Who: Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) and Loki (...Loki.)
When: Recently
Where: Cafe
What: Dream Discussions
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete

Kate finally understood what Loki was talking about. She started having these weird Dreams (“weird” being sort of a given, lately, considering the rest of her Dreams). But she wanted to talk to him about them, as he was far ahead of her when it came to this sort of thing. She had questions. Sort of. She both wanted to know the answers and didn’t at the same time.

So she’d asked him to meet her for coffee. It was a longshot that he’d even show, but if he did they could chat. And if not, then she could have a cup of coffee, anyway. So she headed to her favorite shop, trying not to think too much about her Dreams last night while she waited for him to show.

The invitation had caught Loki by surprise. The few interactions he’d had with Miss Bishop had been hard to gauge, and, really, it wasn’t like anyone really liked him in the dreams. They put up with him, of course. But suspicions were always on him. It really was the curiosity that made him agree.

He found her pretty quickly when he walked inside. Loki gave her a brief wave and collected a coffee of his own before sitting down across from her, giving her a look that suggested he was seeking out any tricks.

“Hello.”

Oh, God. He was right, or someone was right or something. Whoever said people were the same as in the Dreams--did anyone say that?--was right. The guy in front of her was the same. He was the same as the guy she’d known in her Dreams. Holy shit.

“Hi.” Kate responded, a little dumbly. “Wow. You’re the same.”

Kate had gone a bit stupid, apparently.

Loki squinted. “Sorry - Should I … Be different?” When they’d met, he’d been a teenager version of himself, right? “Am I missing something?”

“No, I just… I hadn’t put two and two together. The Dreams, whatever.” Kate said, shaking her head. “...You were in my Dreams last night. God, that does sound like a come-on, doesn’t it? I don’t mean it that way. Honest.”
“Oh!” Loki perked up right away. A smile broke across his face and he leaned across the table, hands folded in front of him. “It’s really about time, you know. I was starting to think somehow I’d deviated away - which I suppose in our dream world isn’t entirely unheard of. But. Huzzah!”

“Well, I guess I’ve finally caught up with you,” Kate admitted, grinning a little sheepishly, a little conspiratorially. “But I haven’t… you know… reached the end of our quest, or whatever. So no spoilers.” She warned him almost playfully. “...now I finally get how you knew me but I had no idea who you were.”

“Believe me,” Loki said, with some amount of exasperation, “I don’t think I’m anywhere near the end of it. As with most of my hairbrained schemes, I think it’s only just starting.” But it was going to be nice to have someone to talk to about them, someone who understood them. Back when he’d had his first dreams, all the people that shared them were his enemies, and it had been a frustrating place to be in. At least now he almost had a friend.
