really didn’t like how the dream feelings continued to linger so she ignored them because then people would worry about her and they didn’t need to.
“Hoe…” And she had made too much. No matter! She could go visit Touya and Yukito and bring them the remaining food! Yes! So packing up the three bentos, Sakura pulled on her roller blades and made her way to campus. First, her dad’s office which some students helped her to find and next to finding the dorm Touya and Yukito lived in, or were going to? Sakura wasn’t sure if it had Touya had moved yet or not. No matter. Destination reached, Sakura readjusted the bentos, as well as her roller blades since she’d taken them off once at her dad’s office, then knocked.
Yukito was in their dorm room, Touya being off at his part time job which was as usual as it had been in Japan. Yukito had yet to find a job, though he was tutoring those who needed help when he could and was called on.
Answering the door he smiled brightly, “Sakura-chan, it’s so good to see you” he said before ushering her inside, “How are you? Touya is out right now, I’m sorry. He would have loved to see you”
“Hi, Yukito-niisan!” Oh. No Touya. Which wasn’t shocking. He always had some sort of part time job. Back home. In the dreams (Sakura was beginning to wonder if he really did work everywhere), and now here. “Oh. Well, that’s okay!”
Following him into the dorm room, she looked around some before turning her attention back to Yukito. “I’m okay,” Not a lie, she was okay. Distracted, but okay. “I made dad a snack because he’s busy so I brought some for you and Touya-niichan.” And then she realised that she was speaking in Japanese and flushed, shaking her head. “Hoe...I should have said all of that in English.” After all, if she wanted to get a better grasp of the language, she needed to use it whenever possible. But it was just easy to slip back into Japanese around her family, which Yukito was apart of as far as she was concerned.
Yukito had automatically done the same, despite being here on a languages scholarship when he was around Touya and Sakura the Japanese automatically came first.
“Thank you, Touya and I appreciate that. It’s just like at home with you making us tasty treats” Yukito said with a smile, “Don’t worry Sakura-chan, you will get better at it very easily now you are here” he assured her. After all other than the family she would need to speak English with everybody else.
“He’ll just insult it.” Because Touya was mean like that. Which was why Sakura just pouted at the mention of her brother. Not that it ever stopped her from making treats for them, but it wouldn’t be Sakura and Touya if there weren’t insults and sulking and bickering involved in some shape or another. “Ne, you think so?”
That cheered her up, at least about the initial embarrassment at forgetting she should have been trying to speak in English despite being around Yukito at the moment. That was something she knew she could do.
“You know your brother loves everything you make for us, he always eats and enjoys it” Yukito told her, though he had to admit that their sibling banter was really very cute. Even if Touya did grumble whenever Yukito mentioned his sister complex.
“Of course I think so, and I am here to help you” Yukito added, knowing that of them all he was the one most used to speaking the language and the strange nuances of it.
There was one reason and one reason only Sakura believed what Yukito was saying and that was she knew he wouldn’t lie to her. She still found it hard to believe though given the constant bickering between the two. Same as the dreams, some things never changed but it was normal so while she would get annoyed or angry in the moment, it never lasted.
“That’s because your secret power is seeing him when he’s not being mean.” Just like Sakura’s invincible spell was that everything would surely be all right. She believed in it, and it was why despite the lingering feelings of doubt from that morning, she felt that things would work out, at least here.
“I know, thank you! There are still a lot of words that I don’t know, but I will work very very hard and make sure not to bother you too much.” Because he had university work to worry about, she could handle being confused in class and she still got very confused by conversations that happened on the network sometimes, though she tended to just brush those aside because it wouldn’t do any good to worry about it if she didn’t understand.
Yukito laughed at that, “I am lucky” he replied, it wasn’t really a secret power but Yukito kind of liked the idea that it was. And that Sakura believed so.
“You can ask me anything as much as you like. You are never a bother” Yukito assured her, he never wanted her to think she couldn’t come to him, or Touya, if she needed them. “Now why don’t you tell me what is actually bothering you Sakura-chan?” Because Yukito was observant especially when it came to those he loved.
“Very lucky!” It was totally a superpower being able to see Touya when he wasn’t mean. Yukito might not think so, but it was.
“Thank you.” Of course she would on things that weren’t so troubling, but things she herself didn’t understand? Or that would worry them? That Sakura didn’t like doing and she already felt bad about what had happened with the sleepwalking. So when Yukito then asked what was wrong, her eyes widened and she waved her hand in front of her face as she shook her head. “Eh?! Nothing’s bothering me.” Not really. She just couldn’t shake the feeling. And she hadn’t even zoned out this time about the strange flashes she sometimes got about Tokyo Tower. Which had happened again in the dream, only before she had met Li-kun.
“Something isn’t right, Sakura-chan’s smile is not quite as true as it should be” Yukito said gently, he could always tell when she tried to make out she was alright. Sakura worried too much about worrying others and Yukito wished she would share more things with them. Or at least one of them.
Flushing slightly, Sakura looked down. She didn’t really know what to say. She didn’t know if Yukito was having the dreams, not that he really was aware of everything that was happening them regardless even if he was in them. Which. Awkward as she’d gotten over her crush years ago. But she also wasn’t a good liar and she didn’t like lying, she just… brushed things off and tried to keep others from worrying. “I just haven’t been sleeping well and my dreams have made me miss Tomoyo-chan. It’s nothing to worry about, I promise.”
She did miss her best friend. Even if she was doing her best to make friends at her new school, she missed Tomoyo even if she was a bit strange with her desire to film her all the time. But it was just Tomoyo-chan being Tomoyo-chan. But to her, that was all it was. Beyond the lingering feelings. Strange dreams that didn’t give her much rest and missing her best friend. Completely normal. Well as normal as dreams could be when she received Clow Cards in the book whenever she dreamt of capturing a new one.
Yukito had yet to have the dreams, though it would no doubt be soon. It seemed to be the theme around here after all, he hadn’t been here long and he’d already noticed that pattern. “Oh Sakura-chan I am sorry” he said, “I am sure Tomoyo-chan is missing you as well. Do you speak to her regularly?” he asked, knowing that if anybody would know how to use skype it would be Tomoyo.
“Are you having unusual dreams?” he asked her, he’d meant to ask Touya the same question but kept forgetting.
People talked about the dreams a lot, and it seemed a lot of them were bad. At least from what Sakura had been able to pick up. Hers weren’t bad, exhausting sometimes but not bad. They were even exciting the few she’d had beyond the lingering images and then the latest one.
“Not as often as we would like but we do get to talk to one another.” The time difference made it difficult but Tomoyo had shown her Skype before she had left so that they could try to speak to one another. But with a seventeen hour time difference between Orange County and Tomoeda, it took a lot of planning. Then there were email conversations but it wasn’t the same.
“I guess they’re unusual? I don’t know. Nothing like what people talk about with the bad things. Do you?”
Yukito knew the time difference was fairly large but he hoped they managed to work out a schedule so they could talk regularly. And email was a pretty good backup form of communication even if it wasn’t ideal. It might help ease them missing each other.
“Not yet no, but people I’ve gotten to know do. They say they’re more vivid than normal dreams, do they feel like that Sakura-chan?” he asked.
It was something at the very least, and Sakura was grateful for it. But with Tomoyo in the dreams and how real they felt, it was always a bit of a let down when she would wake up and remember her best friend wasn’t actually there with her. Sakura got by though. She just.. missed her.
Hearing that Yukito didn’t have the dreams, she nodded some then contemplated the question about how the dreams felt. About how they were more vivid.
“Yeah, they do.” Plus Kero-chan and the Book of Clow and sealing wand, which she wore as a necklace when she didn’t need to use it. Those she didn’t know if she should talk about, even if this wasn’t like the dreams. She tilted her head to the side some in though. “They’re very strange but I don’t mind them. I just feel tired sometimes after them.”
Yukito knew it wouldn’t be the same but it was something and he hoped it would get easier for Sakura as she made new friends here and got busier with school work. He and Touya would be around too and Yukito would make sure that they made regular time for her. Maybe he should talk to Touya about setting up a regular night to have dinner together.
“I am glad they aren’t bad or scary dreams. Sakura-chan deserves good dreams” he said, “Maybe try to sleep earlier if they are making you tired” he suggested, though it was probably the vividness of them which tired her out.
The could be stressful and confusing, but not bad or scary. At least not to Sakura. So instead she nodded as she contemplated the suggestion. “Nn! Maybe that will help.” Maybe. Doubtfully. But it didn’t hurt to try at any rate, assuming she’d be able to fall asleep early anyway.
