Anna sent her friend Myrcella a text message so the pair could meet up for coffee. It was 2016, after all, a new year and a fresh start. Anna wanted to hear what her friend’s New Year’s Resolutions were, and see how everything was going with Myrcella and Jeremy. Though Anna didn’t have a whole lot to share of her own life, she wanted to catch up on her friend’s.
She arrived a little early, grabbed her mocha, then settled in the corner to read and wait.
Myrcella was already finding 2016 to be a busy one though in the best way possible. She enjoyed being busy which was a good thing as she currently had new beauty modules to start, her regular shifts at the bookstore, personal beauty appointments to start building her business and of course a house to keep in order. Thankfully she had Jeremy and Irisa to help with the house though. But she was determined to keep up with her friends as well.
Entering the cafe she spotted Anna and waved before grabbing herself a drink and joining her, “Hello Anna” she greeted her friend with a hug, “How are you?”
“Hey!” Anna brightened at the sight of Myrcella, and returned the hug thankfully. She settled back down into the chair, closing the book and turning her full attention to her friend. “Good! Getting ready for the semester. I’m taking eight classes! Gonna be a rough one.” She nodded, grinning. “How are you?? It feels like it’s been forever!”
“Eight? My goodness you are going to be busy” Myrcella said, “I don’t blame you for getting started. I’m good thanks, it does feel that way doesn’t it. Did you have a good Christmas? Jeremy and I ended up not being able to fly over to stay with my parents but we skyped them on the day”
“It was really good! I’m so sorry you guys got stuck here.” Anna said, going from happy to empathetic in one swoop. She frowned a little and reached over to touch her friend’s arm. “But hey, I’m glad you were still able to Skype with them. It’s good to spend some time with family over the holidays. And now that the snow’s gone… maybe you guys can take a trip?”
“Oh that's okay, Jeremy is my family too now and it was nice being together” Myrcella promised, “My mum wants to buy us tickets to go over there at Easter but I said I need to see if our schedules work” It would be nice but Myrcella needed to start building up her client base ready for her business launch. “Did you spend the day with your sister?” she asked before sipping her drink.
“I’m glad you guys were able to make the best of the holiday, even under unfortunate circumstances,” Anna said, smiling warmly. “Easter would be a lovely time to visit! I’m sure you guys can make something work.” She nodded, brightening a little. “I did! I had a nice time with Elsa and Kate. And I introduced them to Ezra.” The guy she’d been seeing. Myrcella probably knew about that by now? Anna still wasn’t sure what was going on between her and Ezra, but it was more than just… a couple of dates.
“I hope so too” It had been a long time since she’d seen her family and she missed her baby brother a lot. “I’m so glad, and did they like him?” she asked, Myrcella knew about Ezra though she hadn’t yet met him. “And how is it going? It must be getting serious if you introduced him to your sister” she observed.
“I think so?” Anna said, then crinkled up her forehead a little. Things with Ezra were a little weird. She’d told him she loved him, and he didn’t say it back. She’d fled his apartment, and gone home to cry. She’d wished she didn’t love him, didn’t think she loved him, and a giant weight was lifted from her shoulders. And now that weight was back, and things felt a little strange. Was she supposed to be in love with him, or not?
“I don’t know. I’m very fond of him, and we get along really well. I just… I’m not sure if he’s as into it as I am? Or vice versa? It’s not like my last relationship.” Anna’s only other real relationship had gone quite a bit differently than her time with Ezra.
Myrcella tilted her head as she listened to Anna describe her feelings, “You do sound confused, maybe just give it a little time. Let yourself be relaxed and happy with him and if the feelings are deeper maybe then they’ll reveal themselves to you” She wasn’t entirely sure since she had realised fairly quickly that she was in love with Jeremy and he was with her.
Anna nodded. “That’s what I’m trying for. I mean, I don’t… I’m not that girl from my Dreams, you know? I’m not the one who falls in love with a stranger over a three hour date. I don’t want to be her. I want to be sensible, to take my time, to have fun and not get bogged down by big, powerful emotions.” She explained, twisting her fingers together. “But I have these big, powerful emotions all the time.”
“It can be hard” Myrcella said, “You’re an expressive person Anna and that isn’t a bad thing, perhaps these big powerful emotions are just part of who you are. And you’ll learn how to slow them down and interpret them differently as you get older”
Anna took a deep breath, nodded and smiled. She was thankful to have Myrcella as a friend. Sometimes it was a kind breath of realistic air that Anna needed to hear. “Thanks.” She said. “....sometimes I think I try to grow up too fast.”
“I think we all do sometimes” Myrcella said, “But I wouldn’t worry about it too much. You’ll find your way Anna I know it” Her friend had a kind and sweet heart and eventually she would learn when to risk it and when not to.
There wasn’t much to say in response to that, so Anna simply leaned forward to wrap her arms around her friend in a big hug. “Can you believe I’m taking eight classes this year?” She asked, finally releasing Myrcella from the hug.
“I can but only because I know how crazy you are” Myrcella teased her friend, “I’ve been working on a business class and sorting out leaflets for everything I offer. It’s daunting but we’ll both do well. We aren’t the sort to give up after all”
“You’re going to do amazing. And I know where I’ll go when I finish college and have no job.” Anna said. “I still have no idea what I want to do. Probably curate some private art collections or galleries or something.” She shrugged. “I’m so glad that things are going well for you, though,” Anna smiled warmly.
“I’m sure you’ll work it out Anna, you’re going to be amazing” Myrcella said, because she knew her friend would find her calling once she got settled into her course and interests. “Then we’ll both be successful and independent women” she grinned.
