It had been an eventful night to say the least. After the disaster of a holiday party at for Hanna’s father’s work they had gone back to Caleb’s place and just watched Disney movies. He would have done anything to cheer Hanna up after everything that happened and Disney movies seemed to work. They both went to sleep somewhat happy.
Unfortunately for Caleb, dreams happened. It started off okay enough with he and Hanna secretly dating trying to hide their relationship from this new A. That was actually somewhat sexy in a way. Although he would prefer to not have to hide their relationship at least they had gotten back together.
Then it was time for a confrontation with A. All the girls (except for Emily) were going to meet A at Ali’s grave. There was no way in hell Caleb was letting Hanna do something that dangerous on her own. Despite Hanna’s wishes he brought a gun to the confrontation and listened to the exchange, however A didn’t show up and it turned out Emily was at a lighthouse. Since there were two in the area he parted ways from the rest of the girls each checking out a different place.
When Caleb arrived he found Nate on the ground bleeding and stabbed and Emily with a knife in her had. Setting his gun down he went to comfort Emily when Nate who wasn’t quite dead yet reached for it and shot him.
Caleb felt it. Not just in his dreams but in real life too. He opened his eyes, gasping in pain. He couldn’t really say much else. His hand reached for his side where the bullet had struck him, he could feel the blood gushing out. “Fuck!” Caleb cried out in pain.
There had been a lot that had gone on the night before and it had left Hanna emotionally exhausted. Disney movies had definitely helped and just being there with Caleb. She had also admitted to herself that she loved him, that she didn’t have to be afraid of what that would mean and it was with that thought and making the decision to tell him in that morning that she had finally fallen asleep.
Thankfully without dreams.
Or she could wake up to Caleb crying out in pain. Even though it had startled her awake, she was alert because that sort of reaction was enough to pierce through the haze of sleep.
“Caleb, what is it?” Leaning over, she turned on the light before looking back at her boyfriend. Who was bleeding. “Ohmigod!” And cue the panicking because what should she do. 911. “I need to call the ambulance!” Because that was what people did when someone was shot. Jumping out of bed, getting caught in the sheets in the process, Hanna grabbed her phone and kept misdialing before finally making a connection.
“My boyfriend’s been shot, help!” Not that she knew how to explain it. Nope. She was in full on panic mode and once the address was given and advice, Hanna all but threw the phone to the side and went to try and help Caleb.
“No no no...this is not happening!”
Caleb just laid there because he couldn’t exactly do much else at the moment. He heard Hanna panicking and wanted to comfort her. Tell her it was going to be okay. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t even sit up. It hurt too much.
What the fuck dreams?
“Hanna…” he began trying to speak before his voice drifted off and his eyes closed.
“No no no, you are not allowed to do that! I’m supposed to tell you I love you, not this!” Because of course it would come out in her panic. But Caleb seeming to fade right in front of her? No. It didn’t bode well for Hanna or her anxiousness at all. So she just grabbed his hand and tried to keep him focused and awake and oh god where were they!?
“Stay with me, please.”
Hanna didn’t know how long she waited with Caleb, everything was just off but finally the paramedics were there and taking him into an ambulance and one was trying to get her to calm down and tell them what happened which really wasn’t working because Hanna was so far from calm and had no idea and it wasn’t like she could say he was shot from a dream and why was this happening?!
Caleb was still somewhat aware of everything that was going on. He heard Hanna say she loved him and his mouth twitched in an attempt to smile. He gently squeezed her hand. He wasn’t going to die. No way was he leaving her. Besides who even died from a gunshot wound on their side? How pathetic would that be? But man it hurt. It was hard to focus on anything other than the pain.
And then he was being taken away in an ambulance. Off to the hospital they went with Hanna still freaking out. Again Caleb wanted to comfort her but he couldn’t. After what felt like forever but was only actually a few minutes they were at the hospital. Caleb was being rushed into surgery and Hanna told to wait. He never hated the dreams more than at this moment.
Waiting was not a thing Hanna was okay with, but she did just that. Or more she paced in agitation before pulling out her phone and fumbling to put up a message to Caleb’s friends on the network to let them know. Not that she had any information. She just needed to do something and not feel so hopeless.
So far it wasn’t helping but all she could do was wait. So finally she just fell onto a waiting chair and held her head in her hands, shaking. He had to be okay, he just had to be.
