Dorian’s latest dreams had been all about Vanessa. He’d taken Vanessa out again and then things had started to progress to what he had assumed would be a very eventful evening, but right in the middle of things she’d begun to act strange and run out on him. He had no idea what had happened and had woken up not long after she’d run out so he was left with questions both in the dreams and in real life. All of these questions eventually led him to constantly think about Vanessa; not that he hadn’t had her on his mind a lot lately regardless.
Having not seen Vanessa for a few weeks, Dorian had decided to invite her over for dinner and perhaps get answers to his questions as well. When the night came that he’d invited her over, he’d had dinner made by his chef and the dining room, which he rarely used on his own was set up with candles and china.
Vanessa had also been experiencing the dreams Dorian had recently had, though luckily - or not from her point of view - Vanessa knew why she had run out and seriously hoped nothing like that would actually happen here. Especially since she was very attracted to Dorian.
Having accepted his invitation for dinner she was very much looking forward to seeing him again, and a little nervous she had to admit. Arriving at his place she smoothed her dress and checked her hair before ringing the bell.
Normally Dorian didn’t answer his own door, but in this case he wanted to be the first to greet Vanessa. Reaching the door, he pulled it open, a smile upon his lips when he saw her, “Good evening, Miss Ives.” He moved aside to allow her inside, “Please come in.” Seeing her in person was ten times better than in the dreams and he was glad that she had accepted his invitation.
Vanessa smiled in response, “Good evening” she replied, as she entered his home, “Thank you for your invitation, I have to admit you have been on my mind recently” she told him honestly. After all there was no use denying it, though it was only partly because of her dreams. Dorian would be someone to remember no matter what.
“Is that so?” Dorian smiled at the thought of Vanessa thinking about him, “I suppose this is the part where I tell you that I’ve been thinking about you as well.” There was no point in playing coy or pretending that he hadn’t been thinking about her too. “Why don’t we go into the dining room and we can talk more about our mutual thoughts about each other.” He gestured towards the hallway that led to the dining room.
Hearing that made Vanessa rather pleased, they both knew there was a mutual attraction - had been even before the dreams firmly began and it was reassuring to know they were both on the same page so to speak. “Of course” she smiled walking with him to the dining room and taking the seat he indicated, “You truly do have a lovely home Dorian” His taste was wonderful and everything suited him perfectly.
Once Vanessa was seated, Dorian picked up the bottle of wine from the table and poured them both a glass, “Thank you. Perhaps I’ll give you a more in depth tour than last time after dinner.” Once the glasses were filled, he sat down across from her, “Which should be ready soon.” He’d checked in with his cook just before Vanessa arrived and knew that it would only be a few more minutes before dinner was served. “So, you said you’ve been thinking about me recently?” He smirked as he picked up his wine glass and took a sip.
Vanessa looked forward to that, what she’d seen last time had been remarkable and she was going to enjoy another tour. “Is that really such a surprise?” Vanessa asked with a smile over her wine glass, “You know you’re an intriguing man. It cannot be too unusual to hear you are playing on a woman’s mind”
“No, I suppose it’s not that unusual.” He smirked and took another sip of his wine before placing the wine glass back down on the table, “Tell me, have you been thinking about me of your own volition or have you been having more dreams?” In his case, both had been happening. Even when he wasn’t dreaming about Vanessa he’d been thinking about her or maybe he’d dreamt about her again because he’d been thinking about her so often? There was no way to know for sure how this all worked.
“Both” she told him slowly, “Perhaps a little more since my most recent dream. It was rather...intimate. And I believe it may be my time to apologise this time” she added, there didn’t seem much point in beating around the bush.
Dorian smiled at Vanessa’s admission, but before he could respond dinner was served. “I hope you enjoy this. I wasn’t entirely sure what you liked.” Favorite foods had never really come up in any of their conversations either in or outside the dreams.
He waited until they were alone again before he continued with the conversation they had been having, “Would this be the one where you left suddenly just before we had sex?” There had been quite a lot of sex in his dreams so far and he had to admit that he had been a little disappointed upon waking up after Vanessa’s departure in the dream. He was very confused, but also very disappointed.
“It looks incredible” she told him as the food was set down in front of them, and it truly did the smells were divine.
“That would be the one” Vanessa confirmed with a blush, “And I am sorry my dream self left like that” she added, she could tell he wasn’t sure why it had happened.
“Well it would appear that we’re even now.” Dorian smirked at her before picking up his wine glass and taking a sip, “We’ve both abandoned the other at one time or another.” He set his glass down and began cutting his food, “I’ll admit, I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t extremely curious as to what happened.”
“Apparently so, though I do wish it had been different” Vanessa said, picking up her cutlery and cutting her own food, “I’m afraid my dream self let herself go a little too much and as a result she opened herself up to a demon possession” she explained as simply as possible.
Dorian’s brows rose at that revelation, “A demon? So you’re telling me that I almost had sex with someone possessed by a demon?” Now that was something he’d never heard before, but considering his dreams, it was entirely possible, “That would have been a first. In fact, I think having a woman run out on me in the middle of sex was a first as well.” He smirked at Vanessa as he ate.
“Almost yes” Vanessa said, “I’m still unsure on exactly who or what it is inside me but I do know Sir Malcolm and the others are trying to save me” Her dream had stopped before a conclusion had been reached. “I’m sure it is, I cannot imagine anybody doing such a thing” she replied taking another sip of her wine.
“Well I hope they figure it out. It would be a shame if you stayed possessed,” Vanessa’s sudden exit in the dreams now made more sense, but now Dorian was more concerned about her then he was before, “I suppose I owe you an explanation now as to why I left you at the theater.” He was curious as to what she would think about the reason he’d left her.
“You and I both, though I believe they do. Victor is ahead of me and has mentioned a couple of things which lead me to believe I am well” Vanessa told him before nodding, “If you would like to share then I would be happy to hear it” There was something at the back of her mind telling her she already knew but it was like an eel of a thought and slipped away when she tried to focus on it.
“I’m glad to hear it.” Dorian had to admit, he was slightly intrigued at the thought of Vanessa possessed and what exactly had possessed her, but in the long run, he preferred her not possessed. “I met Ethan there. He was upset. I took him to a gambling ring then I brought him home.” If one knew anything about Dorian it was safe to assume what had happened next.
“The lure of an upset American was too much to resist” Vanessa said somewhat amused in truth, “I trust you were able to help him feel better?” though she didn’t really need to ask, she knew enough of Dorian to be able to picture what happened next rather clearly. It wasn’t an unpleasant image in the least.
Dorian chuckled and nodded, “It would appear that way. And I do think I succeeded in making him feel better. At least I hope I did.” Dorian had recently spoken to Ethan about that particular dream and he was amused that the other man had dreamt about it before they had even met, “Did you know that Mr. Chandler dreamt that long before we met.”
“I’m almost positive you did” Vanessa said, mostly because she couldn’t see how it could be any other way. “Did he? I didn’t know that, how very interesting. I have to admit having the dreams out of order would not sit well with me. They are sometimes confusing enough”
“Well, I don’t know if they were out of order or not.” Dorian said as he finished his dinner, “I have the feeling he’d been dreaming for some time before I started. So I’m glad that you and I appear to be about the same point.” It made things easier and he didn’t have to constantly wonder if she knew more than he did. It was clear, from recent conversations, that Victor appeared to be ahead of him, but the other man didn’t appear to like talking about the dreams.
“Oh I see” she nodded, Victor was the same in that he was ahead of her which sometimes left her feeling off kilter, “I am as well. It is nice to be able to talk about things without the sense that the other person knows more” she smiled, Victor was very sweet about it though and tried not to say too much.
Dorian smiled and nodded, “Exactly.” He glanced over at Vanessa’s plate then got to his feet and headed around to her side of the table, holding his hand out, “If you’re finished eating, we can take that tour now.” He knew that he didn’t need to try and impress Vanessa with the size of the house, but he wanted to show off a little bit.
Vanessa removed the napkin from her lap and placed it next to her plate before taking Dorian’s hand, “I think that sounds lovely” and while she was already impressed by him she had to admit she rather liked it when he showed off.
“Of course, you have to promise you won’t run away before the tour ends.” Dorian smiled as he pulled her to her feet. He was teasing of course; he didn’t actually think that Vanessa was going to run away, but he also hadn’t thought that she would in the dreams either.
Laughing Vanessa smiled at him as she squeezed his hand, “I promise not to run away” she told him, “You can keep hold of me just in case though” she added before he began showing her his home.
