Who: Sarah Manning, Felix Dawkins and Kira Manning (NPC) What: Decorating Where: Their place When: Early December Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Sarah hated to admit it but she was actually really looking forward to decorating their home with Kira and Felix. She wasn’t the most Christmassy of people but there was a buzz she got from seeing her daughter’s excitement and she ended up enjoying it more than she expected to every year.
“Okay so you want the tree to go here monkey?” she said before she and Felix put it down and they began to decorate it.
Felix hadn’t really decorated for Christmas over the last few years since it was just him, but now that he, Sarah and Kira were living together, he had to decorate. They had to make this Christmas perfect for Kira after all. So the three of them had gone out to buy some Christmas decorations before heading to a lot to get a tree. Of course they’d let Kira pick out the tree then they had transported it back to the apartment and were currently waiting for Kira to decide where, in the living room, to put it. “Or do you want it by the window?” Truthfully, it would look good where Sarah was suggesting, but Felix was amused by Sarah moving around the living room with the large Christmas tree.
Sarah shot daggers at Felix with her eyes when he made the suggestion but turned a smile to her daughter who had nodded at her Uncle’s suggestion, “By the window” she said pointing from her position on the sofa as she watched the tree being dragged around the room. “Okay by the window” she agreed, whispering to her brother, “You owe me so many drinks for that helpful suggestion”
“You’ll get your drinks.” Felix laughed and moved ahead of Sarah, with the tree stand and set it in front of the window so that Sarah could put the tree in it. “Hold it still and I’ll screw it in.”
“Not the first time you’ve said that” she told him with a wink before doing as instructed and telling Kira to get the decorations they’d brought.
“Oi! That’s a horrible thing to say.” Felix smacked Sarah in the shin since that was all he could reach of her as he turned the screws into the base of the tree so that it wouldn’t fall over, “And something I would never say.” Once the tree was steady Felix stood up, adjusted his sweater, which yes, he had gotten from the women’s section, then went to get a vase of water to fill the tree base with as Kira came back with the bag of decorations they’d bought.
“Mummy, did you make sure to tell Santa that we moved?” She asked as she set the bag down near the tree.
Sarah chuckled, “No, maybe something you’ve heard though” she teased before he disappeared to get the water for the tree.
“Of course monkey. He knows exactly where we are, I promise” Sarah said moving to kneel in front of her daughter and wrap her arms around her, “He’s going to leave the best presents for you”
“You’re horrible. You’re going to be a horrible influence for your daughter.” Felix smirked and went to bring the vase back into the kitchen then came back and plugged in his ipod which he’d uploaded some Christmas music to earlier in the day. If they were going to be decorating they needed the right music to do it to.
Kira looked reassured at that and smiled, “Oh good. I was worried that he wouldn’t know we moved.”
Felix smirked as he watched his sister and niece and went to sit on the couch, “Don’t worry, Monkey, even if your mum had forgotten to tell him, Mrs. S would have let him know when he showed up at the house.”
Sarah grinned, “Or the best influence” she replied, Kira was a smart kid and with Sarah and Felix around she would most likely end up having a wicked sense of humour too. She just hoped it wouldn’t get her into trouble. Sarah wasn’t great at censoring herself even now.
“You know Mrs S would definitely make sure he got here for you” Sarah said with a grin before she added, “So where do we start?”
“Hmmm” Kira considered the tree, “The star needs to go on last” she decided pointing to the top of the tree.
“Believe what you like.” Felix enjoyed messing with Sarah, which was easier to do when they were together, which was just one more reason he was glad that Sarah had moved to California. “Of course the star goes on last. Can’t do things out of order.” He reached into the bag for a box of lights, “I think the lights should go on first.”
Sarah, ever the grown up, stuck her tongue out at him while Kira considered his suggestion, “I think that’s good” she told her uncle, “Then the tinsel and then the decorations” she decided, looking at them expectantly. Apparently Kira’s role was more supervisory.
“And what are you going to do while we do all this decorating?” Felix asked, quirking a brow as he opened the box of lights and began untangling the string. They were brand new so it was much easier than if they had been packed away, “We’ll have to get some type of bin or something to store all this stuff away.”
“Make sure you do it right of course and then I get to put the star on top” Kira told him with a grin.
“Oh yeah? I think this little monkey should help” Sarah said moving to tickle her until she squealed with laughter and gave in, “Okay mum, okay”
Looking at Felix she nodded, “I’ll pick something up” she told him, “We have time until it comes down again”
Felix got to his feet, laughing as Sarah tickled Kira, “Yeah, if we do all the work then Santa is only going to leave us presents. So you’d better help.” He ruffled Kira’s hair as he passed them and began to wrap the string of lights around the tree.
Kira giggled at them both before standing up to move to the tree and help her Uncle and mum decorate the tree.
“Pass it round Kira” she said handing her the lights carefully to pass around the tree to Felix, with the three of them working on it she didn’t think it would actually take too long.
The lights didn’t take long at all with the three of them doing it and soon the tree was sparkling with multi-colored lights. “Looks good, if I do say so myself.” Felix smiled over at Sarah and Kira, “How about we make some hot chocolate then finish decorating.” Felix’s would be a little more adult with some added alcohol, but that wasn’t anything new.
“Good plan Uncle Felix” Kira said already moving to the kitchen, “And maybe biscuits too so we have energy”
Sarah laughed, “Yeah good plan Uncle Felix” she said grinning at him as she wrapped her arm around his, “Thanks for this Fe. You’re the best” she told him before they entered the kitchen for hot chocolate and biscuits.
