WHO:Yuffie & Rapunzel WHEN: Early December WHERE: Department store WHAT: Yuffie is decoration shopping; Rapunzel is in the crossfire. Random meeting RATING/WARNINGS: Low/None STATUS: Complete
Since this was officially her first Christmas where she was actually able to work on things, Yuffie had taken the leap to get some extra cash from her dad to actually decorate her apartment. It wasn’t big enough to really go crazy like she probably would’ve but it was big enough that she could totally get a nice tree and some ornaments and lights.
Yuffie was determined to have a nice, bright, colourful Christmas.
One of the major problems was navigating the stores during the December period, and Yuffie wasn’t always great at that at the best of times. “Oops.” The cart she had was just about teeming with things -tree and ornaments, Yuffie just getting ready to get her lights. “I’m sorry.” Bumping into anyone was not something she was meaning to do.
Rapunzel was most likely going to go home for Christmas, but she wanted to decorate her apartment a little bit. It could be fun to have a few Christmas lights around the house. She even decided on a small Christmas tree that could be put on her counter (fake of course) and she was allowing herself to get caught up in the holiday spirit.
Weaving through the crowds wasn’t as easy as she hoped it would be and she wasn’t surprised when she saw two carts collide in front of her. She rushed forward to help steady some of the items in the older lady’s cart so it wouldn’t go crashing to the ground. “Oh goodness, let me help ya out with that,” she commented as she helped adjust the items in the lady’s cart and then turned towards the younger girl, “Are you alright too?”
Other than the little shock in her wrist from the collision, Yuffie was perfectly fine, even if her cart driving abilities were terrible. “I’m super.” She still managed a massive grin though, hoping the lady wouldn’t say anything mean as she just shuffled her cart away, muttering a little. Okay, so Yuffie absolutely needed to pay way more attention to everything.
“Thanks,” since older lady bump companion just left -rude, really, but old people were- Yuffie kept smiling at the blond. “Thanks for that, I’d hate if I ended up causing a total store meltdown with free roaming Christmas ornaments!” Baubles all over the floor, that was a comic tragedy waiting to happen.
“You’re welcome. I could sense that the old lady may have started yelling if I didn’t intervene. And free roaming Christmas ornaments is most certainly something I want to prevent. Can you even imagine the sight of everyone falling?” there was a mischievous grin on her face due to that mental image, but Rapunzel wasn’t the type to really help assist in making it a reality however.
“But, I’m very glad that you’re fine. The worst thing about being here close to the holidays is having to maneuver around everyone,” she wasn’t going to add in the part about how people just don’t pay attention either because she wasn’t quite sure whose fault it was in the cart crash. But she was going to be nice to this girl and certainly not that old lady, “I’m Rapunzel, by the way.”
Okay, that image, along with the comedy music that Yuffie’s mental images provided, that was just ridiculously amusing, and the smirk probably didn’t help Yuffie’s attempt to maintain that it was a bad thing -probably a bad thing afterward, when everyone was all injured and bumped and sore and Yuffie was getting yelled at.
“Urgh, I know! I came in for one thing! And I got sidetracked, and now I have a whole bunch of stuff and these carts are stupid, I mean, who even invented them? You should need a license to drive them!” And sure, Yuffie was the bumper and not the bumpee, but she totally didn’t think it was entirely her fault when people made carts with wonky wheels that didn’t want to go where they were meant to go!
“I’m Yuffie, terribly timing at shopping and drawn to all the shiny things.” Seriously, she came in just for something to hang on her front door.
“Maybe you should go for the tiny child carts. I mean, it might hurt your back in the long run, but at least you run a smaller risk of injuring someone with it,” Rapunzel pointed out with a laugh, “And maybe licenses would be a good idea, but I’m still skeptical about a lot of people on the road when I’m driving my own car.”
“Nice to meet you and don’t worry, shiny things are the best things. At least it looks like you’re ready to decorate,” Rapunzel shifted the small tree to her other arm and looked into Yuffie’s cart, “I’m not even sure if I want to get ornaments for this guy or not. I don’t have ton of room, so I just want something small.”
Yuffie was almost small enough that the kiddie carts wouldn’t be horrific for her, just utterly embarrassing -she blamed her Pops for her height, it was rude to blame the dead after all- but there was a little bit of good advice in there, because Rapunzel was right, she at least wouldn’t attack people at random.
There was also the fact that Yuffie couldn’t actually drive either.
“Oh, yeah. Well, it’s my first time, you know, on my own.” Not her first ever Christmas, she didn’t belong to like a non-Christmas cult or something, not that there was anything wrong with not celebrating Christmas, where the heck was she going with this train of thought? Thank God she wasn’t just speaking out loud! “But yeah, I guess I might get a little over enthusiastic.” Her tree was barely three feet tall -and it’d be a little taller than that with a star on top, but that was probably still too small for the number of ornaments she had piled into her cart.
“You know, my biggest dilemma was star or angel, yeah? Like, the angels are pretty important, right? Cause of that whole ‘they came from above’ and stuff. But like… the star was why people were able to figure out where Baby Messiah boy was, like olden days GPS, right? So which is more important? Who should get to be the one I pick? Angel or star?!” And Yuffie definitely put too much thought into that.
Rapunzel listened patiently and with a smile on her face. Yuffie definitely had some spirit to her and Rapunzel was greatly amused by her train of thought. It almost seemed like something that she would do when trying to explain herself and she fully understood where the girl was coming from. “I’m kind of on my own as well for this Christmas. I’m probably going to go home to Oregon to see my mom, but I still feel like I need to decorate my apartment or something.”
“And that is a big dilemma there. I wonder if there’s anything that combines the two of them? Maybe a star with an angel painted on it? Or an angel with a star hanging above it. Personally, I’ve always liked an angel, but that’s for larger trees. A star on top may work just as nicely for a small tree. It’s totally up to you and doesn’t really have to represent anything unless you want it to. I mean, you could put a cute crown or something on top,” she pointed out with a smile.
“Oh my god do you think so!?” A crown would be totally awesome because she was a princess and that would be the best thing ever, “I could decorate it however I want. It’s my tree.” Rapunzel was right, it didn’t really matter what one she picked, so long as she was happy with it.
“Thanks! That’s totally great advice. I should find a little crown I can put on it.”
“Exactly,” Rapunzel agreed excitedly, “It is totally your tree and you get to do whatever you want with it. And if someone disagrees then you can kick them in the knee or something. I wish you luck on your crown hunt.” That would be an extremely adorable tree if she did manage to find a crown to put on top of it. She was going with tiny stars for her tree at her house.
Yes, this was totally her tree and she could totally decorate it however she wanted. Awesome! “Thanks so much, and for your help, that was really nice of you.” Yuffie liked nice people, nice people were good. “So, um… I’m gonna go hunting for crowns, and… maybe I’ll see you around?” Sure, Orange County was a decent size, but she did keep running into people. “But yeah, have a super Christmas, okay?”
“Sounds good to me. I wish you luck on your crown hunting. And I am usually wandering around these areas. If you’re on Valarnet then we may run into each other,” she had no issue giving that network out to people especially as a way to keep in touch with them, “You have a fabulous Christmas as well. Nice to run into you.” Rapunzel gave a little wave with a smile as she made her way to the register.
