Lexi could not have been more excited that she got to spend Stefan’s birthday with him this year. It had been awhile since they’d gotten to do more than simply Skype for his birthday, so Lexi was planning on going all out and that started with breakfast. Sure, as vampires they didn’t have to eat food, but Lexi wanted to still keep up the illusion that they were human, so she was currently in the kitchen, making pancakes and bacon. On the table were two place settings, one for her and one for Stefan, and a card. She was planning on giving him his actual present later.
And if Caroline and Anna got up while she and Stefan were eating, Lexi had made enough for them to have some too.
This was Stefan’s first birthday back since he’d enlisted, so spending it with Lexi and then Caroline was the best way he could think of to spend it. His girls. His blonde girls. Funny how similar they were. Maybe Stefan had a type?
Stefan came wandering out of his bedroom to the delicious smells of maple and bacon, his nose in the air and his feet shuffling along the floor. He was still in his pajamas. Hey, it was his birthday. He could do that, right?
“Hey good lookin’.” He said, entering the kitchen to lean over and press a kiss into Lexi’s hair. “Whatcha got cookin?”
Lexi laughed, smiling, “Birthday pancakes and bacon.” She leaned back a little and playfully hit Stefan in the butt with the spatula, “Go sit down. Guess which place setting is yours.” It was obviously the one with the car, so she didn’t think she had to tell him which one it was. Removing the last of the pancakes from the griddle, Lexi moved to the coffee maker and poured two mugs, one for herself and one for Stefan.
Stefan didn’t have to be told twice. This was something he and Lexi did; their thing, really. They celebrated birthdays together, doing the things that made them the most happy. A home-cooked meal and a giant mug of coffee were an amazing way to start the day. Stefan moved to the table and sat down. “Ooh, is this for me?”
“Unless there’s another Stefan coming over who has a birthday today.” Lexi smirked as she set the two mugs of coffee on the table then went back for the plate of pancakes and sausages. She’d already put syrup, butter, powdered sugar and Reddi Wip on the table earlier when she’d set their plates and she placed the plate of pancakes in the middle as well as the bacon. “You have no idea how much I’ve missed celebrating birthdays together.” She said as she sat down across from her best friend.
Stefan frowned. “You’re not cheating on me with another Stefan, are you?” He asked, playfully. Then he reached for his coffee and lifted it to sip. The breakfast looked absolutely amazing. He leaned over and inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of coffee and pancakes, syrup and powdered sugar… then he broke into a bright grin as his eyes came up to Lexi. “Me, too. Cheers.” He lifted his mug to her.
“Nope. No other Stefans. I don’t think I’ve ever even met anyone else named Stefan.” It wasn’t really a name that many people gave their kids these days. She lifted her mug up as well, smiling, “Cheers.” She took a sip of her coffee then placed it down on the table, “So, what other birthday plans do you have today?”
“Well, I don’t know anyone else named Lexi, either, so…” He smirked, then sipped again before setting his mug down. “Caroline and I are going back to the boardwalk. I have to win my own Grizzly.” He lifted his silverware to start in on his food. “And Damon’s doing something at his club. I dunno what. I probably won't stay that long.” Clubbing wasn’t exactly Stefan’s scene.
“Going out with Caroline, huh? You two have gotten pretty close.” Lexi waggled her brows a little as she too picked up her utensils. In the dreams even as a ghost, Lexi was a hardcore shipper for Stefan and Caroline and even went as far as telling Stefan. She thought that the other blond vampire was good for Stefan, both in and out of the dreams. “Don’t worry, no one wants to stay around Damon for long.”
“No no, she’s just a friend.” A friend who made out with him when she had her humanity off, then compelled him to forget about it. The only reason he remembered was because he became a vampire. But that was neither here nor there. “Don’t try to set me up with Caroline,” he said, smirking. “Anyone but Caroline.”
“Oh come on. Caroline is gorgeous and nice and funny and cares more about her friends than anyone I’ve ever met.” Lexi took a bite of bacon and chewed and swallowed before she spoke again, “You guys would be perfect together.” Either Elena or Caroline. Lexi thought that Stefan would be perfect with either of them, if she were completely honest.
Stefan shook his head. “No, Caroline’s a great friend, but we’re better as friends.” Stefan said, enjoying his breakfast. “Wait, why are we talking about my love life, again? We should be talking about birthday plans or something--anything--else.” It wasn’t that he was embarrassed about his lack of a love life. He’d only just returned not too long ago from overseas.
“Cause I apparently can’t get a boyfriend, so I need to live vicariously through my friends and right now all my friends are also single.” Lexi quirked a brow at Stefan, smirking, “But alright, we won’t talk about your love life. Instead, what do you want to do after breakfast? Got any immediate birthday plans or do you have time to spend with your bestie?”
“Just spending time with you.” Stefan was more than willing to spend time with Lexi. He had plans to hang out with Caroline later, and Damon even later… “If that’s all right?” Stefan asked before taking another bite.
“That’s definitely alright with me.” It had been so long since they had gotten to spend birthdays together that Lexi didn’t even mind if all they did was hang around the living room and watch movies until Stefan had to get ready to go out, “Have anything in particular that you want to do?” She had gotten a cake already that they could have later on so now it was just up to Stefan what he wanted to do.
“Movies? We should watch some movies. And go to the beach.” Stefan said, giving her a smile. He leaned back in his chair and picked up his coffee mug to wrap both hands around it lovingly. Today was going to be a fantastic day.
