Lorna was waiting at That Place, reading a book while she waited for Nathan. Though he was just a guy she’d hired to find her father she worried about him. He was a good man, from what she’d seen, and he didn’t deserve whatever had happened to him.
Nathan smiled as he stepped into the room, taking off his hat and smiling as he approached the table. He wore sunglasses that didn’t quite hide the fact he was wearing an eyepatch over one eye.
“Evening Lorna.” He was growing less and less self-conscious about the wound, and was working on making sure he could handle himself this way. It was a work in progress.
Lorna’s eyebrows raised when she saw the eyepatch, but she didn’t do much more than that. “Good evening Mr. Summers. It’s good to see you again.” She reached down between her legs and drew out a paper grocery bag. “I made these for you. I know it’s not much but I wanted to do something nice for you.” There was a pan of brownies in the bag.
“A pleasure to see you again, too, Miss Dane.” He nodded to her as he stepped to the table and sat down. He peeked into the bag, then chuckled. “Thanks. I don’t think I’ve had brownies in years. I appreciate it.” And he did. He wasn’t a family type of guy, because he mainly lived a violent life, but he did appreciate people treating him nice, and making him food.
“How’re you doing?”
“I’m doing well. How are you doing? That seems like the most important question.” Lorna said, giving Nate a serious look. “What happened?”
Nathan chuckled. “I’m better.” He quirked an eyebrow. “I took a friend to an underground fight. A man was harassing and threatening a woman who was with him. I took objection and he freaked out, and I managed to handle him, but the woman freaked, and there was a broken glass, and my eye got in the way of it.”
He spoke it out and shook his head. “Was a damn fool thing for me to do. But it’s done. Now the hard part is getting used to it, relearning how to do things.”
Lorna smiled sympathetically. “It wasn’t foolish, it was noble. Well, maybe the two aren’t mutually exclusive but I still think you probably did the right thing.” She patted his hand and waved down a waitress to take their drink order. “Let me buy our drinks.”
Nathan shrugged, but grinned. “Thank you. If you like. I never say no to a beautiful woman buying me drinks.” As she waved down a waitress, he spoke on, taking out a small folder. “Just in case you want to move forward while I am healing up, I’ve put all I know and all the rumors and files in this folder, and at the back are some jackets on other private detectives and hunters who are out in this area.”
Lorna took the envelope and nodded, sighing softly. “I may just give up. If you’d been hurt looking for my father I could never forgive myself. If he doesn’t know about me yet then perhaps it’s best that I forget about meeting him.”
“Why?” He winced and shook his head. “I wasn’t hurt looking for your father, and this had nothing to do with you.” He smiled gently. “Don’t give up on this is it means something to you.” Then he shrugged. “If it doesn’t then let it go. You’re a smart, strong woman. No father or mother will ever make or break your life.”
“I know you weren’t. It’s just. . . there is a potential for harm turning over rocks that clearly don’t want to budge. I don’t want that and I’d rather just let it go. I’ve done a lot without him and you’re right that I don’t need him.” Lorna shrugged.
Nathan nodded to her. It made sense to him. “So, what are you doing these days?” He was curious. She was a self-aware, smart, and strong woman, and she seemed to have a lot going for her.
“Working for Stark, sleeping with another detective now and then. I made a hot redhead go to the beach with me, so that was fun.” Lorna said with a giggle.
Nathan laughed. “Sounds like living the dream.” He shook his head. Lorna was good people. And hot, too. “As long as you’re having fun, that is all that matters.” He chuckled. “Have you ever wrestled?”
Lorna laughed at his question, leaning forward so he could see down her shirt. “Why do you ask, Mr. Summers? You wouldn’t want to live the dream with me, would you?”
Nathan laughed. “Well, I wouldn’t mind that, not at all. I was asking because I bet you could have fun and make money if you wanted wrestling in a few of these clubs. Nothing untoward happens, unless the participants want it to, but a woman as beautiful as you could have fun, there.”
Then he downed his drink and smirked. “As to the other, I’m willing to bet sex is pretty damn fine with you.”
“I’m a lover, not a fighter.” Which was true. She didn’t want to get her butt kicked. “As for the sex, I’ve yet to have any complaints.” She reached across the table and delicately stroked Nathan’s thumb. “The question is whether you’re up for it or not, really.”
Nathan chuckled. “I’m not broken down there. Just a little bit of vision issues. I might have to feel my way, a bit.” He lifted her hand and kissed it, his smirk frank and assessing. “The only real question is how long you last, and how sore you want to be tomorrow…”
“I enjoy a challenge,” Lorna said with a smirk. “If I get my poor little ass beaten in the course of events I won’t be too unhappy come tomorrow.” She thought that sounded like a best case scenario, actually.
Nathan smirked. “Well, your ass might just get that, if you want. I do happen to think you have a very nice one. But I’ll need a much closer and more thorough exploration to be sure.” He was enjoying this for sure, now, and was getting harder by the moment. Glancing around and seeing that where they were sitting as a bit to one side, he smirked. “Care to catch a feel of what will be getting into you, so to speak?”
Lorna’s eyebrow rose but she nodded, scooting closer to Nathan. Her hand rested on his thigh and slowly crept between his legs. She was feeling quite warm and excited herself, so feeling his cock only made her want him more. “Is that all you?” She asked, rubbing her palm against him delicately to see if she could make him moan.
Nathan smirked and he didn’t beat around the bush. One hand stroked her back, near the top of her ass as she stroked him, and he stirred to even harder and larger size. “Yes, and not completely hard, yet.” he whimpered softly, then removed her hand. “Not that I mind, mind you, but I like this place, and getting banned would suck.” He smirked. “My place?”
Lorna smirked and nodded, rising to her feet. She put down more money than their drinks were worth and headed toward the exit. “I’ll meet you there. Don’t take too long or start without me.”
“Sounds good to me.” He handed her a card with his address, and smirked as he watched her go. This was going to be a very nice night.
He headed for his car, grinning.
