Sharon was the first in the break room. She’d left Veronica at her desk, gone to the restroom, then headed to the break room to grab a cup of tea and some little snack thing. They often had little snack things in the break room, like granola bars and fruit. Apples. Whatever. Sharon had some serious munchies.
“I can’t believe all our Halloween candy is gone already,” she mentioned as soon as Veronica came into the room.
“Someone has quite the sweet tooth,” Veronica replied with a smirk as she got herself a cup of coffee. And by someone she meant both of them. Normally Veronica didn’t eat a ton of candy, she preferred greasy foods, but when it was right in front of her she couldn’t resist. Who could really?
Hey, it was the month after Halloween. That was the best time to eat candy. “I think that someone is actually both of us.” Sharon said, smirking softly. “But seriously, can we just have Halloween every month?” It’d give her an excuse to eat tons of candy and be fat and jolly. Like Santa.
“That’s just called candy,” Veronica replied with a smirk sitting down on the couch, cup of coffee in hand. “Now we have to get ready for Thanksgiving and the turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and rolls…” Veronica’s voice trailed off she could really go on forever. “And then there’s Christmas with the Christmas cookies,” and no she would not try baking any with Cindy again this year. “This time of year is just a good time for food.”
“Oh man... “ Sharon sighed wistfully at that thought. She was planning on eating herself stupid at Thanksgiving. It was going to be nice to have so many family and friends around for the holiday, especially because she wasn’t planning on flying home to see her mother and father this year. They were planning on coming out to spend Christmas with Sharon, Veronica and Viv, though.
“Maybe it’s time for us to find a bigger place,” Sharon said, thoughtfully.
Well now that Sharon mentioned it, their apartment was getting a little cramped. And there were only so many nights she could spend at Logan’s. It would be nice to have a bigger place, but Veronica was still broke. A lot of it thanks to her mother. “Probably,” she agreed with a sigh. “We can start looking, hopefully we can find something bigger that I can actually afford.”
“We might have to do some commuting, or something. I wouldn’t be opposed. It might be a good idea to start thinking about… are we planning on staying there for years, or is this next place going to be a temporary thing? I mean… I have to think about Viv. And God, this sounds absolutely insane to say, but… she’s gonna need to be in a good school zone eventually.” Sharon babbled, a little surprised at the words coming out of her mouth.
School zone? Wow that was intense. Veronica never thought she would ever have to think about that. “Uhhhh,” she replied thinking about it for a moment. “I have no clue?” She hadn’t exactly thought about years in the future or what would happen when Viv grew up. “Are you thinking of getting a house?”
“I don’t know. Maybe? Maybe it’s time to start looking for a little house.” Sharon thought aloud. Then she sighed. “I don’t know. Maybe not. Aramis has a house. And his house is in a great school zone. Maybe we’ll just use that one for Viv’s schooling.”
Veronica couldn’t believe they were actually having this discussion. But she supposed that was what happened when you had a kid? Or a best friend with a kid. When the hell did they get so grown up? “That sounds like a talk you and Aramis should have. I’ll live wherever,” she shrugged not exactly ready to think so far into the future. “Come on let’s get back to work.”
