Rose couldn’t wait for Caroline to come over and try on some dresses. She actually hadn’t worn any of them since they’d come through the dreams, though she had admired them, and made sure to treat them with care. She had lain out the nine dresses that the dreams had given her on her bed, thinking how strange it was that she had memories - some good, some bad, some a mix of both - of each of the dresses despite the fact that she had never actually worn any of them.
Caroline was beyond excited to see Rose’s dream dresses. She wished she got something cool like that from her dreams. The closest she got was her daylight ring or her Miss Mystic Falls sash. She had been hoping she would receive the dresses Klaus had given her because they were gorgeous but it hadn't happened. But hey, Rose was going to let Caroline try on hers so she really couldn't complain. In fact she was one lucky girl. Arriving at Rose’s place she knocked on the door anxiously waiting for her to answer.
Caroline had come over before, though since then Rose had been trying to break the habit of inviting people in without thinking about it. Just because Caroline was a good vampire didn’t mean all vampires were, and Rose wasn’t keen on the idea of accidentally inviting one of those ones in.
“Caroline! I’m so glad you’re here,” Rose said, smiling when she saw her friend on the other side of the door. “I’ve got the dresses all laid out in the bedroom. Would you like a drink?” Rose might not have been twenty-one yet, but she did have a few beers in the fridge, as well as some hard liquor and mix.
“Me too!” Caroline practically squealed with excitement as she entered the apartment. It was good that Rose was being cautious about letting people in. There was no reason to worry about Caroline. She was about as good as vampires got. She would have to tell Rose about the other vampires she knew of one of these days. Not that any of them were harmful but still she liked to keep her friends apprised of these things. And of course the Mystic Falls vampires probably weren’t the only vampires running around. This was Orange County after all.
“I can’t wait to see them,” she added her eyes shining. “Sure! I’ll have whatever you’re having.” Because she didn’t know what all Rose had and it was also way more fun to drink with someone than alone. That was just lame.
“Vodka and juice then?” Rose asked, making her way to the kitchen. One couldn't really go wrong with a nice vodka and juice, and it seemed like a nice easy way to start off the end of finals festivities.
“Perfect!” She followed Rose into the kitchen to help out with the drinks. Plus it would just be rude to go look at the dresses without Rose and Caroline had manners thank you very much. “I’m can’t believe we are done with school for three whole weeks. It’s a little weird to not have to worry about classes,” she commented while Rose got everything out.
Rose busied herself in the kitchen pouring the drinks, and then turned to hand Caroline hers. “It’s such a relief,” Rose said. “It will be nice just to have a couple of weeks where all I have to worry about is work.” And the dreams, of course. Maybe she’d be lucky and in the ship would finally sink during the break. At this point, all she wanted was for the dreams to end. It was close, she knew, and she strongly suspected that she would freeze in those waters alongside Jack.
“How do you think your finals went?”
“Thanks,” Caroline said accepting the drink and taking a sip. “Right? Although I’m missing a week of work. Try not to get too lonely there without me,” she teased. In general her shifts went by fast but they went by even faster whenever she worked with Rose.
“Uh, not so great,” she admitted. Caroline had missed a lot of classes towards the beginning of the semester thanks to her having no humanity and then Stefan going all Ripper. But other than that she had barely even studied. She just didn’t have time. She wasn’t too worried though, she was going to be around for eternity after all. There was plenty of time for her to go to college. “What about you?” she was sure Rose did a lot better than she did.
Drink in hand she headed with Rose to her bedroom beyond ready to see the dresses.
“I don’t know how I’ll ever survive,” Rose teased, though she would miss Caroline while she was gone. She enjoyed working with everyone at Baxter’s, but she and Caroline had become fast friends and she always had more fun with the other girl.
Rose frowned a little while she thought of her finals. “I think I did okay,” Rose said. “It’s so hard to concentrate on school with everything else that’s going on.” Cal’s visit hadn’t helped much, and her dreams helped even less. Working two jobs while going to school wasn’t as easy as she had anticipated either. “But Anna and I managed to do a bit of studying beforehand, so I hope that helps.” She was hoping she’d get at least 90s in all of her classes, though she was worried some of her grades might have been as low as 85.
Rose gave a slight flourish, waving slightly toward the dresses that laid on her bed. “Ta da.”
Caroline would be perfectly happy with an 85. But she had a feeling her grades were more in the 75 range. Whatever. As long as she passed. “I’m sure it did,” Caroline encouraged. “Anna studies like all the time.” She really didn’t know how her friend or anyone could take that much studying. But onto happier thoughts and into Rose’s room to see the dresses.
“Oh my god!” Caroline exclaimed when she spotted them on the bed. “They are gorgeous. Seriously you are so lucky. As if getting a Picasso wasn’t enough,” she was teasing of course. But seriously the dresses were just wow. And honestly Caroline was much more interested in the dresses than the Picasso above Rose’s bed anyway. Sure that was pretty awesome but art wasn’t really her thing. Led to bad memories both dream and real life.
“I’ve certainly acquired some great dream gifts,” Rose said. “On that front at least, they’ve been kind to me.” The dreams themselves, well, some of them were completely wonderful, and others she would have been much happier not having. Her dresses were some of her favourites from the dreams though, even if she hadn’t had cause much to wear them yet. Tonight would change that though.
“I wish the hat I had worn with this one,” she gestured to the white pinstripe dress, “had come through though. It was huge. The brim was wider than my shoulders.”
“It’s still gorgeous without the hat,” Caroline commented walking over to it and feeling the fabric with her free hand, careful not to spill her drink. She was sure the hat added something to it and she had to admit she would have liked to see it but just the dress was amazing enough on it’s own. “Can I try it on?”
“Please do!” Rose said. “I really think it would look lovely on you.” Her favourite out of all of them was the red and black dress she had worn for dinner when Jack had joined in first class. Later, Jack had taken her to a ‘real party’ down in third class. That was the one that she’d choose to wear.
“Thanks!” Caroline said setting her drink down. She began to remove the clothes she was wearing. She had never been modest all those years of changing in locker rooms for cheer. “Well what do you think?” she asked modeling the dress once she had put it on, giving Rose a little twirl and everything.
As Caroline got changed into her dress, Rose quickly slipped into the dress she had picked out. Rose had been worried that the dresses wouldn’t fit Caroline properly - they had been tailor-made for Rose, and she was a touch on the short side. But she was delighted to see that she had been correct, and she and Caroline did seem to have fairly similar measurements. “I’m so happy it fits!” she exclaimed. “It looks absolutely beautiful on you. Very fashionable.”
Caroline had no doubt that the dress fit Rose perfectly. It did come from her dreams after all. But it fit Caroline well enough. “Thanks,” she said again with a large smile on her face. “You look amazing,” she added admiring the red and black dress rose had picked out. “Have I mentioned how lucky you are?” Probably like a zillion times now but seriously these clothes were gorgeous. She twirled around again loving the way the fabric felt on her skin. “Let’s go show them off!”
