Irisa tugged uncomfortably at the red and white striped pinafore she was wearing. Eyeing herself dubiously in the mirror one last time, she steeled herself for Alucard’s mocking when she stepped out of the changing room. She took a deep breath, shut her bag in the locker provided and headed out into the corridor where Aucard was waiting.
Alucard couldn’t help the smirk that appeared when he saw Irisa, “You look lovely” he said though his tone betrayed his amusement. He was proud of her however, for giving this a go and he hoped it helped her find a path that was good for her. “Shall we go?” he asked.
Irisa frowned in displeasure at him, knowing he was thinking about teasing her really. “Hmph,” she huffed, giving him an amused but knowing look as she walked up to him. “If you ever mention a word of this…” she pretended to threaten, suppressing a smile as she did.
“Mention it to who precisely...” he asked before quickly pulling out his phone to snap a photo, “Ah of course, Integra will want to see. Thank you for the timely reminder” he smirked.
Irisa couldn’t help but roll her eyes at that, head dropping back to look skyward in search of some answer from above. Dropping her head forward, she shook it and sighed heavily. “Whatever, I make this outfit look better than you ever could,” she lifted her head and brushed down her uniform, feigning a pride in her appearance.
“I wouldn’t be too sure of that” Alucard told her with a teasing smirk, she did of course but teasing her was far too easy and almost habit now. “Come on let us go find Nina and I can hand you over to her care”
Irisa couldn’t help but laugh at that, shaking her head at her mentor’s apparent comfort with all things. She had a feeling that Integra had something to do with that. “Ok, let’s go,” she replied, straightening her shoulders and setting off. “And hope I don’t kill anyone,” she muttered, just loud enough for him to hear it.
Integra had a lot to do with that and Alucard would have been proud that she realised that, her training was coming along in more ways than one. “Don’t worry, should that happen I know many people who can help us” his tone not quite giving away whether or not he was joking.
“Why am I not surprised,” Irisa grinned back as she replied. They were approaching a nurse’s station where a lady seemed to be waiting for something. Them, Irisa assumed. “Is that her?” she asked him quietly, feeling nervous again. It wasn’t about meeting her, it was about whether she would be any good at what she was about to try.
“That’s her” he confirmed as he followed Irisa’s gaze, “Nina” he called out with a wave and the nurse turned to wave back and move towards them.
“Alucard, good to see you” she said before holding her hand out, “You must be Irisa” she directed at the young girl.
Irisa schooled her face to not show any of her nerves as she reached out a hand to shake Nina’s. “Hi, um,” she looked up at Alucard, as if seeking unconscious validation of what to do next. “You’re Nina, right? I uh...I hope I’m dressed ok to help out,” she asked, brushing her hands down her pinafore again.
Alucard nodded in encouragement seeing Irisa’s nervousness, he rarely saw this side of her and it was rather fascinating for him to witness.
“I’m Nina” she confirmed, “And that is perfectly fine, though jeans would have been okay. We don’t have a uniform as such at the moment, it’s still being decided on” The girl did look sweet though and Nina knew the patients would find it nice.
Irisa cast a quick glare up at Alucard, mentally blaming him for her wearing the pinafore. “I’ll bear that in mind next time. Thanks for letting me help out, I’m sure having someone hang on your coat-tails all day isn’t an idea of fun,” she remarked.
Alucard gave a small shrug but his wide smile gave him away, he hadn’t been able to help winding her up just a little.
“Oh please don’t worry about that, I am happy to help. After all if I can help you discover this is what you want to do with your life then it’s all worth it anyway” Nina said, “You can keep me on my toes”
Irisa smiled, having heard that phrase for most of her life. She seemed to have that kind of personality apparently as she was sure she’d heard that from Alucard and Integra. “Ok, well uh...where should we start?” Irisa asked, looking up at Nina.
