Where: Ezra’s office
When: Late November
Status: Complete!
Rating: Low
Conner wasn’t entirely sure he was doing his schedule thing right, and he had to turn it in for final consideration soon, so he sought out a teacher whose class was fun, and who seemed to be nice. He hoped so, anyway. Conner was just trying to get all of this college stuff settled and in line, and not feel like he was going crazy.
Crazier.
He smiled as he made his way through the snow, shaking his head. Wearing a long sleeve shirt and jeans, and regular shoes, he had gotten a lot of looks today. He was glad he had never been particularly sensitive to snow, because it was getting colder and colder. “The last thing I need is to die of frostbite before actually even starting classes.”
He shook his head again, knocking on the teacher’s door, and hoping that the teacher was in.
Ezra was in his office preparing for finals. He didn’t really have all that much to do. He didn’t have to study like his students did. Most of his work came later. After finals happened when he had to turn in grades. He hadn’t assigned too much work for the end of the semester wanting to let his students focus on their final essays and exams for his classes instead. So he was spending his time working on a study guide that was optional but if his students chose to fill it out it would help them on their final exam.
“Come in,” Ezra called looking up from his work to see a student he vaguely recognized. Although he was fairly certain the guy wasn’t on his roster, that was okay with him though he didn’t mind students auditing his classes.
Conner smiled as he stepped in. “Hello, Professor? My name is Conner Kent and I’ve been auditing a couple of your classes this semester. And I was wondering if it would be okay with you if I signed up for them next semester. “ Whether or not he knew it, Professor Fitz’s classes were quite popular. And that meant it was harder to get into them.
“I thought I recognized you,” Ezra replied returning the student’s smile with one of his own. “Of course that’s okay with me.” The more students the better. Especially ones that took the time to audit his class ahead of time and actually seemed to enjoy it. Ezra loved passionate students. “Which class are you interested in taking?” since he taught both English and creative writing classes.
Conner smiled wider. “Awesome! Thanks! I’ve liked your classes so far.”
He flicked open his list, then nodded. “Both English and Creative Writing, please. Both sound interesting to me. And I like using writing and exploring English as ways of exploring me.”
“Are you sure you want two classes?” he was joking of course. It wasn’t that long ago that Ezra had been a college student himself. He wasn’t one of those professors that took himself too seriously, preferring to joke around with his students from time to time. “I have been known to assign quite the workload,” that part was actually true.
Conner grinned. “I want as many as I can get.” He nodded to the workload comment. “I’m ready to work, and hard. I want to learn.” He wanted to know what he was doing, damn it. Who he was, not who he had been. And maybe he could find that in writing and reading.
“Great,” Ezra replied. “I look forward to seeing you next semester. Is there anything else I can help you with?”
Conner grinned. “Thank you!” He stuck out his hand to the professor before beating a hasty retreat. “Not a thing. Just wanted to check in with you. I’ll see you then sir.”
He raised a hand to say goodbye with as he reached for the door.
“Oh, er, I suppose, do you have a recommended reading list?”
“My pleasure,” Ezra replied shaking the guy’s hand before watching him head out. But then Conner turned back around. “I do actually,” he replied opening up a drawer to his desk. It wasn’t so much a recommended reading list as it was the reading he would have to do next semester anyway but if Conner wanted to get ahead on the reading Ezra certainly wouldn’t stop him.
“Thanks!” Conner took the paper. “Okay. See you next Semester, sir.” And he darted out before he made any more of a fool of himself.
