Who: Capable and Audrey When: Early January Where: Much Ado About Books What: Catching up Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Capable had been thinking about her future since she had rang in the New Year. Her teachers were pushing her to look at college courses but Capable liked working at the bookstore, she enjoyed reading to the children and Myrcella and Tessa were such lovely people to work with. Was it so bad to just want to continue as she was?
She was brought from her musings when the bell rang signalling somebody entering the shop, looking up she smiled, “Good Morning Audrey” she greeted, knowing the woman from the combined events the bakery and the bookshop ran, “How are you?”
Audrey was carrying a box of pastries from her shop along with a tray of hot lattes. She pushed in from the cold (even though the snow was gone, it was still pretty chilly out there!) and broke into a smile at the sight of Capable behind the register. “Hi, honey.” She greeted the younger girl, coming further into the shop. “I’m good! Just thought I’d stop by with a treat. How are you?”
Capable rushed to the door to help her when she realised the other woman was laden down, “Oh that’s so kind of you. I’m very well thank you. Did you have a nice New Year?” she asked as she cleared a space on the desk for Audrey.
“It was really lovely,” Audrey said, grinning brightly for the younger woman. “Really calm. We let Ben stay up to watch the ball drop at nine, but then it was seriously bedtime. For all of us.” Audrey set the pastries and coffee down on the desk, then turned to give Capable a hug. “Happy New Year!”
“Oh I watched that too. I’d never seen it before” Capable said and she’d stayed up until midnight to see the New Year in. She had positive hopes for 2016. “Happy New Year” Capable returned the hug, “It’s very good to see you”
“Oh yeah?” Audrey pulled back out of the hug. “It’s good to see you, too! I’m glad you enjoyed the ball drop. I got all curious and went to the Wikipedia entry about it and read about all the different incarnations of the ball over the last hundred years. It was really interesting.” She pulled a coffee out of the carrier and offered it to Capable. “What did you think of your first ball drop? Were you up at midnight or did you watch it early like I did?”
“I still forget to use the internet for things like that” Capable admitted, she was slowly getting used to it but since it was fairly new to her it did slip her mind. “Thank you” she said as she took the drink, it smelt amazing and warmed her hands nicely, though it wasn’t particularly cold anymore. Especially not in the shop. “I watched it early but I did stay up too. And I liked it, I’m not sure I’d actually want to be there though it looks too crowded”
Audrey gave a little chuckle. “I think I go overboard sometimes with how much I use my phone for things. I spend a lot of time clicking on the screen, looking up random stuff. When I was nursing Ben, I would spend hours a day on social media sites and watching random things on the television, so I had to have an outlet somewhere! It’s become practically an extension of my hand.” She started to sort out the pastries and things, making sure there were even portions for Capable and all the other employees. “I haven’t made it to midnight on New Year’s Eve the last two years,” mostly because of Ben, “but I found I haven’t missed it, either. We just have our midnight kiss at nine, then get to bed early.”
Capable smiled, “Maybe I will be like that too eventually. I do like watching shows on television, a friend recommended Netflix and there’s so much on there” she grinned. “That’s really sweet, honestly I don’t think you miss much. It was nice to do but nothing really special. I don’t have anybody to kiss” she laughed.
“Oh man, Netflix is amazing.” Audrey gave a little laugh, sneaking a piece of one of the scones to eat herself. All this delivering and socializing made her hungry! She was grinning, too, glad to have a few minutes to relax and chat. “Aww. I’m sorry. I don’t really have any advice for finding someone to kiss at midnight. I sort of fell in love unexpectedly with my best friend.”
“It really is. I never knew there was much out there” she said with a grin, it was entertaining and educational to an extent.
“Oh no, please don’t worry about me. I don’t mind being on my own, I think I need to work out me before I find another person. I have good friends and that fills my life and heart”
“That’s good!” Audrey said, smiling a bit more brightly. She normally felt awkward in those ‘love advice’ situations. Audrey didn’t know the last thing about finding love--it’d simply fallen on her doorstep. And thank goodness it had. Her life was more full with Merlin in it than it’d ever felt before.
“So, what would you recommend?” Audrey asked, turning to look around the bookstore. “I’d like to have something I can read on my breaks in the bakery.”
Capable wasn’t the sort to worry about whether or not she would find anybody, she had more in her life now than ever before and if this was it she would be content.
“Do you prefer certain genres?” Capable asked, “An idea of your likes and dislikes would be good” she didn’t want to recommend something her friend would find awful.
“I like a lot of things. Something fiction, most likely? When I read I like to escape--I know it’s crazy, considering my Dreams, but I do enjoy reading about fantastic places and people.” Audrey said, beaming. “Do you have popular fiction titles available?”
“We do. I like reading similar things actually” Capable admitted, “Follow me, I think you’ll like our display. We have recommendations from other readers as well as us”
