Who: Touya and Yukito When: Mid-December Where: Touya's dorm room What: Helping out Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Of course Touya loved his father and Sakura, but the whole point of college was a chance to go off on his own with Yuki and try new stuff. He couldn’t help but be a little flustered by the appearance of the two. Yet he didn’t say much. Touya didn’t use words needlessly. After his text to Yuki he went back to his book.
It was test week for Touya and his roommate was being obnoxiously loud. The guy was up at all hours of the night and had people over at the early hours of the morning. It didn’t seem like there was even a second of silence for Touya to hear his own thoughts, and it was driving him a little bit mad. It was nearing 10pm and the other boy still hadn’t shut his trap about some girl he was seeing.
“Adam...I have a lot of work here to do.” He tried to be subtle as he crouched over his desk in attempt to get away from the word vomit of the other boy. He kept going, he even went as far as to lean on Touya’s desk causing a cup of coffee to spill out over a paper he was working on. “‘Ch. Give it a rest already!” He snapped causing the guy to look a bit embarrassed and step away as Touya stood to clean the mess. The roommate seemed to have enough grace to look ashamed and stepped away into his room for the time being to leave Touya to clean up a mess he hadn’t caused. “...Could have at least gotten me a towel.” He muttered, pushing some dark hair from his eyes as he went into the kitchen to get one himself.
Yukito’s own roommate was causing him headaches too though ironically it was through his lack of loudness. Since he’d arrived Yukito had seen him only twice and each time he’d just received a grunt before the boy had put on his headphones and gone out. It was like not having a roommate at all and that was not good for Yukito. His natural friendliness meant he wanted to be around people.
So he took himself off to visit Touya, he’d really been hoping they might have been put in a room together since they had come from the same school but that hadn’t happened. Yukito had to admit he’d also been hoping that being away from home and family would mean he and Touya could try new things, and if one of those things happened to be kissing well Yukito would be just fine with that. His crush on his best friend was still going strong and part of Yukito couldn’t ever remember it not being there. Still nothing was likely to happen so he needed to stop thinking about it. Raising his hand he knocked on the door and waited.
Touya had no idea of his friends affection beyond platonic friendship. He was a little bit dense when it came to love, it wasn’t a thing that came easy to him to recognize. He’d only had one other woman in his life as a high schooler and she’d up and moved away before their relationship could really get off the ground. Touya hadn’t seen it coming either. None of it, the relationship, or her leaving. Everyone else did though, even his father had been aware of Touya’s attraction to his English teacher.
Touya had a roll of towels in his arm when the knock at the door came. Who could it be at this hour? He glanced at his watch and pulled it open. “Yuki?” He stepped aside to let him in, though that curious look remained.
“Touya” he greeted with a smile as he entered his friends room, “It’s not too late is it? I was on my own and got bored so I thought I’d come and keep you company. Are you busy?” he asked glancing at the towels. Honestly Yukito hadn’t really thought about much other than seeing his best friend, looking at his own watch he realised it was rather late for a social call and he looked a little sheepish.
The dark haired teen shrugged. “Not really, gonna be up all night doing this again anyway.” He sighed as he picked up the paper, it wasn’t even typed yet-these were just initial notes and thoughts and it was sopping with coffee. So much for easy A. The entire thing lasted all of two seconds in his hands before it literally fell apart. Touya rubbed at his face in a bit of an exasperated motion. “Damn guy is an excited puppy.” Yes, that suited him. An untrained dog that just talked and talked without a care for others, and got in their face with so much enthusiasm for someone like Touya it was overwhelming.
“Oh no, what happened?” he asked before Touya mentioned the ‘damn guy’ and Yukito knew it was the roommate. “I’m sorry Touya, maybe I can help?” he suggested, “I’ve only seen my roommate twice. It’s very quiet at mine, I bet you’d like it much more” he said on a sigh, Yukito would like it a lot more too.
“He got excited over some girl and wouldn’t shut up.” The dark haired teen wasn’t the type to care about that sort of thing, yet many seemed to want to confide in him their girlfriend woes. “You don’t have to do anything, don’t you have class in the morning too?” Touya raised an eyebrow, his roommate had seen Yuki once or twice and seemed to like him but Yuki was just like that too, likeable. Touya was popular enough, but still maintained an air of mystery. He didn’t speak much or share much when it came to his life, most of the things even Yuki had found out had been out of persistance. Touya was a bit more guarded than most. “If you really want to you can keep me awake?” He was a bit tired, but he only had a few days to finish this particular term paper.
“I have class but all my work is done so I can stay up and help you” Yukito told him, and even if he hadn’t he would have helped Touya out anyway. Yukito liked to help people when and where he could and Touya was at the top of his list of people to help. Touya was at the top of his list when it came to most things. “I can definitely keep you awake” he promised.
“Maybe you should just get some sleep instead.” He waved his hand a bit dismissively as he realized how much effort staying awake all night was. He dried up the rest of his coffee spill and tossed the dirty towels in the trash along with the ruined paper. A small frown crept into his face as he sat in the chair and pointed at the couch near by. “Unless you want to go home you can sit there. I doubt we’ll be bothered again tonight.” Touya rubbed his eyes a bit tiredly as he’d already been working on the paper a lot of the evening. A small laptop came out of the desk drawer he opened. “At least this wasn’t out.”
“I can stay with you” Yukito insisted, sitting on the sofa to prove he was serious about staying. He didn’t need sleep as much as he needed to support his best friend. “I’m glad your laptop was spared, that would have been a complete disaster. Is there anything I can read or write to help you?” he offered.
“No kidding. I can't exactly afford to run out and buy a new one on the spot..” Touya wondered if the idiot had realized what could have happened -probably not. He shook his head and waved a dismissive hand. “I mostly remember what I lost. “ Touya had an amazing knack for remembering things most people found difficult. “Maybe just more coffee? That was the last of the pot.”
Yukito was very glad Touya’s idiot roommate hadn’t done anything more serious even if it was a pain for Touya to have to remember everything and re-write it all. At the mention of coffee he stood from the sofa, “I can make that” he said with a nod and moved towards the little kitchen to do just that. He wondered if Touya had any biscuits to go with it, that was one thing which was always in Yukito’s little cupboard in his own kitchen.
Touya did miss home sometimes, he didn’t want to admit it since he was supposed to be a college guy now. His father had been so proud of him getting accepted, Touya would never say anything to disappoint him. Fujitaka was someone Touya looked up to and respected, the last thing he wanted was to disappoint his father in any way. “Thanks..” But really other than that tonight was probably going to be pretty boring for Yuki, Touya felt a bit bad about that. He’d make it up to him somehow. There was a box of biscuits left that the idiot-as he would forever be dubbed hadn’t polished off. “Feel free to get something to eat in there for yourself if you see anything you want.” Touya added before settling in to work, it would be long past two A.M. before he looked up again.
Yukito had always been treated like a part of Touya’s family, his father was very kind and Sakura always referred to him as her brother. For someone who only had elderly grandparents when he was growing up it had been a welcome change for him. He’d found the biscuits and apart from refreshing Touya’s cup with coffee a couple of times he had settled himself on the sofa. When Touya finally finished his work he’d find Yukito dozing, his resolve to stay awake for his friend having waned around one A.M.
Touya stretched a bit before glancing over at Yuki and shaking his head some. He thought it was going to be dull for him, he should have insisted Yuki go to his room. He knew even if he tried Yuki probably still would have insisted on staying with him. Touya got up and saved his paper before heading into his room and getting a blanket. He had a nice fleece one he draped over his friend before sitting with him carefully. It was late, or early depending on how you looked at it and Touya was tired too. His eyes kept shutting on their own volition. He leaned against Yuki, Yuki was one of the few he trusted enough to be this close with. Yuki had seen him at his best and his worst and still stayed by him. Touya wasn’t a very affectionate person with anyone else.
Yukito didn’t stir much when Touya draped the blanket over him but when he sat down close Yuki instinctively snuggled closer to him breathing his name in his sleep haze before falling into a deeper sleep once again. While he trusted more easily than Touya there were very few people Yukito relaxed to this level with, Touya was top of that list.
Touya was a little more than surprised as he heard his name, what on earth was Yuki dreaming about? In any case out of pure reaction he put an arm around him. Might as well let him be comfortable as possible after saying up all night to keep him company. Touya stuck his feet on the coffee table as he got a bit more comfortable and settled against Yuki.
